Etymology

The name Aubin is a variant of the more common Albin, and means "white" or "bright". This, combined with the family name means you could take his full name as "the bright sweet one" which suggests his parents were either not thinking of the meaning, or else had intended to raise him into something very different from the battle eager man he grew into.

Background

Born the first son of the Ledoux family in 1002, and the second child after his older sister. He had two younger sisters.

Raised in Unger by his petty noble family, his father raised him on his own ambition to break into proper nobility through knighthood. He was trained at an early age in war, trade, and etiquette, learned horseback riding on Winifael's while a squire, before returning to Unger on August 3rd, 1019, having be properly anointed a knight. The name of his teacher is lost, but presumably they were either close enough to the Ledoux family to teach their son, or else desperate enough for their coin they accepted the boy as a squire.

Appearance

Aubin wears his straight brown hair at a medium length - just long enough for the bangs to get in his eyes - and has a neatly trimmed beard. Standing at 5`4``, he's not particularly tall compared to many other nobles, but his body is clearly that of a warrior. He takes great care for his appearance, rarely showing himself exhausted or dirtied if he can help it.

Though he has no notable gear, he commonly wears a set of blue dyed mail with golden pauldrons, and a white fur cloak. His preferred armament is the arming sword.

Personality

Perhaps the most notable aspect of Aubin is the sheer enthusiasm he exhibits. Eager to battle, loyal to a fault, and dangerously sincere, he's the kind of person who takes his duties seriously and finds pleasure in a job well done. He speaks calmly and with authority, but bows his head to those with greater wisdom than him.

This does not make him a good person by any means. Though neither cruel nor capricious, he firmly believes in the right of nobles to rule those under him, and has little regret in ordering the death of men — others or his own. For him, it is the duty of nobles to participate in the harsh calculus of life on Battlemastera and the duty of their lessers to obey.
