As the daimons' fireballs hit the monstrous troops, the least disciplined of them quickly retreat into an writthing mass, taller monsters climbing on the four-legged ones, tearing apart the flesh of their own kind trying desperately to get away from the fire.
One who follows the struggle of Epic and the Daimon Lords would quickly forget this useless pack, but one who followed it would have noticed a lone man-like pale figure mounted on a horse entering the fray, seemingly calmly, or maybe rather in a kind of drugged stupor, for no man could remain calm at this sight. The man goes in a straight line in the middle of the pack, hitting those monsters that hit him, sometimes disappearing in the mass of fleeing flesh, but always keeping his straight line.
Somewhat, in a way no one saw well enough to recount, the man gets out of the pack alive, and holding something he did not have entering, the Emerald-Studded Nightblade of Parrying.
