Establishments of Perdan

This is a partial list of fine establishments and crafters in Perdan and gossip about them, of possible interest to those seeking various services. There are many others, of course, but this should aid any aspiring nobles (or, potentially, commoner with sufficient patronage and gold).

Attire

Within the City of Perdan

The grandest city of one of the original realms of the Ancient East, Perdan has accumulated much over its history.

Allory's Last

A purveyor of fine shoes, here is a small bit of gossip regarding them.

She paused before the familiar window of a shoemaker, Allory's Last, down a sidestreet away from the bustle. Formal footwear and tall, polished military boots were on display under gracefully hung banners in Perdan's colours behind the frost-rimed panes. She could feel the anticipation of the upcoming Coronation shining through this enthusiastic display. Her eyes gazed unseeing past the proudly attendant boots, her mind far away.

The door's bell tinkled and startled her from her thoughts.

"Is that Dame Isana? Do come in out of the cold dear, if you'd like t'look? Or just for a spot of tea if you've the time." The sweet face of Mrs. Allory peered at her through thick crystal lenses, her breath swirling clouds of steam into the chill afternoon.

Isana paused a moment, trapped between wallowing in her moody musings and the usually appealing invitation to tea. They'd spent a lovely morning with the Allorys when her Captain Henrik had ordered his mess boots many months ago, and she'd hardly stopped in since. Glancing at the winter sun still high in the sky, and down the street to the swinging sign to the Bloody Stump, Isana made up her mind and turned back to the stooped older woman with a soft little smile.

"Yes, Mrs. Allory, I've a little time for tea if you do. I'm hoping for missives later this day but an escape from worries is welcome."

"O'course Milady, in with you now. What could ye be worrying about in these happy days, here?"

Johan's

A gentleman's tailor, patronized by Duke Smiddich Fontaine and later Duke Kenneth MacArbin. Elegant attire, and the atmosphere one would smoke a fine cigar in. Duke Kenneth enjoys telling this story at various events.

Duke Smiddich deigned to entertain Sir Kenneth in a gentlemans tailor, escorting the young noble while he was fitted. The pirate lord went first, measured with tape and fitted for shirts and tight trousers, a governors jacket and calf-high boots; the older gentleman tailor wrapped the purchases in tissue paper for porters to bear away on to the ducal palace.

Sir Kenneth was bade on the box later as the two made small-talk, the Duke making passing recommendations which the older tailor bantered back and forth; Smiddich was comfortable here, reclining with a smoke as Kenneth was marked with pins.

"The clothes you chose can hide you, or make a statement, but rarely both!", said the Duke of Blades, blowing a lazy curl of smoke, "If you wish to take a courtly position within our realm, you must look the part! Then, you must act it!", he grinned, stubbing out the flaming brand.

For Kenneth, leather trousers with a tapered leg (quite flattering!), a crisp linen shirt which must have been worth a small fortune alone, and an over-one-shoulder short-cape which made him seem dashing and urgent. "Take a day or two for these adjustments!", muttered the old tailor as he buffed a pair of buckled shoes; these would be fine for the city streets but less desirable in the field.

Silverhand's

Alexandros Lysian is renowned for his excellent, and minute, silverwork. First exhibited before the realm at large during the Coronation of Queen Alyssa Kingsley, the court expects to see more from him in the days to come. Other known lesser crafters working under Alexandros are M. Paul Wortham, M. Varios Lysian, Md. Denae Karth, and A. William Goldsmith

Helena and Daughters

Mastercrafter Helena does the best and most intricate leatherwork in the city of Perdan, and her ceremonial armour has been worn far and wide. She played a partial role in the early romance between Kenneth MacArbin and Dustiria Noire, before either rose to prominence, and long before Dustiria's departure from Perdan.

The leather working street was thankfully not far (and thankfully not near the tanneries by the river), just at the far end of the Crooked Street district he now managed. Upon arriving at Mastercrafter Helena's establishment, a very elegant looking two-story building fronted with some undeterminable old dark wood with a simple brass nameplate below an emblem of a leather pauldron, Septinia opened the door, bowing, and announced them.

"Mastercrafter, Sir Kenneth of House MacArbin, and Lady Dustiria of House Noire."

As they stepped inside, a warm waft of oils and new leather greets them, as does the Mastercrafter herself, a solid woman with lean muscle and unusually long-fingered hands.

"Welcome, Lady and Sir! We have the design roughed out, per the measurements provided, but with something of this caliber we will need to do some final measurements, and then the discussion of what sorts of decoration you had in mind. This way, milady, and milord, if you want to examine some of the display pieces for ideas on what decorative elements are possible..."

Helena smiled, gesturing Dustiria toward the back.

Sun, Moon, and Estelle's

From a letter sent by Duke Kenneth MacArbin to Lady Amelara Everwind, which was the subject of some amusement by the scribes afterwards.

For elegant, I will recommend one Mastercrafter Estelle in Perdan City. She has three virtues that I think you will find useful:

First, she is wise enough to know that her talents are more to the design than the execution, and has a considerable number of hands in her employ to see to those designs, while she reserves her own for the chalk rather than the needle.

Second, she understands that in her profession, timing is key, and you need not fear of having a gown ready for the occasion.

Third, she has a true gift for helping one realize the perfect style for you and the occasion, regardless of how lost you may feel in such matters personally.

Her wit, I will admit, is not for everyone, but if you can either ignore it or, better, sharpen your own tongue, then she is the best I know of and you will enter the coronation in an outfit most refined.

Within the Town of Bescanon

Under the guidance of Duke Kenneth MacArbin, culture has been on the rise in Bescanon, but is no comparison to Perdan City itself.

Thalia

Experimental, temperamental, and outrageous, there is little known in detail about Thalia. She often adds "surnames" that are clearly ridiculous, and changes them each time she introduces herself, if she bothers to give one at all. Her work is ostentatious and flamboyant in the extreme, and not for the faint of heart, as Lady Pandora de Pooh learned to her consternation...

The other package was to be the dress she had ordered. An unusual perfume came off of the package. A small holographic note reads, “Heading to the coronation? Special alterations were much needed to be made, thank me later. xoxo —Thalia Chanel-Hilfiger”

At first, she thought she had put her top on backwards. In disbelief, the top was adjusted back to the front, then front to the back. Pandora’s mouth was agape. The modest neckline of the opaque indigo turned into the deepest and widest of all v lines she has seen. Fortunately, the fabric underneath held her dignity. The sheer lace with flower-like embroidery barely covered anything without the sides of the v, remarkable that it was all fitted. Pandora remedies her situation by draping on her military coat with the first button, hoping any reason to uncover herself would not come so soon as she steps into the carriage.
