Ambassador of the Zuma Coalition
7 December 12YD Karana Tian
Over the time I've been in Caerwyn, there has always been a lot of interest in the Zuma Coalition, yet few solid answers. Today, I hope that changes. By a stroke of luck I was able to ask a couple questions to the Ambassador of the Zuma Coalition, Garret Artemesia. One of those answers I am sharing with you all here today, with his permission of course. I asked him if he would be willing to describe the culture of the Zuma. And here is his answer:

The culture of the Zuma is rather complex and difficult to describe just in words, especially since you and, I would expect most of your readers, have not observed their lives on a personal level. There are, to be certain, visitors from the outside, but the most they find are usually traces and hints of life, but otherwise emptiness. This is not unique to the Zuma culture though, as even among outlanders there are different cultures that might be difficult to describe to one who has never lived closely with said people. For example, it is not unthinkable that a Madinan would not understand Thulsoman culture.

About two weeks ago I led a tour of Nightmarch to some invited guests, allowing them to see some aspects of Zuma life. Perhaps some of them would be willing to share their experiences. Among those you might know is Constantine Meneldur of D'Hara, a priest of Sanguis Astroism.

As far as conveniences and occupations are concerned, there is not much different from what you have. The Zuma have priests and warriors and craftspeople, artisans, musicians, merchants, scholars. I believe the major difference would be the appearance, which mostly has to do with the climate here. There is religion here, which does not take the form of religion you might be used to. There are gender roles by tradition, but as well the society is matriarchal. The short answer would be that you really would need to get a close look, but as of now, I will be entertaining guests for only a few more weeks before stopping any new invitations for a while to focus on renovations.

Referendum Watch
5 December 12YD - 11 December 12YD Karana Tian
Couple referendums to report on this week! First and foremost we have the Competition of the Magistrate, otherwise and more boringly known as the Election of the Next High Magistrate. While there were only two candidates, the current High Magistrate stood his ground and came out victorious.

The Results for the Competition of the Magistrate:

  • 76 votes for Hyperion Harte
  • 29 votes for Malcolm Prestongreen
  • 100 votes were not cast

Also this week, we have the election to choose the first Caerwynian Lord of Uppervia. Four different candidates entered the running, with varying degrees of times in realm, service histories, and backgrounds. Some relied on their intentions and goals, others relied on their past experiences. Who will be victorious? Well, you're reading the right issue!

The Results for the Choosing the First Caerwynian Lord of Uppervia:

  • 26 votes for Amara
  • 6 votes for Jeremy
  • 3 votes for Bendix
  • 13 votes were not cast

Lastly, after a brief period of Anarchy, Ordenstaat has elected a new Grand Master. One can only wonder what brought around a change in the Ordenstaati High Council, and if anyone has information on it, send it my way please!

Tournament in Caerwyn
10 December, 12 YD Karana Tian
3600 Gold. That's the total offering Caerwyn made to the rest of Dwilight. 3600 gold, and the opportunity to win a portion of it. All in all, 40 nobles from 9 realms of Dwilight attended.

Greg Tarr (Lord of Morek Empire) won the swordfighting tournament (Kihalin Lapallanch, Baron of Chrysantalys Mines came second place). The jousting contest was won by Cerber DeRouen (Knight of Libidizedd, Astrum) (Second place: Sir Amandil of Umbar, Viscount of Knyazes, Marshal of the Legion of the Golden Griffin).

All in all, I guess Astrum can call that a win, taking home 1800 gold. The Morek Empire took home 1200. And Caerwyn retained control over 600. Just shy of one tenth of Dwilight attended, with just over half the realms of the land represented.

Rumour Mill
18 Decemeber, 12 YD Karana Tian
These past couple of weeks have been a bit more entertaining, one might say. First off, apparently a Lurian commoner had the gall to smart off to his own High Council! Word has it he's still on the run, though his name has been dissemenated to every realm in Dwilight.

Also, there is word of a Rebel problem in the Libero Empire. The group claims to have ties to multiple other realms, nominally Asylon. As to how such a realm so distant could help, is beyond me.

Lastly, His Grace, Glaumring of Asylon was recently spotted in the Vias.

Glaumring Steps Down
13 December, 12 YD Glaumring Apasurain
In 5 days according to my promise I will be once again stepping down as ruler of Asylon and allowing a free election to take place within the realm. It is time for me to retire the crown and allow new ideas and directions in Asylon to blossom. I have enjoyed running this kingdom, it has been hard and diplomacy and our position has been extremely difficult.

I think what every leader thinks of near the end of their tenure, is whether they had done enough, or done it right or could have done more. History shall judge my actions.

I ulimately believe in the revolution and I believe in what Asylon has become and will rise up to. We are a strong people now and we have proven to eachother that we can surmount odds stacked against us. We have beaten monsters, retaken Vakreno heaps, we have modified our tax system, though imperfect it has allowed us to focus our funds into areas where it is needed more quickly. We have survived our isolation with Caerwyn and we have given strength to our words and held back the lions of the north with our pure will.

In the end, I would like to say this, we may not agree with everything I have done, but I would like to say that I have served with the best nobles that a king could have , you are loyal and strong beyond any others, I deeply and truly consider you all my brothers and sisters, and some of us have served with eachother for ages now it seems.

The tin crown I wear upon my head was pounded out of ore mined from the coastline of the Thulsoman capital many ages ago when I was young, I stood with General Randemicos and we vowed to stand and fight against the entire world that day, and we have.

I will soon take this crown from my head and hand it to another, I do it gladly, not because I wish to run from this, I would desire to serve until I am old as the stars, but alas, I am also a believer in renewal and change, a strong realm survives its rulers, it melds and forms with each new season...

Asylon is not an idea, it is not a dream... It is its people.
