David Kingsley II is a Taselakian noble and knight.
Early Life
David's birth is of some dispute. According to his father, David Kingsley, he was the son of his relationship with Sorcha Medevandal, though there is no proof of this lineage and few people meet this claim with any more than scoff. David himself never believed his father's claim, and he lived his life as a bastard. The younger David lived alone with his father, in the mountains towering over the Cave of Guilt as part of the old marshal's self-imposed exile. While David always resented his father while growing up for keeping him in a harsh remote area, he did love his father, and his father took good care of him, teaching him everything he knew, especially about fighting. By the time David had reached his teenage years and could ostensibly leave on his own, his father had grown old and ill, and David could not abandon the old man to die alone in the cold mountain snows. He took care of the man for many years until his death.
The life growing up in the mountains was difficult. And David experienced much hardship as a result. Between the difficult elements, roaming monsters that hid in the crevices and crags of the mountains, and the wandering warbands of soldiers from all three of the realms, David quickly learned (with the training of his father) how to fight, how to kill, and more importantly what it would take to survive in the difficult lands of the South Island.
Knight of the Empire
After the death of David's father, he wandered south into Moeth where he picked up a few farmhands turned mercenaries and a sponsorship and knighthood from Rev Greer to earn enough money to eat. His little company quickly received a letter from Alexander Daubeny, the contemporary Emperor of Taselak to whom he jokingly offered his services as a personal guard, a nod to the duties of his father, personal guard and paramour of Sorcha Medevandal, Queen of Taselak, as well as his grandfather Jonn Kingsley who served as the personal protector of Queen Mischa Vallejo.
David was present during the Southern Campaign in the war against Sandalak beginning in the Fall of 2020. He assisted in the takeovers of Figobar, Yayhan, Rhic, and Elidrir. He also held the line alongside the other Taselakian commanders during the sorties into Yayhan. He was critical of the Empire's agreement with Ikalak, to destroy Sandalak, believing that Ikalak was getting the far better end of the deal. He also participated in the Siege of Sandalak.
Personality
As a result of years of isolation, resentment towards his father, and growing up in harsh conditions, David Kingsley became a cold and cynical man. He has little value for life, beyond the instinct of survival and has little problem ending or harming the lives of others. While he takes no joy in killing, he has no problem doing so and is often callous about the nature of life, including his own. While he has never commanded an army, he does have a penchant for leadership, especially in smaller companies and prefers to work alone or in small groups if possible. The remoteness of his upbringing also has left him with poor social skills, and he typically is a man of few words, though when he does talk, speaks familiarly with most people including those above his station.
