Valentic Tensions
+
Interpretation by Jefferson Vita
Tensions rise and fall between melite Old Guard and Valentic lords. The Valentics attempt to raise the Valentic Order to the status of official state religion to replace their parent faith, the Old Gods. This would have granted them the position of Augur on the Senate. The motion fails and angers many.

Prince Kokomaro Rogala, former King of Valentia, attempted to acquire funds from the State Treasury for the construction of tournament grounds in Unger, but was denied by Quaestor Morgan Darby. In revenge, Kokomaro proposed the Office of Quaestor be subject to terms and ordered his former lords to vote in favour of the motion. The motion was defeated because the Valentic lords didn't read the voting laws and didn't vote on the appropriate days (friday, saturday, and sunday). Many Valentics complained about the complex legal red tape though they hadn't bothered to learn anything.

In an effort to dispel tension the Old Guard asked about the Valentic culture and beliefs. The Valentic Lords refused to answer, believing the interest to be an attempt to assimilate them. A few did open up, revealing that their constant worry was because they had no culture beyond their faith. Fearing the rapid loss of their identity in the face of the overwhelming melite presence, the Valentics adopt an isolated and hostile view to any attempt at cultural exchange going so far as to request a separate message group, or guild, for Valentics only so they would not need to speak with the Old Guard any more then necessary.

Kokomaro then began raising complex issues and ignoring the replies of others while the other Valentic Lords became increasingly silent on the Senate. Hagalaz Futhark was dispatched by Prince Kokomaro to recruit knights from the other nations. He offers riches and rewards to all, but demands absolute obedience to the former king. The Senate makes reparations to the other nations, easing the insult, but are still embarrassed.

New Thalmarkin King
Queen Krimhild of Thalmarkin retires, to be replaced by King Piru Petteri Cosula.

Futhark Controversy
Hagalaz Futhark dueled Senator Premysl Otakar to the death over a 100 gold bounty upon Hagalaz Futhark. In reality, it was placed by Fey Twix. The duelers did not organize their legal affairs in advance and as a result the punishment Hagalaz faced for killing Premysl was death. Fey Twix was praetor at this time. Hagalaz contested the ruling, claiming it was all a ploy to punish her for the past embarrassment and that Premysl would not have faced the same fate had Hagalaz died instead. She also demanded the region of Winifael vacated by Senator Premysl's death.

Despite the clear nature of the case, the Valentic Lords sided with Hagalaz, siting this ruling as yet another attempt by the Old Guard to assimilate the Valentic people and use the complex melite culture to punish them. The debate lasts many days with Consul Aldo coming dangerously close to breaking the law himself with his attempts to find a solution without bloodshed.

Praetor Fey finally weighed the evidence and arguments and pronounced a sentence. Hagalaz is to be put to death for the killing of Senator Premysl. However an unusual interpretation of a different law placed the blame for the crime on the head of the lord of both parties, Duke Kokomaro of Unger, and as a result he was to suffer the death penalty. When word of the decision reached the realm, the Senate contested the final verdict and the appeal was granted, freeing Kokomaro of all responsibility. Not having read news of the appeal, Kokomaro panicked and, fearing for his life, ceded the Valentic province, recreating the kingdom of Valentia.

Northern City-States
The city of Sandefur seceded from Thalmarkin under the new Dictator Lemon Tree to form Lemundia. Reeling from the sudden events that destabilized the northlands, the Senate declared that Valentia could exist as a free and independent nation provided two conditions were met. First, that Hagalaz was extradited to face justice. Second, that Orde was granted to Melhed as payment for all the trouble the Valentics had caused. Valentia refused the demands, helping Hagalaz to escape to the south. They offered Orde only if Melhed would assist in invading the weakened Thalmarkin. Melhed refused the deal and moves to claim Orde, despite the efforts of the Valentic army.

Invasion
Undead and Monsters began to appear more frequently. Undead and Monster forces asked for five artifacts. Human nations refused to assist. Artifacts are collected and two bastions are suggested to house them: Agyr and Reeds. Vigorous debate resulted in Reeds being selected and Valhalla Valentine, leader of Vlaanderen, chosen to protect them.

The daimons arrived, speaking a strange language. Early human attacks against what would become known as Screech Daimons result in terrible losses. King Kokomaro withdrew from the world stage and his people become ignorant of the growing inhuman threat. Sint, Heen, and Vlaanderen side with the monsters under Big Fang. All others but Valentia and Khthon side with the undead under the Summoner. After extensive debates and interrogations about the purpose of each inhuman faction, Melhed sided with the Undead. Valhalla Valentine of Vlaanderen attempted to switch alliegance to the undead. Summoner refuses and the other nations are infuriated when Valhalla hands the artifacts over to various powers in exchange for protection.

Netherworld
The primary gate to the Netherworld opens in Jobo's Mouth, putting pressure on Sint. Sint struggles to push back the daimons, so Heen and Melhed send aid. Bocephus, Pontifex Primus of Sint, teaches the daimons how to talk and tries to use diplomacy to halt their attacks. Raids by the undead strike Heen and Valentia in an effort to gain equipment for more soldiers. A priest of Sint notices that one daimon is called Hastur, one of the lieutenants of their god, Hemaglobe. Faced with the overwhelming strength of the daimons, Sint sides with them, declaring them to be servants of their god and thus masters of Sint. Hasture, Yellow King, and others join Sint and demand the destruction of all non-believers. The Dragon daimons are first mentioned as guards to Hasture.

Kokomaro Commits Suicide
King Kokomaro takes his own life, possibly out of shame for his actions. King Quillen the Blamer took the throne.

Vlaandaran Betrays Humanity
Suffering greatly at the daimons' hands as they try to wrestle the artifacts away, Nymatal the Betrayer has Vlaanderan surrender and join the daimons. Arcane the daimon joins Vlaanderen as a regional lord, opening a gate in Zisswii.

Melite Affairs
Anubis Darkfire died in battle against the daimons while defending Agyr. Experiments on daimon corpses revealed many vital clues. Unger, capitol of Valentia, revolts from Valentic rule. King Quillen blamed Melhed. Valentia imploded shortly after Arcane took control of Vlaanderan.

Daimons Betray Vlaanderan
Arcane overthrew the Vlaanderen government declaring itself a living god.

Daimon Pacifism
Old Grehk succeeded in sending an adventurer to the other world. They returned with news that the daimons need to fight twice a day. The news was ignored by most realms. Melhed adopted pacifism in response to the news. Other nations burn while Melhed is half-heartedly attacked.

Afternoon
Ancestor Legions
Melhed is provided a ritual by Summoner to go with Summoner's Ring. Plergoth, holders of the ring, don't trust Melhed and try their own ritual. It fails. The Abyss Kingdom succumbs to final destruction(related to ring failure? unknown...).

Fronen Dies
Prime Minister Grego the Honourable refuses to surrender his people to the daimons as Sint and Vlaanderen had. Fronen falls to the daimons.

Aldo Taunts Daimons
Annoyed by the mind-numbing boredom, Consul Aldo demands the daimons invade Melhed to give them something to do. The daimons refuse to fight the melite military or meet with melite scholars.

Noting that only inhuman eyes could see the gates, the eyes of Victor were carefully extracted from his corpse and fitted to glasses. Studying the previously mentioned runes on the Jedinchel gate, it was noted that though this configuration might strengthen daimons, the reverse might weaken them. Tests were done on the daimons of Rafferty, and when shown to be true, the formula was inscribed on every banner, shield, arrow, and sword. Melite armies become known as daimonbane.

Daimons destroy the home of the monsters, claiming Melhed revealed the location. Seeking revenge, the monsters attack the heart of the monster hunter organization. Melhed converses with the monsters in their native tongue in an effort to understand, but gain little knowledge.
