Timeline

Dawn of the Age

  • King Julma Jaune dies in a duel with the duke of Fengen, King Lemon Tree returns to the throne
  • King Lemon Tree retires, to be replaced by Queen Krimhild
  • Prince Pholtus is slain in a duel with the founder and leader of the Church of Estahs, Prins Simon
  • Prince Pholtus reveals the plot by Prins Simon to destroy Valentia, the Church of Estahs suffers a fatal blow and Valentians are grimly pleased when Prins Simon kills himself
  • Tensions in Melhed between Old Guard and the Valentic Lords rises and falls.
    • The Valentics attempt to raise the Valentic Order to the status of official state religion, replacing the originator of their faith, the Old Gods, as Augur on the Senate. The motion is not successful angering many.
    • Prince Kokomaro attempts to acquire funds for the construction of tournament grounds in Unger but is denied by the Quaestor Morgan. In revenge Kokomaro proposes the Quaestor position be a term office and orders his former lords to vote in favour. The motion is defeated in largely because the Valentic Lords did not read the voting laws and thus did not know that votes are held every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Many Valentics complain about complex legal red tape, though they had not even bothered to learn anything.
    • In an effort to dispel tension the Old Guard ask about the Valentic culture and beliefs. The Valentic Lords refuse to answer, believing the interest to be an attempt to assimilate them. A few do open up, revealing that their constant worry is because they had no culture beyond their faith.
    • Fearing the rapid loss of their identity in the face of the overwhelming Melhed presence the Valentics adopt an isolated and hostile view to any attempt at cultural exchange going so far as to request a separate message group, or guild, for Valentic only so they would not need to speak with the Old Guard any more then necessary.
    • Kokomaro begins raising complex issues and then ignores the replies of others while the other Valentic Lords become increasingly silent on the senate.
  • Hagalaz Futhark is dispatched by Prince Kokomaro to recruit knights from the other nations. Offers riches and rewards to all, but demands absolute obedience to the former King. The Senate makes reparations to the other nations, easing the insult, but are still embarrassed.
  • Queen Krimhild of Thalmarkin retires, to be replaced by King ___________
  • Hagalaz Futhark duels Premysl Otakar to the death over a 100 gold bounty actually placed by Fey Twix. The duellers do not organize their legal affairs in advance and as a result the punishment Hagalaz faced for killing Premysl is death.
  • Hagalaz contests the ruling, claiming it is all a ploy to punish her for past embarrassment, that Premysl would not have faced the same fate. She also demands the region of Winifel vacated by Senator Premysl’s death.
  • Despite clear nature of the case, the Valentic Lords side with Hagalaz, sighting this ruling as yet another attempt by the Old Guard to assimilate the Valentic people and use the complex Melhed culture to punish them. The debate lasts many days with Consul Aldo coming dangerously close to breaking the law himself with his attempts to find a solution without bloodshed.
  • Preator Fey finally weighs the evidence and arguments and pronounces sentence. Hagalaz is to be put to death for the killing of Senator Premysl. However an unusual interpretation of a different law placed the blame for the crime on the head of the lord of both parties, Duke Kokomaro of Unger and as a result he was to suffer the death penalty.
  • When word of the decision reached the realm, the senate contested the final verdict and the appeal was granted, freeing Kokomaro of all responsibility.
  • Not having read the news of the appeal Kokomaro panicked and, fearing for his life, ceded the Valentic province, recreating the kingdom of Valentia.
  • The city of Sandifur cedes from Thalmarkin, under the new Dictator Lemon Tree.
  • Reeling from the sudden events that destabilized northlands the Senate declared that Valentia could exist as a free and independent nation once more provided two conditions were met. Hagalaz was extradited to face justice and the region of Orde was granted to Melhed as payment for all the trouble.
  • Valentia refuses the demands, helping Hagalaz to escape to the south and offering Orde only if Melhed assisted in invading the weakened Thalmarkin.
  • Melhed refuses the deal and moves to claim Orde, despite the efforts of the Valentic army
