The TattleMaster is BattleMaster's first, and only, OOC newspaper dedicated to discussions about the game of BattleMaster itself. Here you will find information regarding bugfixes, new features, changes in game mechanics, and probably even a few FAQs and interviews.

Community Manager AppointedSeptember 4, 2009
Tom posted the following login message today regarding the official appointment of Ethan Lee Vita as the new Community Manager for BattleMaster. Ethan's main task will be as an interface between the dev team and the community, primarily through the Discussion List. If you have any questions or comments, head over to the List and send them on through.

Community Manager Announced
Today, it is my pleasure to announce that from this day on, BattleMaster will have a Community Manager. The CMs job is to handle the interface between the player community and the development team. I'm very happy that we have found Ethan Lee Vita as a volunteer for this position. Rob Croson will serve as his deputy, in case of absence.

The purpose of the Community Manager is to make sure that feature requests, general comments or complaints from the community are channeled more efficiently to the development team. In the past, many good requests or comments suffered from the fact that the mailing list is too noisy, or that the one writing it could not express himself too well. The Community Manager will take up these proposals, ask for clarification, sort out some issues, and then present a well-crafted change request to the development team.

The dev team is a small group of volunteers, and simply doesn't always have the time or energy to listen to everything. With improved quality of input, their motivation will go up and the amount of features implemented to the satisfaction of the community will rise along with it.

I think we've done a good and important step.

If you want to learn more, you will find the Community Portal to be a good place to start, and Ethan will manage it.

Testing Islands UpdatedAugust 18, 2009
A new batch of bug fixes and features has been sent to the testing islands. Bug fixes and features all the way up through Rev 4134 are now on testing. Some of the major points:
  • Enhanced trade settings page to help manage food, especially on islands with seasons
  • Ruined temples no longer function as temples at all
  • Ruined temples lose all gold in their treasuries at the next sunrise
  • Temples that cannot pay their maintenance cost from either the local or global treasuries will drop down in size, or close if already size 1
  • Ruined temples cannot be maintained, and fall apart when the next maintenance payment is due
  • Auto da Fe is now active. (See story below...)
  • If the regional income is too low to pay the maintenance costs for workshops and recruitment centers, they will suffer damage.
  • If a region's income is too low to pay militia, the militia may desert
Along with many other bug fixes...

Auto da fe ImplementedAugust 18, 2009
The long-awaited auto da fe option has been coded, and should be available on testing islands the next time the testing servers are updated. This feature could add some teeth to religions, allowing a priest to remove a lord who follows a different faith from their office.
