=== About the Region ===
Though not a major trade center itself, Matakonis does a fair business selling the produce of its rich farmland. Wheat, grapes, oilseeds, fruit, and wild honey are all found in abundance on the fertile fields. In the untended brushlands, turkeys and hare are plentiful and easily hunted.

On the surface, the peasants appear fiercely traditional and conservative. Clinging to customs which have seen little change for centuries, they live their lives as their ancestors did, bound to the harvest and following established agricultural practices. Yet, the constant flow of trade and traffic through this land has ensured that an adventurous spirit is firmly entrenched in the hearts of the people. In the summer months following the harvest festival, it is not uncommon to witness village elders pridefully recounting their travel stories to congregations of youngsters, many of whom are soon drawn to follow in the footsteps of their grandfathers.
