Wolf's Den

Collab with Chamberlain

She had to walk at a trot, far faster than she would choose, giving the impression that she might have been skipping to any watching. Deftly dodging past the drunken crowds who barely had time to develop hangovers before the next barrel opened. She chased down the straight backed progress of the Marshal.

Reaching him she slipped an arm through his, drawing a brief look of surprise that ended with the raised eyebrows of 'oh you'. He was taller than her and his armour provided an ease of movement her skirts did not and she continued to skip along in his wake. He turned his face from her and she imagined he may be amused by the way in which he was forcing her movement. She tugged on his arm forcing him to pause and look at her.

"Normally such exercise would be bracing Jace, but being with child makes it a little more awkward."

“With… eh… erm… what?”

Sheer surprise and confusion displayed on his usually cold face, their walk was brought to a halt as if an invisible hand stopped them.

“And you’re… here? On the... front?”

"I'm pregnant not ill, Jace." She flushed a little embarrassed and a little angry by the question, knowing it was one she had already asked herself repeatedly. "I have passed a good seven or eight women who are either fat or pregnant in the last ten minutes alone. And I wager I am sleeping in a more comfortable bed and with better protection than all of them." She stepped back from him crestfallen. "Apart from Lucius, you are the first person I have told Jace, before family even. Can't you please be happy for me?"

“You… Eh… Y- I- whatever, of course I am happy for you. Just- if I see you in battle one more time, I will tie you up and personally take you back to Aix.”

“Wait, Lucius?” a brief, almost unnoticeable laugh escaped Jacelyn’s lips “I wouldn’t have guessed that. He is far more dangerous than he looks like. Just be careful, Lori.”

She laughed putting his hand on her gently fruitful abdomen. His height pulled him down and she gently kissed his cheek. "I think it is a little late for that Jace. You shall be the most tremendous uncle."

Her gaze at him was contented and happy, a warmth that she wanted to share with those closest to her. "We are to be married." She slipped her arm into his again pulling him close despite his absolute impliability. "I am so happy."

“Oh, you know how I meant that. I am sure you will be a great mother. Perhaps could you son become my squire one day. I’d make a knight out of him.“

She laughed "A son! You sound like Lucius… he could seek no finer tutor Jace." She said seriously. He had slowed his pace and they walked comfortably along. "I was not sure you would be speaking to me… after Apollyon... and Karbala. I never intend to force you into roles you would fairly avoid… did you hear that this Daubney cousin supposes Apollyon has passed… I don't believe it for a minute."

“Well, Karbala was… awkward. But you pretty much saved me there, so I guess I owed you that. I don’t know what you’re talking about otherwise, but… Apollyon would be dead three times already, if it weren’t for you. Who knows what could have happened.”

Jacelyn straightened and turned his gaze away, looking into the distance, as if he tried to look through the houses and walls around them.

“So… you have names already?”

She giggled, her joy bubbling making her feel like a child again herself. "That was one of Lucius first questions. I think I will know his name when I see him." More dead cats lined this part of the streets making her shudder, instinctively Jacelyn put a protective arm around her pulling her close. The people were not openly hostile, but the cat population had certainly suffered from the actions of the underground resistance. With a restraining hand she brought him to a halt.

"Is that the Queens banner?" She asked him.

“Certainly looks like it. She was supposed to arrive this afternoon, it’s why I was headed here. Lords Daario and Samuel were to supposed to meet her in Leibo and escort here. Come on, we should greet her.”
