Formatting

Please format your comments the same as everyone else. Otherwise it will quickly become unreadable. Your name should come immediately after everything you wrote. e.g.

I think that turnips should
be considered a fruit. They are tasty and
delicious, it only makes sense. -- ~~~~~

Note that 4 tildes will expand to your name and the date, 3 tildes will expand to just your name. 2 tildes will expand to simply the date.

You can also use one or more colons (:) in front of your paragraph to indent the text. More than one asterisk (*) will indent the bullet.

Why

Here's why I made it this way: Having the questions show up in the TOC might be useful, but it blows the TOC out of proportion. With many items, it becomes simply unuseable. --Tom 20 July 2005 10:42 (CEST)

Would it be appropriate to go through the FAQ and link to pages that explain those sections of the game mechanic in-depth? I used the FAQ to some extent when writing the articles on Taxes and Battle. On the other hand, I'm not sure that it's a good idea to fill the FAQ with links. --Dolohov 22 July 2005 18:08 (CEST)
Some links for important topics would be useful, but not too many. --Tom 24 July 2005 22:18 (CEST)

Added two FAQ's to the Combat section.

Before Tom announced his 5-Step plan, I had begun working on a FAQ for questions that come up often on the mailing list. I've posted two of my FAQ's to the Combat section. --Mark 12 August 2005 00:43 (CEST)

Spanning Continents

Should we add something to the effect of, "Neither Guilds nor any other in-game organization, now or at any time in the future, will be able to span multiple continents"? I've seen various variations on questions like that a lot. --Anaris 6 February 2006 19:28 (CET)

Uh. We have a guild that is starting to sort of span across multiple continents. This is against game mechanics? I didn't know, and no-one told me. We're setting up almost identical guilds on the other continents, sibling guilds,on the same layouts... Unless you mean IG the guilds will no be able to communicate? But then so far we just posted suggestions to each other on the talk pages of the guild page. It works fine. Brilliant RP, as well. --The1exile 18:09, 1 June 2006 (CEST)

Recruitable?

I noticed on several scouting reports for cities other than the capital it says "Troops recruitable from this region" and then a list of troops. What does that mean? If we can only recruit troops at the capital, then who are these guys recruitable by? Regional commanders who want to form militias? If someone abandons their troops in a capital, can those be recruited by other troop leaders? Thanks. --F1r3br4nd 22 February 2006 01:00 (CET)

This means that, the region has a RC that the region Lord built. That centre then recruits men and trains them to be soldiers. They then are sent off to the capitol. It is just that it is there to tell everyone that the place has an Infantry centre for example. It also helps for when you are planning to expand into Neigbours territories, to remove those troops from their selection and gives them to your realm. ScottSabin 18:39, 1 June 2006 (CEST)

More Questions

Here's some questions I had recently and couldn't find the answers in the Wiki. When I have the time I'll figure out whether this means that some pages need to be improved, more pages need to be written, or something put in the FAQ, but in the meantime so I don't lose them I'll put them here. If anyone else would like to find a home for these, you are welcome to it.

  • How can I transfer Gold to another player?
I think the answer to this may be in the Wiki in bits and pieces but nowhere is the whole process laid out.
Go to a city with a bank. Go to Actions > Financial actions. Convert some gold into bonds (You must have at least 50 gold to convert it to bonds.) From Financial actions, select Transfer bonds (not sure of the exact wording for this one). Select the desired person, click the button. --Indirik 15:30, 19 May 2006 (CEST)
  • What can I do while wounded or captured? What happens to my troops?
When wounded you cant do anything. When captured you can talk to other cell mates, read you letters if you can bribe the guards. There are various options. Hero's can try and break free. ScottSabin 15:07, 19 May 2006 (CEST)
Of course, infiltrators can break free too, but I don't have an infiltrator character, so someone might need to expand on that. --V2Blast 20:36, 21 May 2006 (CEST)
  • What do the various values of status on the TL report mean? Specifically return is cryptic.
Return measn they are coming back from being wounded or at a tourney, it just means they will be back in action the next turn. ScottSabin 15:07, 19 May 2006 (CEST)
  • In region reports what does unit size in parenthesis mean?
That is how many wounded are in the unit. ScottSabin 15:07, 19 May 2006 (CEST)
The question is regarding region reports (i.e. scout reports). If a unit has the number of troops listed in parentheses in a scout report, it means that all of the men in that unit are wounded. --Indirik 15:30, 19 May 2006 (CEST)
  • After how many days of inactivity does a character with a Banker-position get autopaused?
Like with any council position, I believe it's 5 days. --The1exile 12:12, 16 February 2007 (CET)

--JeffW 01:19, 19 May 2006 (CEST)

  • Why can't my character message Foreign Rulers?
Had this question myself, and then saw it on the bugtracker, so thought it worthwhile to get onto a page or list somewhere. You must have 5 prestige to do that. --Jmadsen 02:35, 31 August 2008 (CEST)

HOWTO ?

In addition to the above: Maybe we should add a "How to..." or "How do I ... ?" page? There are certainly enough questions in this direction to justify its own page. --Tom 15:04, 25 April 2007 (CEST)

How do I be an elf?

Under the "Accounts and Characters" section, it mentions that you can't be an elf. This is not correct, as characters from the realm of Sirion are elves. This is mentioned elsewhere on the web site, so presumably it's okay to mention it here as well. -- Corwyn 22:17, 16 October 2009 (UTC)

They are grandfathered in. My interpretation is that those roleplaying themselves(in Sirion) as elves before the rule can continue to do so(meaning they slowly die out and that most Sirionites are humans protecting elven lands). Others interpret the grandfathering as anyone in Sirion is allowed to. --Ethan Lee Vita (Talk), Editor and Community Manager 22:34, 16 October 2009 (UTC)
Ah, I didn't realize about that interpretation. My apologies. If it helps, I can confirm that recent players that join Sirion have roleplayed as being elves, and I haven't seen anyone inform them that they shouldn't. But I suppose that this doesn't set an "official ruling", outside of just being a defacto one. In any case, I won't press the issue. Cheers, Corwyn 18:46, 18 October 2009 (UTC)
