It's the day after of the brief skirmish between Oliver's men and Yssrgard. Like he had promised in his letter, he and his men are camped out near where the fight happened. They are all tending their wounds and the weary band looked barely ready for another fight; but their lord was still very much determined to hold the field, as if they had conquered it. The Perdan banners hang proudly here in the wind.

Hearing the synchronous sound of hundreds of boots striking the earth, Oliver stands up from the commander's desk he had set up on the open field. At the same time, waving off his loyal shieldmaiden Brynja; who was cleaning the shallow axe cut he earned over his breast. He turns to see the rest of the Blackmane Paladins marching into the area at last.

Unfortunately, too late to fight the enemy.

Oliver grins mischeviously anyway, some of his young fire is breaking through. The young, invincible-feeling knight decides to strut forward a few steps to meet the army, bare chested still with only half of his battle gear on. Mainly clad in plate from the waist down.

"I'm glad you could all make it! I was wondering if I would have to still fight them all on my own!" Oliver laughs while calling out. An energized glint could be seen in his eyes if any were close enough.

"It's good to see you all haven't lost your eagerness for a fight after all!"

"Neither did you, Sir Oliver." Jacelyn's uninterested voice cut through the air. "Is there somewhere we can talk in private?"

He dismounted his horse and approached the younger knight, his heavy hauberk quietly clinging. Whilst his Captain led his men into the camp, Jacelyn stopped just before Sir Oliver and gave him his usual cold stare, avoiding showing any emotions on his face.

The knight of Bisciye, Oliver's senior here, appears out of the mass; and in return, Oliver opens up his arms in welcome much like an amicable, expecting host. The open clearing around of which being his manor.

The younger knight cants his head over so slightly, and dons a slick grin at the sight of Jacelyn. Though the effect barely softens Oliver's own cutting features, more arrogant, in spite of the cold stare he receives in return.

"Welcome, Marshal Jacelyn, and of course." Oliver smoothly oozes, accepting to speak alone with his commander. He half turns to a nearby waiting servant for his coat, casually snapping his fingers. Who hurriedly rushes in to help his lord put it back on.

Then rolling his shoulders now with the jacket covering him modestly up, he turns back to Jacelyn,

"No doubt you would like to hear how I managed to scare the barbarians off the field." Oliver says with a dash of pride, and finally motions for his followers to leave the two of them alone. The looming Brynja behind him in hesitant as always to be away from his side, but even she eventually gives them space.

"I always want to hear about feats as great as scaring the enemy off with a defeated and routed unit,"

Jacelyn took a deep breath, his eyes narrowing and his lips pursing. He spoke slowly, without intonation in his words, but his focus and determination was clearly visible.

"But I would be even more interested in learning how you ended up here, on the other side of the border, in the first place."

Now a crease between his brows begins to form at Sir Jacelyn's unflattering assessment of his unit's situation, and so Oliver grows sterner himself since the young knight's joviality wasn't shared.

A cold wind blows through the clearing.

"As for that," Oliver replies in his usual soft tone, looking his senior straight in the eyes. "I merely assumed our army was to continue marching on Al Aquabah the day after we cleared Clermont—As the orders insinuated we were going to fight in both regions."

There's a subtle shift in his posture; almost imperceptibly standing straighter, and he tilts his nose up ever so slightly. He's waiting to be challenged on his generous interpretation of the old battle orders. "We moved under the cover of night, and I could have sworn the other Paladins were just behind me on the road. Heading to join the fight too..."

Oliver's eyes grow more critical in that moment, as he surely felt in his right, "...Instead of allowing the enemy to escape."

"You call it that, I call it following orders. Which might make you some trouble, given that this is not your first time."

Jacelyn noticed the change in the young knight's attire and decided to tease him with a crooked grin and a relaxed pose, obviously not intimidated.

"Our orders were to drive the enemy off and avoid combat on Perleoni soil. And you knew that too, you are in the War council afterall. We fullfilled those goals. I see no more barbarians plaguing lands of Perdan and until you decided to venture into the unknown again, like a hotheaded highborn fool, no combat took place beyond the border. I hope you do realise the consequences of your actions.

Firstly, you have nearly caused a diplomatic incident that could have seriously hampered our relations with Perleone. And secondly, you are responsible for the unnecesary deaths of your men. Good and loyal men are hard to come by, and you can take my word on that, and even harder to maintain."

It grates him to be called a fool, a hot-headed one at that, and Oliver was about to shout what he thought about that idea back at Sir Jacelyn. Then he reminds himself the irony of it.

Instead he tosses his head with a scowl, flipping some of his long hair out of his face, and gives the men in camp farther behind the two of them a rather contemptuous look. His men. "This lot? I left my actual elites back home, it was only recently I hired these useless farmers and laborers. I never meant to keep these long. They will all die for the glory of Perdan eventually, in some way or another—then I'd just hire some more. If I did have my elites though, I could have beaten the barbarians completely, and Duke Poe wouldn't be sending his furious letters our way."

His nose wrinkles further at the sight of them. "I can not think of a more honorable fate for them to die trying to take back the land stolen from us."

"Besides." He forces himself to take a deep breath, and knows eventually maybe he should apologize, as much as it pains him. The matter still makes him grit his teeth. "Even though the Imperatrix herself said it was fine for us to march on Aquabah here—our rightful land to begin with. Perhaps I was somewhat rash in... Not double checking that the army was behind me."

"Yes, a bit rash..."

Jacelyn's look hardened as pure hatred and disdain could now be felt from his eyes.

"The Imperatrix allowed the move, but only after you have already arrived. If something similar will happen again, I will have to look into it closer, but for now, perhaps read your order a few times to avoid missunderstandings. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to take care of my men."

Jacelyn showed his back to Olliver after only a slight head tilt, replacing his usual bow.

"Leandra, make this hotheaded posh cumberworld die for the glory of Perdan eventually or I'll kill him myself," he growled quietly, so that only his squire had heard him.

He stands resolute in sight of Jacelyn's disdainful stare, and watches him with a neutral expression. One that he had learned from his stern father, who had given him so many glares to learn from growing up. Once Jacelyn leaves, Oliver turns around to find Brynja approaching him with a questioning eyebrow, likely catching the other knight's look just then.

All Oliver can give her is a confused shrug of his shoulders. His little escapade couldn't have been that bad to earn such a hate-filled look. Was it? In the end, he even managed to get the last commander he annoyed to flirt and tease with him. Maybe he could do the same with this marshal.

Oliver smirks as he heads back towards the center of his camp, amused by his thoughts, and assuming his proud and straight-backed strut.
