Coria is newly established Republic that is lead by a Senate of nobles and benefits from a Parliament that serves as an advisory body to the Senate. Everyone has a say in government through open membership to the Parliament and all Nobles are expected to speak up and contribute as they may. Coria values Integrity, Honor and Respect and welcomes all Nobles who share these values. It is up to each noble to earn the respect of their peers. Without this respect your words may mean little against the opinions of others.

History

Coria was established as a Colony of the Cagilan Empire when a long war against Falasan drew to an end on the first day of Autumn of the fifth year (OOC year) of Atamara. Since that time, Coria has grown to become a strong and independent nation. Coria is a republic that values Integrity, Honor and Respect. Despite it's progress, Coria is still young and seeks brave and honorable knights to join it's ranks.

Government

Coria is a republic. As such, every noble has a voice and is encouraged to use it. The republic is lead by an elected Consul. The Consul appoints the General and the Master of Scales. The laws of the realm are established and enforced by an elected High Magistrate.

Government Positions

Title Role Ascendancy Responsibilities
Consul Ruler Elected Directly responsible for Diplomacy and indirectly responsible for the Military and
Finances the appointer of the General and the Master of Scales.
High Magistrate Judge Elected Directly responsible for establishing and enforcing Corian Law.
General General Appointed Commands the Corian Military and thus directs the Marshals of all Corian Armys.
Master of Scales Banker Appointed Directly responsible for Coria's financial matters, taking care of trade, banking
and taxes.

Political Councils

Coria has two established political councils: The Corian Senate and The Corian Parliament. The Corian Senate consists of the Lords of Coria while The Corian Parliament is open to all interested nobles. The councils exist to provide the Corian Government with their thoughts and perspectives on pressing political matters.

Corian Parliament

A public group that all nobles are free to join. The Parliament consists of nobles interested in the realm diplomacy, politics, policy and military issues.

Hierarchy

There are two recognized Hierarchies within Coria. The Political Hierarchy indicates whom owes their allegiance to whom. The Military Hierarchy dictates who you receive your orders from on military matters. Generally speaking the Political Hierarchy takes precedence over the Military Hierarchy. For example, a Knight will generally follow orders from his Lord over orders from his Marshal. After, he only serves in the army at the direction of his Lord.

Laws

Illegal Acts

  • Hanging Rebels - (Not allowed unless authorised by lord of that region, marshal, General or High Magistrate)
  • Looting (without permission from General)
  • Looting, sacking or damaging ANY place of worship of ANY legal religion in ANY Realm = Instant ban from Coria
  • Arresting Freemen of Coria without just cause
  • Dealing on the black market
  • Falsifying papers to buy Region lordship - Ban unless prior approval by both Judge and General.
  • Transferring money to your family (without permission from High Magistrate)
  • Deliberately disobeying a Noble of higher rank

Laws Regarding Positions of Power

The positions of Duke and Consul require a lot of time and responsibility, therefore no Duke or Consul is permitted to hold a government position or lordship in addition to their post as it may adversely affect their ability to fulfill their responsibilities. All other cases of dual lordship and government leaderships should be handled on a case-by-case basis with the good of Coria being the deciding factor.

Laws Regarding Religion

Forming a new religion is legal in our Realm, with the permission of the Council. All requests to form a new religion must be presented to the Council, and each must be approved before it will be accepted as legal. Once a religion has been approved, permission must then be gained from the Region Lord/Lady before any place of worship can be built in that Region. Once permission has been granted and any size temple built, that religion comes under the protection of our Realm. Magna Serpaensism has been declared illegal, and is not under the protection of our Realm.

Laws Regarding Adventurers

Adventurers have been invited and encouraged to work freely and unhindered within our borders to help keep the monster and undead problem under better control, in turn freeing more of our army for other tasks. Adventurers, therefore, are protected. If any of them break our laws or insult any of our Nobles, the matter should be brought to the attention of the High Magistrate, who will deal with the matter through the courts.

Economy

Coria's economy has proven robust. This point has been proven by how well Coria recovered after the traitorous Borus Von embezzled 10,000 gold from the Corian Treasury and Coria's many Nobles resulting in economic disaster. To aid the Master of Scales with the administration of Coria's economy the Corian Trade Commission has been established.

Culture

Coria is an open and progressive nation with a diverse background. Being seated in lands once ruled by the late Falasan, combined with the influx of settlers from the Cagilan Empire, Tara and Talerium, has led to a varied populace. However, a noticeable and distinctive trait of the Corian Nobility is the quiet efficiency with which everyone performs their duties.

Religion

The religious beliefs of Coria are as diverse as it's people. Major faiths include The Order and The Way of the Warrior Saints. Many other faiths can be found including The Way of the Hammer, Hörgr of Makar and the various Pagan/Forlk Lore religions that exist everywhere.

Geography

Coria lies in central Atamara along the southern coast of Central Lake. Eastern Coria consists of mountainous regions easing to hills and some forests. In Coria's center lie vast plains and parries and Coria's western regions tend to be more rugged and hilly.
