Guide to Antanian Style Fairs

By Lord Antan, Old Rancagua, February 21, 2006

Greetings! So you have come desiring knowledge upon an Antanian style fair? Whether the purpose is to participate, create a fair, or simply learn more this is the place for you.

1) What is an Antanain Fair?

You might ask yourself, what are these fairs? Antanian fairs are a breed of roleplay started in Old Rancagua, organized by Antan. It is a time of intense involvement in the roleplaying world. The fair master (the one who organized the fair) shall start each turn with a post concerning their involvement in the day’s festivities. Everyone in the realm is HIGHLY encouraged to branch off of this initial roleplay and begin their own storylines. This provides a great opportunity for you to further develop your character’s traits and hobbies.

2) Who can participate?

EVEYONE AND ANYONE!!!! Everyone with the smallest amount of time can participate. Your roleplays can range from the short one line commentary to a giant post concerning your character’s involvement with the day’s events. If one signs up for an event, one is expected to roleplay their arrival at an event and their participation. If you did not sign up for an event, one can still roleplay out a late arrival.

3) How do I sign up for an event?

The Fair Master will post a list of the Festival’s events at least three days prior to the beginning event. This list will contain each day’s festivities with space provided underneath the heading for one to sign up at. If one wishes to sign up, they simply copy the Fair Master’s post and add their name to the events they wish to join. Example:

DAY ONE: Dueling

DAY TWO: Jousting Antan

4) What events are acceptable in a Fair?

A wide range of events are available, as long as it is nothing racy or explicit. The main staples of previous fairs include: Archery, Drinking/Eating Competitions, Jousting, Dueling, Closing Ceremony. Other events include: Dancing, Poetry/Music, Fishing, Canoe races, Foot races, and Lumberjacking. It is up to the mind of the Fair Master.

5) Are there any rules concerning Fairs?

Yes, you can bet there are. Fair Rules

6) How does dueling and jousting take place?

There are two possibilities that I have found work well. Now, the dueling code can be sued. After a duel, both duelers present their roleplays about what happened during the fight, with proper regards to who won and lost. The other option, which is my favorite, is to completely RP the whole thing. The Fair Master decides a bracket for elimination dueling. The two competitors, on the day of the duel, each present their RPs of the fight. NO ONE ROLEPLAYS BEING THE WINNER! The two parties then send a personal message to each other, deciding who will win. The two parties then put out RPs, showing how they either lost/won. Many times, it is more enjoyable to roleplay losing heroically than winning. Dueling is only possible with to mature parties who do not engage in childish bickering. Jousting takes place in a similar way. The Fair Master will design a bracket for the competitors. The Fair Master shall roleplay the set up of the field, with the different colored tents and armor set up around the field of battle. Each contestant can then pick their color and roleplay suiting up in their armor. The joust is then carried on in a similar way that the dueling is.

7) Are there any prizes?

As of now, there are not. A Fair Master can put forward a gold sum to the person who has the best roleplays throughout the Fair. This award can even go to someone who did participate, but simply talked about events that were happening. Also, the joy you will get from the Fair should be more than award enough. The bonds you will form with your fellow players will be great, and the chance to develop your character is superb as well.
