The gem was found in one of the monster exermination travels of Cellius . He thought that it might be the key to the original monster infestation of the region.

Purchased by Sir Ayrl Huntsmaster, Viscount of Maraba, in hopes using the gem to ward off the periodic monster attacks suffered by Maraba.

The Gem shone brightly during the war with the Falkirks; despite a failed attack against Madina and another failed landing in Lugagun , those who saw the Gem recognized it from the stories told by those who witnessed those actions, and Ayrl's fame increased.

During the Falkirk war, Ayrl entrusted the Gem to Morganna for repair, as age had reduced the stones worth to perhaps a quarter of its original value. Morganna had trouble finding a sage, and the Gem nearly fell apart. She managed to repair it slightly before being summoned by the Fissoa Verminator's guild to scout the Falkirks, entrusting the Gem temporarily to Skynderbrau, Guide of the Verminators.
