The history of Fornanzio Peristaltico

The Beginning in Talerium

Fornanzio Peristaltico was sent when only a child to Talerium, Atamara. Grown in that inhospitable desertic land, he has always been a silent and introverted person. For a long time he remained a member of the lower nobility of Talerium, without any desire to step up trying to make a name for himself or for his family. Then, at 26, he heard rumors of the success of one of his long forgotten cousins, Meristenzio Peristaltico; few weeks later, on the 15th January 2008, he decided that time to start a carrer was come.

Fornanzio did not share the call for arms nor the love for his country Meristenzio had. Quite without a clear objective for his future, he become a priest of The Word, the most popular religion in Talerium. However soon Fornanzio found that faith was not something he was ready to sacrifice his life to. Attracted by the mundane life and crawling activity of the town bordering the Desert, he decided to learn the basics of trading.

Emigration to Sirion

Fornanzio spent around two weeks making trades in the north of Talerium. Still unexperienced in the matter, he joined safe business aiming more to knowledge and practice rather than gold. After one month from his beginning, he soon found to be out of inspiration again. While trading was interesting, he did not found any interesting activity going on in Talerium, probably because of scarce experience. It was right in that period that his cousin Meristenzio wrote him, inviting Fornanzio back to Sirion, the land of their family, land painted as of possibilities for him. Fornanzio left Talerium and sailed to the East Continent, joining Sirion on the 21st February 2008.

Life in Sirion

Sirion was a realm locked in a bloody conflict, and almost its entire noble population was made by warriors. Fornanzio found a lot of work available for a manager and trader as him, surveying administration and delivering food to the besieged city of Oligarch. Under the direction of Banker Alain Revan he transported thousands bushels of food first to Oligarch then, when it fell, around the rest of the continent. Many times Fornanzio was captured by Fontan's soldiers while trying to cross enemy territory to transport food, but he completed most of his tasks, gaining renown and gold. It was in that period that he first visited the city of Ibladesh and first contacted Duke Quake Beam, Fiduciary of Ibladesh, with who he will make many other trade contracts in the future.

Changing side

Time passed and Fornanzio experience as trader grew significantly. However the war against Sirion was escalating and soon many realms declared war on it, reducing the markets available for its traders. In addition, because of enemy lootings, food was not as abuntant as in the past, and soon Fornanzio was without a safe job. He therefore decided to leave Sirion, sure that his Cousin Meristenzio would have taken care of the Peristaltico manor, joining Westmoor. Westmoor was an enemy of Sirion, and many considered him as a traitor in Sirion or as a spy in Westmoor, but it was a strategically well placed realm for trades, with a good food surplus and many allies. There he found the Duke of Oligarch, Corwin D'Saferate, to be welcoming and well disposed towards his trades. Soon he started to make business again, with and for the Duke, roaming around the continent and visiting many cities. Fornanzio was no longer working for anyone but himself, aiming to raise the wealth of the Peristaltico Family. Of the many realms he traded with, Ibladesh was still his preferite. Because of their great food need, they were always ready to welcome him and pay well for his work.

Ibladesh

As happened many other times in his life, Fornanzio grew tired of the situation. The diffidence of the Banker of Westmoor and the starvation that hit Oligarch during a terrible series of drought prevented the Duke from further trading with him. Meanwhile, war erupted between Perdan and Caligus and food stores were starting to be conserved rather than sold there. Being Fornanzio a freelancer, he soon found no way to make deals in that hostile scenario. No one was willing to trade food, fearing it would have ended in the hands of enemies. He soon realized how limited was his possibilities working alone inside a realm that was not interested in. He therefore choosed to join the only realm he found pleasant in his life: Ibladesh. Fornanzio is now serving in the Emissaries of Tersea, management army of Ibladesh, working as trader and bureaucrat for the Duchess of the white city of Ibladesh.

Fiduciary of Ibladesh and the emigration

After a couple months spent working for the Fiduciary of Ibladesh Duke Quake Beam, Fornanzio decided to try for an improvement for his career. Duke Quake announced he intended to retire from the banker's career and recommended Fornanzio, who was elected with a large majority of votes. Under his office the food of Ibladesh was wisely managed, and he enjoyed the trading agreements he had to made in order to keep the entire population of Ibladesh fed. It was a challenge that he gladly accepted and dealt with for a while. However, soon he started to miss his old and simpler life. As Fiduciary, he was involved in rather high level political talks and his position burdened him with important responsibilities, something he never really desired. When the disappearance of Pontifex Mythos Arrakis threw the realm into chaos, he decided the time for his retirement had come. He waited until the theocracy of Ibladesh regained balance with a new Pontifex, then left the position and the continent altogether. For too long the shadow of his cousin Meristenzio covered him, denying any meaningful advancement in the East Continent. And, even if he reached the Fiduciary position, he started to feel the same old sensation, where his blood bounds were seen with suspect from his peers. Fornanzio decided that had to be the last time for him to feel such discomfort and, suddenly, he set sail and left the continent altogether.

Ohnar West

Fornanzio reached the shores of Far east Island few days after he left Ibladesh, and joined Ohnar West. After an initial period as knight of Semon, he is now serving under Edmund Gryphonheartin Upasael. Meanwhile, he joined the Hansa, a trading guild created by Duke Joseph Von Genf in Akanos. He finally achieved what he dreamt of: finding good trading business on his own, living a simple life without any particular worry. Unfortunately, he was completely wrong. Soon the few trade routes he found dried up, and his life became a pointless wandering in a colorless land, trying to find an inspiration for his business that was yet to come. Duke Joseph Von Genf became first the banker then the Prime Minister of Ohnar West, and the Hansa soon became just an empty building in the several streets of Akanos. Trade was completely absent on the island and he had to start thinking again about smuggling to make some earnings. It is with this thought that he travelled in the remote south to Soliferum, a realm ravaged by war and an easy picking for a smuggler. For a while his activity was profitable, even if laborious and tiring. Then, one day, he was captured and imprisoned by the guards of Soliferum for illegal trading activities.

The prison of Soliferum and Fornanzio's further travels

Fornanzio was held in prison for few days, but to him they seemed an eternity. Finally, he was thrown out and declared an enemy of Soliferum. Banned and forbidden to enter that realm again, he slowly travelled home, wondering whether this was really a meaningful way to live.

On his way back, his thoughts were suddenly interrupted. Poisoned in the prison, he fell from his horse and was brought to Ohnar West's capital, Sanzzos, were he lied on the thin line between life and death for almost a week. For a miracle or thanks to his strenght of will, he finally healed and regained consciousness. The first thing he did was abandoning the Far East shores to forget as soon as possible all his pain and misery. Without thinking too much, he set sail for Atamara, the continent where he grew, and joined Carelia, a monarchy in the south of the isle.

He was again wrong. His mind was hard to cleanse and he kept wondering whether his life was really meaningful to be lived. The few times he had been able to make a name for himself were wasted for one reason or another. Trading was everywhere stagnant and not interesting as it has been in his younger days around Ibladesh.

In Carelia, he found even less to care about. The realm was in the midst of a political discussion bordering an open rebellion. A thrilling time for those interested in political debates and a time for potential changes. Yet, for Fornanzio, every letter was but a blurred whirlpool of white and black dots. He could not focus on anything, his mind slipping away every time he tried to concentrate on anything. He swore an oath to the lord of Cummaol without any commitment, and soon he found himself lying in a room rented in Sullenport, the ducal seat of the Cummaol Duchy. Wearlily he seldomly gave his aid to the local administration implementing good changes and slightly improving the city's governance. Yet his efforst were neither important nor relevant both for him nor for the region itself. At lenght he understood that he could no longer live like that, lingering in an empty room without caring for anything. Once again he felt the wanderlust and he steadily approached the port.

The Fourth Invasion and Riombara

In those days everyone was talking about Beluaterra. This remote and half misterious island was rumored to be the home to a mighty invasion of unhuman forces threatening to wipe out every human on the very soil of that land. At first Fornanzio did not really care for those tales, considering them little more than wonderous tale came from an inspirated mind. But at the end he was convinced there was some truth behind it, and indeed humans on Beluaterra were striving for their very existance.

Fornanzio knew perfectly he has never been a fighter, not even remotely. He knew battlefields, danger and the honor gained in battle was not something suited for him. Yet, for the first time, he actually realized that fighting would have been a good chance of putting his life at work for real. At work for others, not only for himself. He started to convince himself that a life was worth to be lived only when it's shared with those around you. Full of these weird thoughts he started to read books and speak to several priests or wiseman of some sort, more charlatans than else, easily found in the crowded streets of Sullenport.

His resolve strenghtened thanks to auto-suggestion rather than grounded reasons, he once again set sail and left Carelia, reaching Beluaterra and joining the realm of Riombara, rumored to be one of the most engaged in the war against the unholy hordes. Readying his old rusty sword he carried with himself since the early days, gave him by the Old Peristaltico, his grandfather, he started his service in the Riombaran army, his mind numbed by wonderous tales of battles between good and evil.

The Retirement

Soon however, he realized that regardless of his apparently determined commitment, Riombara was not the right place for fighting the enemies. Only few battles were fought, after which it was clear that the monsters were simply unstoppable for that realm, and politics quickly overcame military affairs. The Monsters hordes proposed an uneasy alliance, and Riombara split itself over it. Soon, an entire portion of the realm seceded and formed the Meridian Republic, allying themselves with the beasts for the greater good of being able to defend humanity one day.

Loyal to his liege, Duke Ercole of Athol Margos, Fornanzio find himself in a difficult situation. Unable to join the Meridian Republic, and already banned from Riombara as a traitor, his liege created a city state, hoping to gain time. Thus was born the Kingdom of Athol, were Fornanzio was elected Banker in a desperate attempt to normalize the life of a tiny portion of a continent squashed and torn apart by inhuman forces.

The Meridian Republic pressured Duke Ercole and convinced him to surrender the city, retaining his Ducal title. Wisely and without choices, the Duke accepted. Kindgom of Athol was no more, and Fornanzio lost every desire to continue a vain struggle against the invaders, especially because no sword could stop them. He withdrawn from noble activity and withdrew to a life of trade in Athol Margos. Rumors indicate he died during the invasion at a certain point, for reasons unknown.
