Archon Faldron Nethercoate

Archon Faldron Nethercoate, ruled from 16th day of Autumn 34 YD to 5th day of Winter 35 YD. During his reign, lasting just over a year, Westgard would expand and contract numerous times. The fierce rogue hordes pushed the realm to the brink of destruction more than once; even getting the fledgling realm down to one or two single regions. Though Westgard never got directly involved with other realms on the island during his reign, much did happen across Dwilight.

Far in the east, there were many changes from the beginning of Faldron's rule to the end. Antiqualia, which was founded during the fracturing of the Morek Empire, lost their last city to Arnor. The beasts which ripped through Westgard had pushed humanity back south of Northnastrond. Westfold formed in the Unterlands, where they began a fight for survival against Astrum. Further south, Luria Nova dropped in size with the founding of Luria Boreal and the war with Fissoa. With all these changes around the world, Westgard stayed largely the same as they fought to the death with the great bestial horde.

It was drawing close to Winter, in the 34th Year, when the election of Archon of Gelene, as Westgard was then known, began. How many candidates there were has been lost to time but it is known that there was many. All of them came from distant lands which fell below the seas, some were rulers or councilors, others were mere nobles. Out of all these candidates, the one who came out on top was Faldron Nethercoate. Hailing from Atamara, the young Faldron was had only ever been a Count, never before did he hold such a prominent position. The inexperienced noble would have a difficult task ahead of him due to the massive hordes which still roamed the lands.

What the Archon Faldron promised to the realm during the election has been lost to history. Some stated that there was a disregard of these promises and that the Archon was a liar who never intended to fulfill these promises. Others disagreed with this assessment and sung his praise. The truth likely lies in the middle. Some promises were likely unfilled while others were upheld.

One of the most notable moments of the Archon Faldron's reign was the creation of The Virtues. These Virtues, prompted by Archon Faldron, were penned by Alyssa Fontaine and would become the cornerstone of Westgardian life.

In the end, Archon Faldron would become ill and silent. Eventually, he disappeared from Westgard and was never heard from again.

Archon Aarn Hemmingst

Archon Aarn Hemmingst Family, ruled from 8th day of Winter, 35 YD, to 7th day of Spring, 37 YD. During his almost two year long reign, Westgard would recover from the brink of death. Having been down to two regions when elected but growing to three times that size by the end. How much Westgard would interact with the rest of the human realms is currently lost in the shroud of undocumentation. What is known is that almost every other realm would shrink in the face of rogue scourge.

In the North East, the realm known as Avernus would break away from the Morek Empire. Arnor served much better than most of the other realms as they conquered the roguelands which divided segments of their realm. Westfold, embroiled in war, would shrink drastically and be on the brink of surrendering to Astrum. Though Westfold was close to death, Luria Boreal in the far south was already gone. Swordfell, Luria Nova, Fissoa, and Madina, all withered away as the hordes ravaged their lands. Truly, Westgard was one of the fortunate realms which miraculously prospered.

In the Winter of 35, an election was held for the replacement of Archon Faldron. Specifics, as usual, have never truly been recorded. Despite this unfortunate circumstance, the memory of the elders holds that Aarn Hemmingst would be the sole candidate of value. Archon Hemmingst would be an active leader and frequently showed up for battle with the rogues which seemed never-ending. For Westgard, there wasn't much else to do besides the cycle of conquering the regions around Gelene, and then losing them to hordes of twenty plus thousand who destroyed everything.

Eventually Archon Hemmingst would propose the idea of taking the Shrine of Seeklander to make it a buffer. The plan of securing the region worked and the Archon decided to lord over the fortress to stabilize it. Over time Westgard would lose the Shrine, take it again, lose it again, and repeat. The plan ultimately failed and all the human lives sacrificed in the pursuit of stability were for naught. These repeated losses of the Shrine were too much for him and he would succumb to madness and paranoia. This was the end of the second Archon's reign: insanity.
