Roleplay from Conrac Amcastra:

Two servants appear right after and bow deeply "Lady Sorsha please come this way." They politely guide her through the castle until she reached the office, at which time they quietly drifted off to leave her alone.

"Come in!" As Sorsha stepped in the first thing she noticed was paper. Paper was literally everywhere. Conrac's desk could best be described as a whirlwind of paper. Conrac himself sat in a comfortable looking chair that he had earned with 5 years of breaking his back, opening his incoming-mail and contemplating the bundle of silk reports before him. He looked up momentarily and blinked.

"Who are yo...wait is that you Sorsha" Conrac examines Sorsha for a few minutes before recognition comes into his eyes.

"Sorsha! Forgive me I did not recognize you. You look wonderful." Conrac bows his head politely and puts his letters down.

"I've been expecting you. Sit down." Conrac points to a nearby chair. "So, I expect your wondering why I've called you here?"

Roleplay from Sorsha McDowell:

Sorsha politely took the nearby chair and sat, she smiled and tried to keep her gaze away from the incredible mass of paper, but it was futile. It was just everywhere, instead she focused her gaze on him. “Yes I have,” she finally said, “I apologize I was unsure how to present myself,” she informed almost shyly.

Roleplay from Conrac Amcastra:

"Not at all mi'lady, you look lovely" Conrac looked around himself and laughed.

"I apologize for not cleaning my office...Its been a trial, I admit." Conrac picked up one paper and showed her.

'PORT NEBEL NEEDS FOOD'

"I've been bombarded with things since, I've arrived in this office." He slammed his hands down and a small tower of paper fell down behind him.

"Oopps..." Conrac coughed politely as his face reddened.

"Anyway the reason I've brought you here is because you've been highly recommended by someone. So I want to know what sort of person you are. Of course before I interrogate you shamelessly, I first need to know one thing." Conrac turned his eyes back to Sorsha.

"Do you want to be Lady of Nebel?"

Roleplay from Sorsha McDowell:

Sorsha blinked at his question. She was new to the realm, she wondered what kind of recommendation she had gotten. “I have no experience in these matters,” she informed him truthfully.

Roleplay from Conrac Amcastra:

Conrac laughed. "Experience is something that can be gained. There was a time when I didn't know anything..."

The laughter faded softly. "Except how to plunge my sword into another person's belly."

Conrac stamped another piece of paper authorizing the stewards to lower taxes before continuing. "Sorsha, I want you down here in the Duchy of Nebel, not in Paisly where you are no more useful then any other knight. Sitting on a throne is a thousand times harder then winning one. Laws are a tedious business and counting coppers is worse. And the people...there is no end of them. I sit on this damn chair and listen to them complain until my mind is numb and my ass is raw. They all want something, money or land or justice. The lies they tell...and the peasants are no better. I am surrounded by flatterers and fools. It can drive a man to madness, Sorsha. Half of them don't dare tell me the truth, and the other half can't find it."

Conrac picked up another piece of paper and examined it. "If I wanted to honor you, I'd let you retire to a nice country seat. I am planning to make you help me run this duchy and support me in court while I play political games."

"What I need is someone who will guard my back, protect my secrets, give me advice, and yes, be honest to me. That’s what I need" Conrac signed another piece of papers. He snapped his fingers and a hawk flew in. He quickly tied the paper to the hawk's leg and watched it fly away.

"That said, Nacaran will be removed as Lord of Nebel eventually. Once this main island is totally under D'hara control, I plan on having him step down, so you'll have to wait a bit."

Finally finished with his paperwork, Conrac sinks into his chair. "There were many reasons why I decided on you but this was the best one." Conrac reached into his desk and withdrew...a doll.

"I need to know whether you understand how much pain you are going to be going through. I will need complete obedience from you, and I need to trust that you will defend me even if you think I am wrong. I need you to shield my back and keep my counsel and give your life for mine, if need be. In exchange I vow that you shall always have a place by my hearth and pledge to give you mercy when you are weak, help when you are helpless, and justice at all times."

Conrac smiled lightly "I need you to protect me like a girl would protect her favorite doll."

Conrac reached for a sword near his desk and laid it over his lap. "Do you understand what I'm asking of you? Lordships may be more of a curse then a honor. I will not blame you if you refuse, indeed, I'll even recommend you in court to be the region lord of another Duke if you want. My terms are harsh and extremely demanding."

As the sun began to lower in the sky it hits Conrac's sword. At closer glance it can be seen that his sword is not the sword of a knight. It is cruelly sharp, and jagged at the edges, hardly the weapon of an honorable knight in shining armor. "I am not the sort of Duke, people dream of serving. But I am cunning, I've proven I'm no coward. I am cleverer than most, surely wits count for something. And loyal to those who are loyal to me."

"I ask you again, do you understand what being a vassal lord to me will mean?"

Roleplay from Sorsha McDowell:

Sorsha had listened to every word, and read between the lines to the ones left unspoken. It was true she appeared shy on the exterior, but when it mattered she was extremely blunt, she was like a cobra, and would strike when people least expected her to.

“I understand what you are asking of me,” she said softly with a nod, “I am nothing if not loyal until the end. I protect those who protect me. I will most certainly defend you in action or in words. I will strive to learn as best as I can so that I may do so intellectually.”

She rose from her chair, and her blue eyes looked into his, showing the eerie violet specks adorning them. “I may appear timid, but I am brutally honest. I will follow you, but I will not do so blindly. If I am to guard your back as you need, make me want to do so and return the truth you so desperately seek. You may find, my Lord that I as well, can be cunning and ruthless when the need arises, I have a velvet touch, but it can easily transform into a deadly strike… Am I truly the type of lady you seek?”

It was not a threat by any means she simply wanted to prove to him, she could rise to the occasion and that she wasn’t a simple minded puppet.

Roleplay from Conrac Amcastra:

Conrac stared at Sorsha for a few minutes. "You are more then just an ordinary lady. You will be more then just an ordinary Lord."

Conrac paused, "I cannot make you want to guard my back. I will be frank, I am not a man who inspires love. I inspire respect, hatred as well. But I have rarely inspired true admiration. I can however return truth." He smiled. "You will find that I will keep no secrets from you. Because I will need you to trust me as much as I will need to trust you. I need you to be my spear, powerful, strong and cunning. I need you to be my strongarm, the force behind my pretty smiles and the glittering gold of the Duchy of Nebel's political maneuvering."

"I am glad that you are no simple-minded puppet" Conrac put the sword on the desk.

"I don't need puppets, there are thousands of them in the streets. I need a smart individual to lead the forces of the Duchy into battle. Someone who can learn quickly and be clever, capable and swift."

Conrac pointed to the sword. "I need someone who can arise to the occasion no matter what it is. Even..." Conrac passed his hand over the sword lightly. "If she or he may be forced to do things that are less then honorable. This sword is actually poisoned on the edge...most knights would condemn that as not worthy of nobility but I need my region lord to be not only willing to use this sword but to master it."

He reached into his desk and took out a beautiful fan. "During my days in Viridian I was often called the White Crane." He twirled the fan elaborately before tapping the sword again. "If I am a crane, then I need you to be my Iron Talon."

"The spear waits not for its master, but rushes forth to guard the way." Conrac smiled softly. "Try out that sword and tell me whether you’re willing to be the spear for this Crane?"

Roleplay from Sorsha McDowell:

Sorsha examined Conrac’s face and after a moment, she picked up the sword. She came from a long line of warriors something most did not know, her entire family believed in courage and strength in adversity. No matter the obstacle they had always been victorious. It was her fate, no McDowell ever turned away from a challenge, it would be an insult to everything they stood for and now this challenge was hers.

When she did take the sword it was with ease, and she moved the blade letting the light reflect off the edge.

She momentarily thought of the dream she previously had on one of her first days here in Dwilight and remembered her cousin’s words. “It has begun… it is only one beginning to an end, and you shall weep. Be weary the danger and the deception. Always seek for truth and you shall receive. Know this, for every tear you cry justice will be found. It is who you were meant to be.”

She finally looked back to Conrac and spoke, “A weapon is a weapon, no matter if it is concealed with venom, so is the tongue of every political man I have ever crossed. They begin with honeyed words, but in the end no matter the outcome, the disease beneath is revealed. I will be your Iron Talon. I will stand at your back. I will be the strongarm you need, and I will ensure their poison never reaches you.”

She set the sword back on the table, and slowly pulled up her skirt. To Conrac’s surprise, he stared as she dropped modesty and revealed a long tanned leg. She withdrew the dagger she had concealed around her thigh, letting the skirt fall. It was large, with runic symbols engraved and seemingly entwined around the entire hilt. The powerful battle prayer was known only by its owner.

“This is one of many of my family’s guardians, it has protected me, cutting through every enemy in its path,” she gave a malicious smile “it was not used in way of honors, as most knights would expect.” Her fingers caressed the message and she twirled the blade expertly, “as well as being your Iron Talon, I will be the concealed dagger you need.”

Roleplay from Conrac Amcastra:

Conrac nodded softly. "Then we have an agreement. From here on while we are still two people we are not quite separate. We are two halves of a whole. The crane and his talons."

"Take this sword, it’s yours."

He picked up the sword with two hands gingerly, although he had metal gloves on, the sword was dangerously jagged, and a cut from this sword could prove fatal indeed.

"I won't have you say any vows right now. We can do that once this island is fully unified, Nacaran steps down and I appoint you officially. But from here until the end of our respective lives we are now bound together. Higher than the battle of two skies, greater then the proclamation of three thunders..."

Conrac's eyes stared straight at Sorsha and he extended the sword in his hands to her.

Roleplay from Sorsha McDowell:

Sorsha took in the entire conversation now and took a small breath. The matter seemed somewhat at an end and she flipped the dagger in the air swiftly catching it by the blade and presented it to Conrac. She gracefully took up the sword in exchange. “So we are,” she said solemnly, “together.”
