The Finding of the Scroll

Gorgon Skilgannon tells the following story of how he found the Scroll:

The life of an adventurer isn't that bad really. Yes they call us outlaws. We "outlaws" are the only ones keeping the monsters and undead from organizing into killer sized groups. Anyways it was a normal day out, well for me at least. I'd just searched out and destroyed three groups of these stupid undead. I was getting a little tired. Suddenly I stumbled upon a fourth group. The first thing I noticed was this strange larger creature that actually seemed to be leading them. It was an undead champion in a way (or so I believe). Well I got to work chopping up the puny ones. By the time I got round to the champion I was tired as hell. But this creature had almost killed a fellow monster hunter. I couldn't let it go. So I fought. The short of it is I killed it. Found me some gold too! And then I found a leather wrap. It had a scroll in it. It radiated magic! I had found what seemed to be a magical scroll of good and evil. I have yet to unlock its uses. But we shall soon see. My name is Gorgon Skilgannon. And I know I will not let my family down!

The Scroll is Sold

Shortly after being unearthed, Gorgon sold the Scroll to Dimian Indirik, ArchPriest of the Kingdom of Alluran. Dimian is currently conducting a detailed analysis of the scroll. He hopes that the Scroll will offer insights into the nature of the god Alluran. Through the greater understanding of both good and evil, he hopes to be better able to understand the balance and dispense fair justice, as demanded by Alluran.

Analysis of the Scroll

Excerpts from the notes of Dimian Indirik:

"The Scroll of Good and Evil is an exceptionally intriguing item. When I obtained the Scroll it was encased in a hard leather tube. The tube itself was dyed in an odd pattern of black and white. When I removed the Scroll from the case it appeared to be completely black. Blank and featureless. Unrolling the Scroll revealed that the opposite side of the parchment was pure white, with gold lettering in a script that I could not read. The letters were flowing and ornate. The script was neat and evenly spaced, as if the author had used a ruler of some sort to measure the lines at a precise interval and guide his hand on each individual line, so it was perfectly straight.
Further examination revealed that the black side of the Scroll did indeed have writing of its own, only it was written in a black ink. The only possible way to read the black ink on the black page was to hold the Scroll at an angle just so, and read the letters by the way they reflected the light of the lamp. The script on the black side was also unfamiliar to me. It is a very blocky language. The letters are coarse and angular. I get an uneasy feeling when reading it, as if I was being watched. After a few days of study I have been able to make out only a few words of the ancient text. That little bit is enough to make me shudder at the thought what the remainder of the text must contain."

The Scroll is Lost

Dimian Indirik's study of the Scroll of Good and Evil was disrupted for a long period of time following his election as the King of the Kingdom of Alluran. When he finally had time to return to his studies, he found that the Scroll had disappeared. Extensive searches of the Royal Palace revealed no hints as to its whereabouts. It is uncertain if this was the work of a thief, or the result of some mysterious property of the scroll itself. Perhaps one day the scroll will resurface in the treasure horde of another undead champion, claimed by another heroic adventurer.

The Scroll Rediscovered

Valtar Hendrix could not say he was afraid of the monsters he stalked, but in his line of work fear was nothing less then failure. So it was that he made his way along the animal trails through the unfamiliar forest. The fighting was fierce and more then once Valtar thought his life was done as the beasts circled around him. It was one such moment when the largest of the beasts, certainly the leader of this pack, entered into the fray. As the fight continued he had no time to notice as the other beasts began to slink away into the wild, more and more as it looked like their leader would fall. And fall he did.

Valtar was considered no noble, despite his father being King in the colonies. Yet he knew the clothes scattered among the bones before him to be that of nobility from Alluran. Very little remained but the clothes and a couriers leather scroll case.

Rumors had reached him, as it has others, of the description of this scroll and its case. He knew what it was soon after its discovery. But to fear the magic within was not in him....at least not until days later.

As the days went by, he began to notice how the thing worked his emotions...one day a saint and good hearted, and the next wishing simply to kill for the joy of it. It was not long before he began seeking a way to rid himself of his burden (at least on the good days).

Two months later the Scroll of Good and Evil was spotted in possession of a noble of Riombara during a battle against the daimon invaders.
