Layout questions

There are to be two "columns" of news for the paper. I am assuming that the larger column will be used for longer stories, and the smaller column for shorter, bullet-point-style items. (Although not necessarily bulleted, if you know what I mean.) The longer items will have places in the template for a title, date, story, and author's name/signature. The shorter items for only a date and news item. Does that sound about right for those items? --Indirik

Yes, that sounds pretty good. -- Gsklee 06:11, 10 July 2007 (CEST)

Also, do you envision the main root page The TattleMaster being the active story page, like the TRL, with old news being archived to subpages? Or should the root page just be an intro page, like the II, with each "issue" being a separate subpage? (I prefer the root page to be the active page, but that's just my preference.) --Indirik

I think the root page should be used to display most recent news entries, so, the TRL way. -- Gsklee 06:11, 10 July 2007 (CEST)

Looks spectacular =) -- Gsklee 14:52, 11 July 2007 (CEST)

Thanks. Is there anything else you think you might need? Any additional templates for special types of announcements, stories with different types of content? --Indirik

Content

Very cool thing. I was waiting for the first OOC newspaper to show up. If you want an exclusive interview or something like that... yell. :-) --Tom 20:20, 13 July 2007 (CEST)

I think Gias is going to be doing the writing on this one. I think he just wanted help getting things set up to start off. I'm not sure if he wanted assistance with articles or not. I'd be happy to help, if he wants it. --Indirik
Certainly, more editors would mean less tasks for each. -- Gsklee 10:28, 14 July 2007 (CEST)
Looks neat! OOC Habap 00:55, 19 July 2007 (CEST)

New Header?

Well, I am not sure whether we need to make a new, "formal", header to replace this current one. I think it's looking good. -- Gsklee 16:35, 21 July 2007 (CEST)

Well I was fiddling around with a load of designs on photoshop and in the end. I came up with a pretty simple one I've gotten pretty addicted to for some reason.

OOooh, I couldn't help but add a pretty glossy BM earth I made!!!

Roleplay Color?

I just tested this on Beluaterra... the roleplaying message type didn't have a different color... are you sure this is implemented?

It usually takes a little time to get implemented. My guess it the main turn change is when these things take effect. I too tested it without a result, wanted to see the colour for myself, since I can't seem to find the bug tracker request and the search fuction doesn't work for me... -Chénier 23:56, 21 July 2007 (CEST)
Although this is called a "news"paper, whatever are being reported here may just often be ahead of the actual happening of the events. -- Gsklee 12:11, 22 July 2007 (CEST)
I can understand that, but it seems like the feature request on the bugtracker simply vanished... I can't find it anymore to check the colour. -Chénier 16:44, 22 July 2007 (CEST)

The default view for the bugtracker is to filter out Closed reports. In order to see a report that has been Closed, you need to set "Hide Status:" to None. --Indirik
Haha, I realised a few days back that I had set my filter to "religion". ;)
Didn't realise that it stayed on even after closing the window. -Chénier 20:35, 24 July 2007 (CEST)

Stripping Titles

Actually, that change has been in the code for quite a while already. The bug is probably a misunderstanding, the guy thought the ruler couldn't refuse duel challenges, but the reality is that two duel challenges (death and surrender) are automatically created. --Tom 16:41, 26 July 2007 (CEST)

I guess it just takes time for some of these to get noticed, especially if the feature is rarely used, or it isn't announced anywhere. --Indirik 16:58, 26 July 2007 (CEST)
Well sorry, this is neither a new feature nor was the key point inside that bug report got fully covered. I have re-written it and hope you won't mind; this is after all a newspaper and we don't cover up old things if there's no something new happening to it. -- Gsklee 03:40, 28 July 2007 (CEST)

Praise for the TattleMaster

Thank you for this excellent idea - having a source other than the BM list (where reliable news tend to get drowned in rumors and sheer volume) and ingame OOC remarks is a huge relief! I am looking forward to your reportings! TanSerrai 10:07, 3 August 2007 (CEST)

  • I agree that this is an excellent idea; this way, I can find out more about new features that I may not have noticed or tried out. Good stuff. --V2Blast 09:18, 22 August 2007 (CEST)
Ditto. This one's getting bookmarked right beside the BM login page. Nice work. --Calvin November t/c on 03:56, 3 October 2007 (CEST)

Archives ?

At what point should old news be moved into the Archives? --Tom 23:00, 19 August 2007 (CEST)

Perhaps when we enter September. -- Gsklee 15:29, 21 August 2007 (CEST)
September is what I figured, too. Keep the current month, and the prior full month on the page. That leaves plenty of time for everyone to see things. I can create the first archive page. It will take some manual linking in order to get things working properly. Once the first page is done, the following pages should automatically link to the previous and next archive pages. Assuming I made the templates correctly... --Indirik 16:36, 21 August 2007 (CEST)

Comments

September 10, 2007 Bug #3577 - Ruler elections are not working properly. When a new ruler is to be elected, the results are not announced, and the new ruler does not get appointed. this counts not only for the ruler but also other positions, see bugtracker. --Vlad 16:47, 10 September 2007 (CEST)

Are you sure this is true? I was just elected as Judge on BT 4 days ago. Both the mentions of Banker in the related bugs seem to appear to be problems with appointing a new banker. I don't want to report this as being an election problem with the other council positions unless it is confirmed to also affect their election. If you can confirm it, then you should make an entry on the bug tracer about it. --Indirik 17:10, 10 September 2007 (CEST)

I am sorry, I thought It was already on there, I'll have to make a report of it then. --Vlad 19:16, 10 September 2007 (CEST)

Someone just added something about being unable to appoint a general in a Republic. I really would like to know if it applies to electing judges. One of my characters was just about to step down as Judge. I'm going to wait until after this bug is fixed, just to make sure! --Indirik 19:45, 10 September 2007 (CEST)

Custom Titles

I'd assume it's also available, but I haven't seen it anywhere. Can the ruler also decide the voting weights? You know, as in equal/prestige/rank/etc.? -Chénier 04:34, 12 October 2007 (CEST)

The custom titles is a ruler option available under the Command tab for the rulers on testing islands. It's called "Government system... - update how your realm works (titles, etc.)" So far, there is no option to specify the voting weights. --Indirik 04:50, 12 October 2007 (CEST)
Think it was overlooked/forgotten, or that's intentionnal? I'd bring it to the D-List, but I try to avoid the thing when I can, I've given up using it properly half a year ago, atleast. -Chénier 04:56, 12 October 2007 (CEST)
just use thunderbird or whatever mail client to subscribe to the newsgroups. I read off the list on the browser and fire off replies with tbird. --Fodder 09:47, 12 October 2007 (CEST)
