Velax frowns as he slowly walks down Temple Road toward the Temple of the Adgarhin to the west of the city. He and his unit were on a patrol for any Arcachonian solders that might have escaped the battle, but the young noble's attentions were obviously elsewhere.

"My lord?" says Captain Kael, pacing alongside Velax. "What is that you have there?"

Velax looks up and blinks, as if surprised to see Kael, then lifts up the object in his hands. "Oh! Captain...it's something I found in the ruins of a small shrine on the outskirts of Enlod. It appeared to have been crushed by falling masonry from the breach in the walls and I found this small book sticking out from the pile of rubble. I almost would have sworn it was glowing..." Suddenly he turns to the captain and gestures excitedly. "Say...do you think it's one of those magic books?"

Kael raises his eyebrows. "I very much doubt it, my lord. You don't often find something that rare lying around on the ground."

The young lord's faces falls and he looks down at the book, crestfallen. "I guess you're right. But...this book is...odd. Look at this. It's just the same phrase repeated over and over and over again for more than 300 pages." He closes the book and shows the cover to the captain. "And look at this. It's called the 'Cursed Compendium of Haste'. What in the Far East does that mean?"

Kael shakes his head and reaches for the book. "I have no idea, but it does look strange. Perhaps you should let me..."

But Velax doesn't hear him. "Maybe if I read this phrase something will happen..." The lord stops suddenly in the middle of the road and his unit follows suit. "Igo re...um, no...igi rel...no, that can't be it." He takes a deep breath and calms himself.

Then, throwing up his hands dramatically, he bellows, "IGO, REA, LLYF, AST!"

Nothing happens. Velax looks around, then lowers his hands and looks at the book. Kael does his unsuccessful best not to grin, and the young lord sighs.

"Well, that was anticlimac-" Velax takes a step forward and disappears. Kael blinks while behind him several soldiers call out in surprise. "Where the hell...? Fan out, find him now!" Kael barks.

The captain turns as he hears a faint cry on the wind. It sounds like, "Here...over here..."

Turning toward it, Kael can just spot a tiny figure on a hill about a league from the road, jumping and waving. Gathering the unit together, he quick marches them to the hill, where he finds a pale but obviously ecstatic Velax grinning at him.

"I guess it is magic after all, eh captain?"
