It had been an unusually busy time. After spending days in the east of the Libero Empire, finding few beasts, and having time to improve his armour and adventuring gear, Parve Waroe Family had headed west towards the more familiar west area.

He had spent days in the mountains - Mt. Black Nastrond had been crawling with monsters, such that had he not been keen for the challenge, he'd have had little choice but to fight them anyway, so numerous were they. He'd fought his way through a number of them before finding a particularly large and ugly monster, but his best attempts at killing it had been too little, and he'd ended up wounded as he fought to get away and find shelter. For a day or more he lay wounded before feeling fit enough to have another try. Again he found the big monster, and again he was wounded trying to attack it. It seemed particularly strong. By the time his wounds had healed, the monsters had mobilised such a huge army that the Libero army had had to come in and deal with them.

At that time, Parve had moved north to Torrents Breath, happy to see the back of the mountain area in which he'd found so much pain. He felt happier in the fields of Torrents Breath, and the better air helped him feel fitter than before, despite the nagging throb of his wounds. One day after arriving in Torrents Breath, he found another huge number of monsters. He wondered whether to fight them again, but was drawn by the desire to prove himself after his defeats, and the bounty set for the killing of monsters by Count Charles.

So he attacked that morning, and fought through the first monsters with ease - he could feel it going well, as it had done before, but knew the test would be the larger monsters, deeper into the region. After a solid morning's work, it was early afternoon when he laid eyes on a giant monster. It looked very much like the one that had wounded him in the mountains, perhaps driven down here by Libero Empire troops, or perhaps it was just a different but near-identical monster from the first. Whatever way, it was going to die to prove to Parve he was able to win on the third attempt.

And die it did, as Parve crept around behind it using paths he remembered through the fields, and sprung at it with sword aloft. It was dead barely before it knew what had hit it, which was probably a good thing given in the past it hadn't needed much time to turn the battle to its victory. Parve checked it to see if he could work out if it was the same mountain beast as before, but was distracted when he saw the glint of something... a ring, which was fallen by its side. He picked it up. A particularly fine ring, in fact. A fine trophy - but maybe too fine a trophy for himself, and one better to exchange for gold with a local noble.
