Abington/Edicts

Abington has amongst its legal strata various Edicts, which are proclamations made with the force of the Law, and which are made in addition or addendum to the Writ of the Law.

Authorization Edict

  • Infiltrators: From now on, you will take NO action that is OUTSIDE of Abington's borders, without the authorization and approval of the High Marshal via the Military Council.
  • Traders: From now on, you will take NO action that is outside of Abington's borders, without the authorization and approval of the Royal Treasurer.

The Authorization Edict was issued (Dec 16, 2006) by Arch Priest Gauihu to address concerns regarding the independent actions of infiltrators as well as traders outside of Abington's borders. Although leaving the realm's borders without permission was already considered a crime under the Writ of the Law, the Authorization Edict made the punishment much more serious by the promise of immediate banishment to those who were found in violation. It also had the result of attempting to centralize power for the ruling government.

Religious Security Edict

  • 1. Temples and shrines dedicated to the religions of Evgenism and Darkanism shall not be allowed to stand within Abington's borders.
  • 2. Priests of the religions of Evgenism and Darkanism shall not be allowed within Abington's borders.
  • 3. Membership in the religions of Evgenism and Darkanism shall be considered a High Crime and punishable accordingly.

The Religious Security Edict was issued (April 14, 2007) and was Abington's counter to the growing threat of foreign, state-sponsored religions. Without endorsing a national religion of Abington, this allowed Abington to control the threat of strange and foreign faiths from disturbing the already tenuous balance of religions extant within Abington.

Religious Domain Edict

  • 1. A Lord or Lady of an Abington Region has the right to declare that Priests of a specific Religion are not permitted to preach to or otherwise influence the vassals of that Region, nor to construct Shrines there.
  • 2. If a Lord or Lady so chooses to deny a certain faith as above, he or she must first submit that declaration publically as part of that region's Declaration of Religious Domain.
  • 3. If a Priest then violates that Lord or Lady's declaration, he may be arrested by that Lord or Lady (or by his vassals) and held in prison at the discretion of the Judge.
  • 4. If a Priest continues to violate such declarations, further punishments including banishment may be handed out.
  • 5. No Lord or Lady may forbid all Religions from his Region, nor may he or she forbid the mere traveling-through or harmless presence of any Abington noble.
  • 6. This Edict shall not contradict or supercede any other Edict. Priests (and members) from outlawed religions in the Religious Security Edict are still subject to the harshest treatment as charged with High Crimes, regardless of whether they have the permission of a Lord or Lady.

Declarations of Religious Domain

These declarations are subject to change if there is a change in regional lordship or a superceding declaration by that region's lord.
