Finding

Monsters were roaming freely in the external villages of the Axewildian badlands. It wasn't hard for the advy to find some monsters lair, with a large group of them inside. The woman tied her dark hair high, grabbed her new short sword, and fought. Each monster slain, she felt more alive, and the battle rage entered her mind. Finally she was facing the alpha monster, the leader of the pack. He seemed like a large wolf, the four claws gripped on the floor, and the mouth drooling with blood thirst. It was a hard fight, and they rolled on the floor together, Tai fully awaken and avoiding the bite to her neck, the deadly bite. Finally, the creature seemed to hesitate for a moment, when the fight was brought to the cave's bottom, and the wench managed to stab its throat.

Scavenging around, a few minutes later, she found, among the monster's loot, some silver coins and a brilliant object that showed to be a dirty and torn, but finely crafted, book. She just wished the sage hadn't gone away with the sunrise... perhaps he could tell her more about the object. It did seem an unique item.

After searching the area for 2 hours, following trails and noises, you finally encounter a large group of monsters.

You notice that they have a leader, an alpha monster, a really big and ugly one, whatever you want to call it. The battle rages, you against the monsters. Your blows land true and you strike most of them down, while a few manage to flee. The big one is the last to fall, but after an exhausting fight you manage to take him down, too. In the lair of the big one, you find treasures worth a total of 1 gold, 10 silver. You also find a unique item among the loot, the "Brilliant Book of Life".

Repairs

Nina had three opportunities to repair the Brilliant Book of Life.

  • Nina was pursuing some monsters when an old man crossed her path and bumped into her. His teeth were very few in his mouth, his hair was dirty and his look to her food bag was hungry, but his hands showed callosities of an skilled artisan. They sat down and ate together, in a silence our wench didn't dare to break. After the meal was over, the old man took Nina's sack and started looking into it. Again, she didn't dare stopping him, not even when he took out the Book, a crystal globe, and smiled. With a gesture, the man made her turn around. She did, flabbergasted. Slowly, the stars started dancing in the sky above her, and, a moment later, she was being awaken by a smiling man and a repaired Book. The man vanished while Nina looked at his work of art. Small pieces of the globe had been entranced to the Book's cover, its pages were now shining with a brilliant and warm powder, and it seemed the Book had gained a new life. New condition: 67%
  • After the many miles walked towards Poryatu, her home, Nina stopped for the night in a small village of Nid Tek, and knocked at the door of the first house she could find. An old woman greeted her and welcomed her into the house for the night. During dinner, the woman told Nina of her gift, and that she might be able to repair one of the items Nina carried with her. The wench felt goosebumps up her arms. She hadn't told the woman about any items of her... smiling, Miss Anilia told her it was part of her gift, and asked for the Book and some hair of a maiden. Nina blushed, took the two items from inside the sack, and handed them over. After a few hours, the woman came back, with a trembling book in her hands. Nina picked it up, and it seemed to shake on its own, thrilled with the new life that had been given to it. After a careful exam, the hunter noticed the hair had been used to reinforce the pages, delicately yet firmly sewing them to the cover. New condition: 75%
  • Nina was asleep when the Other One came to her and told her the Book had a destiny, and it would only be fulfilled in the hands of a very powerful lady of the southern Pian. The name was whispered to Nina's mind. It was a direct speech, so objective that Nina woke up and thought it had all been real. But the Other One wasn't there, just her shadow to guide Nina where she should go. Arriving to a small workshop, she called for the man inside. It was a middle-aged man, with a somewhat familiar look to his face. Showing him the Book among the other items, the man nodded. With the book and some boar tusks, he vanished to the back of the workshop. A few hours later, in which Nina felt life had been slowly drained from her, he returned, with a shiny Book and a piece of parchment. While Nina looked at his work, he closed the shop. The parchment contained complicated text, maybe explaining the origins of such interesting item, in a slightly irregular handwriting. Examining the Book, though, Nina was utterly surprised. It was now written in its cover "The Brilliant Book of Life", and the internal pages all had a few new symbols, alternating in their borders. Still wondering how the man had managed to write with the boar tusks, the hunter continued her journey. New condition: 88%

Disappearance

On the early June, our adventurer was extremely busy in Lupa Lapu, killing the beasts she could find, together with Geremiah Tator. The hunt had been great for a few days, now, and they had found quite a few interesting items in the monster's lairs, not to mention silver coins. Tai had also learned to skin the creatures, for their leather was extremely good to protect against the cold winter that roamed the land. When the night of the 4th or 5th day fell, she left the small village for a lonely hunt. Tracking down a few small groups of monsters, the wench fought, sacked, skinned and got stronger. Joy felt her bones, for she was doing what she liked the most, while her eyes and ears guided her through the woods until the next group of victims.

Unfortunately, that wasn't a group, but a horde. The woman killed most of the creatures, but was, at last, bested in combat by the alpha male. After receiving a deep scratch in her belly, Tai fell to the floor and waited for the final blow. She counted, one, two... three... And she was still alive. Opening one eye, the wench saw the monsters leaning over her backpack. They riped it open. In a reflex, she screamed.

The creatures looked at her, puzzled for a moment, a moment long enough for Tai to jump, grab the bag's cords and run. The creatures were right on her feet, and she knew she'd never make it... and then a small bump. Something had fallen from the bag. She heard grunting sounds from behind and knew they were fighting for whatever it was, but kept walking for one or two more minutes, until she fell, unconscious, in the ravine's floor.

In her dreams, the Other One was yelling so high it was shaking her bones. Then, Nina knew. It was her book that had fallen back there... Before she could feel anger or emptiness, the delusion changed to show a young man's face.
