The Stronghold of Tahgalez has weathered the desert sands for as long as it's people can remember; numerous sieges have seen it's dual walls, and only a few realms have claimed it as their own. It's most recent change of hands was performed by Duke Mao of Varyamo Nolvo, who changed allegiances to Heen and singlehandedly brought the fall of his former realm.

Early history

Back in the earliest recorded history of the area, the people of the Tahga (as the tribesmen had referred to themselves for untold generations) built this citadel (or "Lez" in their desert tongue) as stronghold and capital. Their tribal elders, chief among whom was Sing Tahga, had tired of the depradations of the monster hordes that ravaged the badlands to the south and raided their camps as well.

Legend has it that his brother, Bruga Tahga, spoke eloquently of the beauty of the ocean shores to the north and west, encouraging his tribemates to simply pack up their belongings and migrate there to avoid such troubles. Sing Tahga was no speaker, but a man of both strong will and stronger fists. What later became termed 'official histories' say that Sing Tahga was inspired by the beauty of the mountains and gained a sudden eloquence in which he argued successfully that building a Lez (citadel) in the mountains would provide haven and comfort to the Tahga. Other documents, found hidden in Keffa suggest that his only eloquence was his phenomenally quick use of his fists to stifle the dissent.

Bruga Tahga does appear fitfully in census documents of Latlan, though variously as a cobbler, a watchman, or an inhabitant of the dungeons. Apparently, he no longer spoke so well, nor walked upright, and drank quite frequently.

Many of the people of modern Tahgalez claim descent from Sing Tahga, though those same histories record him as childless and discuss the brutal civil war that followed his death.

Disputed Lordship

Shortly after becoming part of Heen, it came under the control of then Royal Treasurer of Heen, Medium. Arch Priest Kagurati was very much against this. He argued that this violated King Scion the Skilled's verbal ruling that no noble shall hold more than one position, since Medium wasn't required to step down from his Royal Treasurer position. The Arch Priest withdrew his argument under threat of being stripped of his nobility.

After a short absence of Medium, his titles of Royal Treasurer and Duke of Tahgalez were declared invalid and open to new appointment. Kagurati became the new Duke of Tahgalez, and in accordance with government rules, stepped down from his position of Arch Priest.

Religion

After becoming Duke, Kagurati saw to the construction of two temples; one of the Path of the Great Dragon, and one of Qyrvaggism. A third temple was considered, one of the Valentic Order, but was rejected due to conflict between Valentics and Qyrvaggists. Sometime there after, he saw to the founding and construction of a new guild, the Citadel Reserve.

Defenses

Just as the Third Invasion of Beluaterra was beginning, Duke Kagurati saw to the repair and upgrade of the fortifications of the city. This upgrade significantly improved both interior and exterior walls, as well brought the regions fortification rating to that of Stronghold (level 4). Since then, one wave of daemons did move through the city, seriously damaging the fortifications to around 50% strength.

The Next Duke

Shortly after these daemons moved through, Duke Kagurati came under council scrutiny due to various matter (most not relating to the region). Such as his several references to the realm Varyamo Nolvo, the former blood enemy of Heen, selling food against several clear orders of the Royal Treasurer and disobedience to mandatory votes, to name a few of the addressed matters. Kagurati had had enough of the realm after that and left, to join Mesh. By majority vote, Jadine Baraedor, Baroness of Hcallow was chosen. The appointment of Jadine was delayed until the army returned from another campaign.

University

A university was founded in Tahgalez, using the largest building in the stronghold - the Old Palace of Varyamo Nolvo. Heenite historians have been moving treasured documents there and seeking out others from nearby lands.
