Sermon to the Combined Congregation

Brigdha Dubhaine, Balancewalker

The basic tenets of the Flow of the Balance are very much concerned with the inner qualities, and as such probably the easiest way to advance our understanding is contemplative exercise. I find my centre in the practice of the bow, though others have encountered it in the heat of furious melee or the calm of the cloister. Whichever path we choose, we find ourselves mirrored in its movements and only by breaking past this illusion of identity can we perceive the Lilith Within. There at the core of our being we find the merest hint of that other being in whose image all is created.

One thing I must say as word of caution: the adept must have discipline to survive the great forces which a personal encounter with the Balance can and will unleash. I well remember the madness which overtook the Kinseys when they were leaders of our order. Filled with the raging maelstrom of the unleashed Lilith Within they became consumed with their own hatred and it destroyed them both along with many who followed them.

It does not have to be thus. In the long years our order has existed there have been many adepts who have learned to still the maelstrom and direct its energies wisely. The old Lions of Fontan were a sub-order of knights who did just this and whose incredible deeds still stand unmatched and peerless, both in their victories and in their chivalry. This is the stream I myself follow.

But do not think we are called to be ascetics, unless asceticism is our personal inclination. The Flow grows stronger through mindful action, not the inaction which so many false religions teach. Wealth and power will flow naturally to the adept not because of their sacrifices or because of their hunger for such things, but because the adept chooses to give others wealth and power. Indeed neither matters the least jot when one attains balance, for the true master knows all too well that he is but a servant!

So in summary I would say that the best way to advance in our understanding of the Flow is to carry through the deeds of our daily lives mindfully and with clear intent.
