House Luegg

Of old there has been a black cloud over the home castle of the Luegg family. Most members of the family went abroad and pledged their loyalties to a foreign lord. Mostly they are brave and true to their liege. Some say, however; bad luck sleeps on Luegg's shoulders.

One peculiarity about this family: no one has ever heard of a Luegg to speak about his family. Young girls have sombre faces and fresh knights have old scars. If there is a one common trait about this family, then they all have a tight lip about their own. No one speaks much as it is, though when they do, they usually stir quite some commotion.

After an initial success of the family (obtaining the first Lord, Marshal...), there must have happened a tragedy of some sort. In one single day all the family's members completely withdrew from public life and soon after disappeared abandoning even their abode. History slowly started to forget the troubled family and so, fame and even memory of the house began to fade. As suddenly as they have disappeared however, they have also made a sudden return. The family settled back in their old stronghold in Winkamus on the foot of Bursa's mountains. Young nobles again rode out into the world and took their first oaths. Old people however, shook their heads. They knew the curse of the Castle "Cavedrop" all too well.

Cavedrop Castle

A true stronghold perked at the entrance of a cave and reachable only by a narrow drawbridge. The castle was in its history only taken once and only its remote and non-strategic location makes it obscure. It has been in the possession of the Luegg family for as long as it can be remembered.

The legend of the castle's fall is often sung in the Winkamus region. The army that laid a siege aimed to starve the inhabitants as scaling it's walls was clearly a futile attempt. After several months of the siege, winter was ending and even the besieging army became hard pressed for food. To much surprise The Master of Cavedrop started to throw cherries out of the window even though snow was still covering the grounds. After this he announced to be prepared to deliver a roasted pig for the besieging Lord as he hated to see a noble person eating only gruel for sustenance. All he demanded in turn was for the army to withdraw certain distance and a word of honour that his envoy will not be harmed. Both parties kept their word, the pork was delivered and the messenger returned unharmed. The same night the castle was overrun. The messenger has betrayed his master for the promise of one thousand golden pieces. At the dead of the night, he lowered the castles bridge and all the Cavedrop men were killed in their sleep or captured and executed the next morning. As a curtsy to the noble Lord of Cavedrop, even the traitor was hanged. Some of the soldiers grunted it was also a very nifty way to reclaim the thousand gold pieces, but as they were merely commoners this does not really count. As a last man they executed the Cavedrop's Master by decapitation.

The very last man? Well there is this report of the young Master missing. He was reported to be inside the castle during the siege, however; he was never found. The castle was thoroughly searched and no hidden rooms were revealed. Also the cave behind the castle was explored and although it extended well behind, no passages were found.

After this the castle was destroyed and deserted. After decades, it was rebuild by an old men and the current Masters claim they belong to the original noble family.
