Parve Waroe could hardly believe his luck. He had just killed one short sturdy monster and searched its lair to find the Dragon-Scale Gauntlets of the Kings, and was congratulating himself on a job well done, when he heard a noise behind him. He turned quickly to see another beast, similar to the one he'd just killed, waking from its slumber in the back of the lair. Parve was tired from the recent fight, but he saw he had the benefit of surprise. He whipped out his dagger, still covered in the blood of the first monster, and added to it the blood of this second monster as he thrust the knife into the same spot on the neck as had proved so successful just minutes before.

There was a short struggle which left Parve exhausted and the monster dead. Parve grinned, and went deeper into the lair to where this second monster had been sleeping. He soon discovered that it had been sleeping on top of a book - probably used as some sort of pillow. It was an odd book. Dark, bloodstained, and covered in symbols that looked less than wholly friendly. He read through the first page or two, before closing it quickly, deciding that this book demanded an interest in evil that he was unsure he wanted to posess. He pondered what to do with it, whether to read it or sell it or burn it, while he further admired his new gauntlets.
