===Freidroch Tinsley===

Freidroch, the younger brother of Willem, having heard of the Eston attacks, pleaded with his father to be released from family chores to go fight for Falasan. Being more of a woodsman, he gathered men from the Black Brook area of Menedor and formed the ''Black Brook Archers''. These men were dropped as a militia unit in Menedor (and have since been eliminated by attacking Eston forces). He now commands the ''Eastern Lake Archers'', a very successful long-range archery unit.

His large estate sits very near his father's manor, where they share some pastures and wooded land.

Having learned that the woman that Freidroch was interested in has left Atamara, he has taken a vow of silence. Seeing that maintaining a vow of silence was not practical, he decided to abandon that foolishness and dedicate himself to martyrdom and has become a hero. If he could not have that woman, he was prepared to find death on the field of battle.

A cooler head prevailed and he saw the folly of his ways. He soon fell under the charm of Dame Willow Rossini. A friendship grew and he pledged himself to her.
Tinsleyhttps://wiki.battlemaster.org/index.php?title=Tinsley_Family/Willem&diff=122452Tinsley Family/Willem2009-04-14T01:08:53Z
Tinsley: minor update

Willem Tinsley was sent out to the world to seek his lot in life at the age of 17. Willem began his career in Falasan, Atamara, as a soldier. Willem took up the trader's path for a while, but decided that he was more suited to be a knight. He has commanded the ''Mountain Harts'' (an infantry unit), who who fought bravely against the enemies of Falasan.

Part of the conditions of the Falasan/Eston peace treaty call for handing the region of Amdor to Eston. At the beginning of the year, the region was returned and Willem stepped down as Marquis. After King Reilwin was elected, he appointed Willem to the position of Royal Treasurer of Falasan.

Willem is in love with Ilya [[Bluelake Family|Bluelake]], Baroness of Nazia, and they were recently [[Bluelake_Family/RP/Ilya%27s_wedding|wed]] at the Tournament in Tucha.

When Sir Tank, the Duke of Barad Gardor, was taken ill, the healers sent word that he was no longer able to fulfill his duties to that duchy. King Reilwin appointed Willem as the new Duke of Barad Gardor. He has been repairing the walls, tending to the city and has built a small temple of the Way of the Warrior Saints, which has been increased in size to a small temple.

Finding that he was not able to sleep nights and that his health was suffering, Willem stepped down from the role of Royal Treasurer.

He is now the father of two beautiful children, who have inherited that trait from their mother.
Tinsleyhttps://wiki.battlemaster.org/index.php?title=Tinsley_Family/Caroline&diff=122451Tinsley Family/Caroline2009-04-14T01:05:05Z
Tinsley: update

===Caroline Tinsley===

Caroline is the only natural child born to William and Lynn Tinsley. She is younger than her step-brothers. She left the ways of warfare in Ikalak, and took up the red tape of bureaucracy in Valentia, Beluaterra. At one time she was both the Countess of Winifael and Fiduciary of Valentia. As the current Invasion escalated, Valentia started to crumble. She was appointed Judge in Valentia, but it was too late to do anything. The realm had slipped into memory. She was instrumental in an attempt to retake Unger, but it failed. With Valentia gone, she traveled south and west to Heen. For a short while she was a knight of Latlan, but a shift has occurred and she has offered her services to Count Mark Anthony of Sotrebar. She has since returned to working as a bureaucrat.

Receiving the support of her Duke, Fror Dwarvenite, she has been appointed as Baroness of Apokh and still serves as a courtier for her realm. She currently commands the archery unit, ''Judicial'', a small detachment that assist her in her work with the clerks of the realm, mostly carrying stacks of paperwork and helping police the streets.

Now it seems that Duke Fror, the (former) Great Malik of Heen and has taken a romantic interest in Caroline and she in him.

Through a series of events, Caroline was elected to the position of Heen's Judge. She released her position as Baroness of Apokh and then was captured by Prudent when a swarm of evil ran through Tor. She was stripped of her title as judge and relieved of the [[Long-lost Cloak of Ice]].

Upon her return from the dungeons of the Netherworld, she was asked by her love, Fror, to marry him. She accepted and has been happily married for some time.

Shortly thereafter, her Duke, Mark Anthony Obeji, appointed her as Baroness of Ling.

Through yet another series of events (that seems not uncommon in Heen), she was elected Judge of that realm. She was later appointed Duchess of Reeds.
Tinsleyhttps://wiki.battlemaster.org/index.php?title=Falasan&diff=122437Falasan2009-04-13T16:33:30Z
Tinsley: down to one duchy

Falasan is a mighty realm who maintains good relations with their neighbors. Falasan's days of peace have recently gone by the wayside and we find that the [[Cagilan Empire]] and other realms have declared war upon us. We are currently allied with [[Minas Ithil]] and the [[Ash Sea Islands]] under a variety of terms. In the past we were allied with the realm of [[Drachenwald]], but they have since slipped into memory.

Queens and Kings having come and gone. Falasan is still a proud realm and will continue to defend itself in the face of oppression. Recent activities have seemingly left Falasan hobbled. That is not true, as time will bear out the truth.
== Traders of Falasan ==

Over the years there have been a number of traders in Falasan, for Falasan still welcomes trading as a way to foster a peaceful existence. These traders' names are recorded in other places and need not be named here. Presently Falasan has several excellent traders. They are constantly offering great prices and quality goods, some to be found nowhere else. These traders can be trusted to deal fairly with all.
It is not easy to describe the factual religious situation in Heen, at least it cannot be done by naming temples alone. Therefore two priests have devoted some of their time to studies concerning religion in Heen. First was [[DeSyrr_Family/Valeria|Valeria DeSyrr]] who wrote the [[Heen/Religion#Religious study by Valeria DeSyrr|Religious study by Valeria DeSyrr]]. Over time, a new study was required which was willingly conducted by Plagueis Orgauth, namely the [[Heen/Religion#Religious progression by Plagueis Orgauth|Religious progression by Plagueis Orgauth]].
The sea on the east coast of Cori provides enough moisture to grow some hearty grain. A former Region Lord, Count Trevor has developed the plants for his special baking requirements. He has also used the pottery developed in the region of Chato to produce some interesting bread shapes. The people of the region are settled into sea fishing villages on the coast or along the trade road coming from Tucha. They have adapted to the sparseness of the land and await the baking festivals that Count Trevor enjoyed hosting.
A mountainous region on Atamara, which belongs to the Royal Crown of Falasan. It is a strategic region that safeguards South Western regions of the realm, as well as protects Barad Falas from the winds of flat South. It's value is unquestionable. It used to be a thriving region before the Cagilan Empire declared war on Falasan, and now population is very reduced due to constant pillaging of invaders and constant killing.
Falasan is a mighty realm who maintains good relations with their neighbors. Falasan's days of peace have recently gone by the wayside and we find that the [[Cagilan Empire]] nad other realms have declared war upon us. We are currently allied with [[Minas Ithil]], [[Norland]] and the [[Ash Sea Islands]] under a variety of terms.

=A Guide to Medieval Life and Roleplaying in Battlemaster=

==Introduction==

There are many facets of medieval life which are easily overlooked in what can often be the very competitive atmosphere of Battlemaster. This primer exists to fill in a few of the blanks about how things were in medieval society.

As Battlemaster's "medieval" setting is fairly loosely defined, this primer will try and avoid overly specific examples or anecdotes. Most of the information here is based on Western European history between the eleventh and fifteenth centuries.

==1. Nobles are to Commoners as Commoners are to Donkeys==

Blood is everything. The idea of 'elevating' a mere commoner to a noble was disgusting to many, and this was an extremely rare act, reserved for people who had done tremendous service to the Crown. It became more common in the early Renaissance (when commoners could be rich and influential and not just serfs), but even then, the older your family, the more respect you warranted.

Treating a commoner as though they were the same species as a noble was absolutely unheard of. There were no civil rights, no 'all men created equal.' The entire fabric of Feudal society was based on hierarchy.

That's not to say that, as a noble, you should treat all commoners like dirt and be cruel to them. Rather, a noble might think of a peasant as he thinks of his horse: a useful piece of property that should be taken care of (when convenient), because it is better for everyone when the property is happy and well-fed.

Just as a noble is a breed apart from a commoner, royalty is a breed apart from a noble. More on this later.

==2. Even poor nobles were rich, and there is always a Pecking Order==

In a typical Medieval town of a couple thousand, there might be a total of a couple dozen peasants who owned weapons of any quality (excluding the garrison, the sheriff, and his sergeants-at-arms). A suit of armor was worth several '''years''' of a peasant's income. To dress above your station was considered a grievous insult, but a rare one, because hardly anyone could afford to do it. This manifested itself in different ways: certain expensive dyes (such as purple) might be reserved only for Royalty.

Simply owning your own armor, sword, and horse makes you a noble to be reckoned with, even if that's the bottom of the social ladder in BM terms.

More wealthy nobles (region lords, and especially Dukes or rulers) had hundreds or even thousands of servants. Access to these nobles by lesser nobles was rare. Only the foremost knights of a county would have regular access to their lord, and regular access to a sovereign was even more rare -- even wealthy and influential nobles had to negotiate an often byzantine system of Royal Secretaries (themselves nobles) and influence-brokers.

Obviously, in BM, we want to foster RP and communication and it'd be silly to refuse to write to another noble because of their rank -- but remember that, when you are dealing with a noble above your own character's station, courtesy is paramount even if you don't get along. Spats between knights and nobles rarely spilled out into the public (that would be a scandal! but it happened) and everyone preferred to rely on intrigue and politics. Plausible deniability was everything.

==3. The Royal We (Pluralis Majestatis)==

Monarchs were without peer in terms of social, political, and economic rank. The Royal We was used as a token of respect, but it also had a very literal meaning. Kings were more than simply a noble who had been crowned; they became the personification of their realm and embodied it in all things. The King of England was not just (for example) Edward III du Plantagenet, but also England itself. This is the source of many social conventions as well as legal ones, e.g. 'an attack upon the King is an attack upon England itself.'

Forms of address were equally important lower on the social ladder. The Duke of Norfolk was considered to "be" Norfolk much in the same manner as the King "was" England, and (in some cases) particularly influential nobles of high station would get away with using the Royal We themselves. But even if they did not, it was customary to refer to landed nobles by their highest title.

For example, if John Smith becomes the Baron of Semon, he should properly be referred to as "Baron Semon" or "My Lord of Semon." To refer to him as "John" or even "Baron Smith" would be considered extremely personal and informal.

==4. Forms of Address==

Nobles were very particular about protocol. It was a critical piece in the structure of their society, even though it may seem a little silly (to us, today) to insist upon proper address. Even in private, only nobles who were very close friends would drop formal modes of address.

Proper protocol was something that one could study for a lifetime and still not master. It was (and still is) quite complicated, and so it's probably not a good idea to insist on every last detail in BM. Nonetheless, detail makes it a bit more fun, a bit more sincere, and you'll earn more drooling sycophant points with your liege if you know how to talk to him or her.

As you will see below, first names were almost never used in address. It would cause quite a stir to say "Count James" or "Duke Luyten" (even though that's what we're accustomed to in BM).

===Inferior versus Social Equal===

With some titles, it was customary to address a noble of superior status in one form, and a noble of equal status in another. It could be seen as a polite gesture to use the superior form when addressing an equal, but it could also be seen as patronizing. Nobles were finicky animals.

===Not using the Proper Form===

Mistakes and slips of the tongue were commonplace and often overlooked.

Purposefully dropping a title or honorific, or (even worse) substituting a lower one was considered a grievous insult.

===Kings and Queens (and other rulers)===

Kings and Queens often styled themselves more or less however they wanted to. Some Kings changed their "style" several times throughout their reign. Some Kings simply used "King" and were referred to as "Your Grace" (like Dukes, though the title of "Duke" itself didn't enter into popular usage until the 1300s, with a couple exceptions) or "Your Highness." Henry VIII, well past the "medieval ages", was actually the first English monarch to use "Majesty" as a mode of address.

Here are just some examples:

*Edward III, by the Grace of God, King of England, France, Ireland, and Wales
*Henry the Eighth, by the Grace of God, King of England, France and Lord of Ireland
*Henry the Eighth, by the Grace of God, King of England and France, Defender of the Faith and Lord of Ireland
*Henry the Eighth, by the Grace of God, King of England and France, Defender of the Faith, Lord of Ireland and of the Church of England in Earth Supreme Head (Henry VIII re-styled himself fairly often.)
*Victoria by the Grace of God Queen of the Britains, Defender of the Faith

In BM terms, it's usually a good idea to use "Majesty" or "Highness" or "Grace" and then find out what the local custom is. Most Kings and Queens in BM probably don't get too bent out of shape about their "style."

Chancellors, Prime Ministers, and Pontifexes are largely made-up Feudal ranks (or else they existed, but not as they do in BM). A Prime Minister might be "Your Excellency" while a Pontifex might be "Your Eminence," but there is no standard mode of address. That doesn't mean you should call them "Hey, Bob!" -- rather, just find out what what their "style" is (or if they have one at all.)

===Dukes===

(example: Colasan, surname Moncrieff)

A Duke's formal title is "His Grace the Duke of Colasan" and the superior, formal address is "His Grace" or (to him) "Your Grace." The equal form of address is simply "Duke." The Duke's sovereign, a very close friend, or a relative might address him simply as "Colasan," which would be considered extremely familiar.

A Duke's formal salutation would be "My Lord Duke," while a Duchess' would simply be "Madam."

====Relatives of a Duke====

This section would become unbearably long (or unbearably long''er'', depending on your persuasion) if it listed all the possible relations to every title. Here are a few modes of address for people related to a Duke -- most of them apply identically to lesser titles.

A '''Duke's Mother''' would be '''Her Grace, the Dowager Duchess of Colasan''' (or Her Grace
, the Dowager Duchess of Colasan)
A '''Duke's Son''' would simply be '''Lord Moncrieff''' (this is simplified from historical address, in which an eldest son would inherit a lesser title from the parent; as BM has no inheritance, all children are presumed to be "younger sons.")
A '''Lesser Noble's Son''' would be '''The Right Honorable <First Name> Moncrieff'''.

===Marquesses (Marquis)===

(example: Azarons, surname Devon)

A Marquess is styled "The Most Honorable The Marquess of Azarons" (yes, two "the") and he is formally addressed as "Lord Azarons" (and then "my lord" thereafter). He could also be addressed simply as "Azarons," though this would be considered far more familiar and informal.

A female Marquess is a Marchioness.

The English use "Marquess" while the French use "Marquis." Marquis is probably a little more universally recognized (based on my scientific survey of "seems to me.")

===Counts and Barons===

"Count" is a French title (Comte), as is Viscount (Vicomte); England had no Counts (though it did pick up a small number of Viscounts along the way) they were instead refered to as Barons.

It is almost identical to Marquis, except that, instead of "The Most Honorable," a Count is "The Right Honorable."

A Baron shares most forms of address with a Count, and is also "The Right Honorable."

==5. Holding Court and Noble Pastimes==

In Battlemaster, holding court is a bureaucratic and legal affair in which you set things in your region in order. Game-wise, it's very important, but RP-wise, that is only a fraction of what nobles really did when they held court.

Most nobles did not spend their entire lives fighting. Being a noble was about enjoying your privileges, and Court was the place where you did that. Every major noble had his own court, and lesser nobles would gravitate towards greater nobles' courts, seeking employment, favor, or just a good party.

Rulers and influential nobles who had their own courts usually entertained the nobles who were a part of it. Banquets, dances, great hunts, cards, intrigue, affairs -- anything that could pass the time. Nobles were really the idle rich of their day.

A genuine, in-character court is probably the most under-utilized RP tool in Battlemaster.

===What Nobles Did for Fun===

Here's what they didn't do: hang around in bars.

On the field or during tournaments, each noble had (at a minimum) his own tent; higher ranked nobles would have fairly extravagant tents or guest quarters at the host's castle if there was one nearby.

Most of the socializing nobles did actually took place during court sessions. In some courts, that partying would resemble tavern behavior -- fancy wenches, boozing, or crude jokes. In other courts, such behavior was unthinkable.

A knight or very minor noble might mingle with commoners to some extent; Medieval spymasters and intrigue-mongers would associate with all kinds of people to further their own ends, but they generally paid for such things in a loss of social standing, since any ongoing association with commoners was regarded as dirty.

Nobles spent most of their free time either at court, out hunting, going to war, raising their families, or spending their money and living well. There are a lot of ways to waste fortunes, and nobles thought of most of them. So can you.

==6. Medieval Justice==

There is a tendency in Battlemaster to skew perceptions of law and order towards a very modern, egalitarian sense of justice. Medieval justice had very little to do with our sense of justice today, both in theory and in application. This appeared both in the division between noble ("high") justice and commoner ("low") justice and even in how both of those were administered within their respective spheres.

The basic idea is that high justice had more in common with what we think of as justice today, in that you were at least treated like a person with a certain set of rights and the possibility of defending yourself, while low justice was closer to being sent to the principal's office. In criminal matters, commoners were entirely at the mercy of the local sheriff. In civil matters, the local magistrate might actually have an interest in a fair outcome of a business or personal dispute, or else he might simply respond to bribes or else pressure from a noble with an interest in the case.

Under very few circumstances could a commoner ever be a party to high justice, and no noble would ever submit to low justice. Consequently, it was pretty much impossible for a noble to commit a crime against a commoner. This started changing in the 1500s and on through the renaissance as people of common birth gained power and even nobility (and the lines between high and low otherwise began to blur), but during the High Medieval era, a nobleman could strike a peasant, sleep with his daughter, take his cow, or whatever else he desired. Doing so repeatedly and on a large scale was usually not desirable -- while any single transgression could and would easily be overlooked, a noble who habitually went around sampling the locals' daughters or burning down houses was like to be punished by his liege or the crown on the purely practical basis that such blatant and repeated malevolence threatened the feudal compact between serf and noble and between nobles themselves.

This was less the case during wartime, when invading armies would habitually help themselves to anything of value and the local food stores. There were exceptions -- Henry V notoriously forbade his soldiers from looting of any kind during his campaigns in France, and any army that intended to occupy and control the land through which it was traveling had a vested interest in preserving it. For the most part, though, even the Church only objected to serious mistreatment of the locals at the hands of invading armies.

In general, nobles were simply very hardened to certain realities of their lives: peasants were a different, lower breed of human, typically less valuable and more plentiful than a good warhorse, and a certain degree of what we would consider cruelty was blase. That's not to say that we are required to play our characters that way -- Battlemaster punishes a Judge for dipping into nobles' pockets or for executing them far more than is historically correct, but these and other gameplay issues are what makes Battlemaster something other than a straightforward medieval simulator (and unapologetically so).

==7. Roleplaying your Character==

===Do's and Don'ts===

* '''Do''' think about what each of your characters' opinions are on issues that matter to nobles: hierarchy (do I like the stability and consistency of a Monarchy, or the intrigue of a Republic?), noble conduct (do I look down on nobles who act like idiots or peasants?), ambition (how far am I willing to go to get ahead?), religion (should the Church interfere with politics, and if so, to what extent?)
* '''Don't''' have your character adopt a position on an issue that is so far away from the medieval norm that it forces everyone else to react harshly (e.g. "peasants and nobles are all humans and should be treated like equals"). This is a form of powerplaying -- it is appropriate (and even necessary) much of the time to take a contrary position to some or even most other nobles in your realm, but be sure it is something that a real noble, who has a lot to lose and values his reputation as much as his life, would gamble on.
* '''Do''' develop your NPCs. Even lesser nobles had dozens of servants: squires, pages, scribes, concubines, mistresses, stablehands, bodyguards, craftsmen, tailors, scouts, and on and on. Pick one or two of these and develop a relationship between your character and the NPC. Such RP is often a way to make "everyday" noble behavior a little more interesting, as well as to expose your character to RP with other characters -- even if your noble doesn't necessarily hang out with certain other nobles, your servants might hang out with theirs.
* '''Don't''' make your character or your NPCs good at everything and invincible. Flaws and foibles make for good reading -- even if your character is a powerful nobleman, nobody cares about a great noble walking around, doing great things all the time. We have to identify with each character we read about, or else we won't read.
* '''Do''' distinguish your characters from each other. It is not necessary to make them complete opposites -- Battlemaster is rife with family feuds and the like -- but you should give them personality traits such that they immediately stand out from one another. One of the worst things that can happen to you in BM is if your characters get pigeonholed as simply being appendages of you (the player) and nothing more. BM is a competitive game and everybody wants to get ahead, but every time you place "winning" the game ahead of your own characters' desires and attitudes, not only is your enjoyment of the game lessened (you won't notice it right away, but it '''will''' happen), but other players will see that you're after a numerical victory (honor, prestige, gold) and not simply having a good time.
* '''Don't''' RP other peoples' characters for them. This is a form of "powerplaying" and happens when, for example, you RP something with a serious effect on another character without their permission. If you are going to hit another noble over the head, steal his purse, sleep with his wife, or otherwise do anything that has more than a passing consequence, either get their permission, or have the game back you up (i.e. if you've just won a duel, then you can certainly RP winning the duel, but you should still work out the specifics of how the duel went with the other player). For example, even if I've just won a duel, I'm not going to RP that the other noble was an awful swordsman and didn't stand a chance unless I've cleared it with his player first.
* '''Do''' always be courteous OOCly, even to people your character hates. In fact, it's often a good idea to send an OOC note to another player and to let them know that you enjoy the IC rivalry -- it is easy to read in to RP and events on BM, and sometimes we all need a reminder that it's just a game.
* '''Don't''' sprinkle in OOC remarks in your RP. Label OOC messages with the OOC tag. IC and OOC do not get along.
* '''Do''' be aware of how feudalism influences your character. One of the best conflicts that is built in to BM is the vassal/suzerain relationship. A knight is almost always most loyal to his direct overlord (this is one of the reasons for the "pecking order" on your character's status screen, i.e. "knight of X" and THEN "member of <duchy" and THEN "member of <realm>"). Your lord puts gold in your pocket. You use that gold to pay your serfs. Your serfs work your land and feed your family. Interrupt that chain with significant consequences, even if they aren't coded, "game" consequences. It is OK to be loyal to your ruler or to a lord two levels up (i.e. your lord's lord), particularly if your own lord is a raving lunatic, but even then, your character does so at his own risk. There is really no more serious matter under feudal law than breaking the vassal/liege lord contract.
* '''Don't''' be vulgar. Some nobles acted more "noble" than others, but the great majority of nobles acted decently ''in public''. Behind closed doors, they may have cursed like sailors -- but being a noble was often about plotting intrigues and working quietly, behind the scenes, rather than announcing to the world that you think another noble is a moron or a poop-face.
* '''Do''' make every effort to see things as your character would see them. Your character doesn't think "okay, it's three turns from Ozrat to Colasan" -- he thinks in terms of miles, or hours, or days. He doesn't think in terms of CS; he just knows how many soldiers he commands and how well trained they are. He doesn't think in terms of honor and prestige as literal values; he thinks of them as abstract concepts. He doesn't think of morale and equipment damage as numbers; he walks among his soldiers (or not) and notices their mood and their readiness (or not).
* '''Don't''' look at things in game terms in your RP. No-one would ever refer to a lopsided war as "4 on 1" or even "4 realms against one realm." No-one would've referred to the Thirty Years' War as "five realms fighting." A realm is a huge, sovereign thing with moving parts and byzantine complexity. It is not a sports team, or even a group of 10-100 people all working to the same end -- it has tens of thousands of people, intrigue, politics -- it has ''life''. Alliances were tremendously complex things that were thrown away as quickly as they were formed (the number of treaties from the Medieval and Renaissance eras in which both parties agreed to "everlasting peace" was fairly ridiculous).

==Writing a Successful RP==

Given Battlemaster's structure, a single "RP Event" (let's call it a "snippet") needs to do several things in order to succeed. Let's consider, first, that a "successful" RP snippet...

* Is actually read from start to finish by a majority of people in your realm and/or on the RP list
* Shows off some element of your character that is dramatically interesting, funny, or both
* Doesn't make anyone angry at you OOCly (ICly is to be expected!)

It's a credit to Battlemaster's players that most RP out there is legitimately not bad. The depressing truth is that "not bad" won't get read unless it's only a few sentences long, and you can't do too much in a few sentences. Once you've established an audience, then you can take some liberties with the following conventions -- but as they say, you gotta know the rules before you can break 'em.

This section assumes you're already familiar with the '''Do's and Don't's''' above and relates specifically to writing one, self-contained RP snippet, rather than generally "how to RP your character."

'''Writing tips:'''

* Use proper spelling and grammar. English isn't everybody's first language in BM and people are usually quite tolerant of that, but BM is a written medium. Poor spelling and grammar make it hard to read what you're writing and is the written equivalent of mumbling while speaking. Nobody wants to be a grammar nazi and so it's entirely possible that you will never get called out for poor spelling or grammar -- but that doesn't mean it isn't affecting you. Firefox (http://getfirefox.com) includes a built-in spell checker that checks your spelling as you type. This is an excellent aide to using correct spelling in your writing. The default dictionary is American English rather than the preferred British English, but you'll get a better response if your writing is correct American English than if it's just plain wrong.
* Figure out what event is driving your RP. You do not need an in-game event (a battle, a succession, a secession, an appointment, etc.) to RP about, though they're the easiest engines for RP when they do happen. Think about an everyday occurrence (troop inspection, chatting with NPC subordinates, paperwork, NPC family members driving you crazy) and use that to "set the stage" even if something more momentous is the actual subject of the RP.
* You should be able to classify every paragraph of your RP as either drama or comedy (or both, but be careful with that). This is a simplification, but an important one.
* Get to the point and hook your readers in the first few sentences. You don't have 20 episodes of 47 minutes apiece to develop plot and character. Your readers have the attention span of the average Internet surfer and they won't give you more time than that unless you give them a realy good reason to do so.
* Don't dress up your RP with ASCII (i.e. ~*~*~*~*~ THE PALACE ~*~*~*~*~*). Your RP will be good enough on its own without any extra clothes on! Likewise, avoid extraneous, semi-legitimate internet punctuation, e.g. using /slashes for emphasis/ or *asterisks when things are important*. These are okay periodically, but eight out of ten times, the context of a phrase will indicate where emphasis should be already. If it doesn't, try to say it more clearly.
* Length: keep it short and to the point. Longer RP is OK if every sentence is really contributing something. Look over what you've written and see if you can remove a sentence or two without changing the meaning or making it less dramatic or funny.
* Cliche #1 to avoid: Boozing it up in pubs. Nobles did not booze it up in pubs like university students. Young knights might've frequented fancy drinking establishments with other young knights, but stay on the safe side of your noble's nobility and avoid this scenario entirely.
* Cliche #2 to avoid: Superhero battle performance, e.g. "After personally dispatching his fifty-fourth foe, Count Bob wiped his brow and ate some beef jerky." Foibles are more entertaining to read about than invincible characters. Make your character human.
* '''Be brave.''' Nobody does all of this all the time - not even the pros. The best way to get better at RP is to do it. BM is not a writer's circle -- asking for feedback is liable to get you a mixed bag. But look over what you've written in the past (the RP list is good for this, since it's all archived) and think about what you might do differently next time.
A total of 148 nobles from 13 realms handed over the easily met 5 gold entrance fee and made way for Bisquez following Queen Amaarent's invitation to the Darkan tournament grounds. This is the way! Sir El Cid of ASI took the 500 gold first place prize in sword event (Sir Joytis of Talerium took second place and 250 gold), while Sir DrSeptre of the Barony dominated the joust for his 16th victory (with Sir Neo of Darka taking second). Congratulations to the champions!
Sure you can think of a few things (show off your skills, meet up with out-of-town acquaintances, challenge thy enemies to duel, what have you), but none would embody that tourney spirit of international cooperation quite like teaming up to destroy a few "evil" barrels of the good stuff. Former rulers Gabriel of Tara, Kostaja Kosunen of Darka, and '''the''' Zadar Nargath of the Empire took part in this mission of good will and good drinking, as well as inviting all interested parties to join in the hunt. A few serious souls resisted of course (there are always a few), Sir Vilnya of Carelia decided to devote all of his time to training instead. Admirable, yes, fun, no.
With fellow former-Abingtonian Gabriel Bachelor's first comment being "go drink poison and die", we can assume there are some unresolved issues at hand here. Of course, Gauihu's response "Alas, my dear Gabriel, even poison will no longer do your bidding" had us feeling the burn in Ser'quea. It did earn him an invite to the Barony from Lars of Sale, though. Atamara is just more interesting this way, isn't it?
Ash Sea Islands, Caergoth, Carelia, Suville and Tara Treaty

For the purposes of this writing the term 'Coalition' applies to Caergoth, Carelia, Suville and Tara.

1. Peace between the Ash Sea Islands and the Coalition for six months.

2. No militia exceeding 1,000 CS is to be allowed in Barnlure.

3. Any army of Carelia passing through Barnlure must move on within 24 hours of arrival. 'Army' is defined as a combined mobile force of 5,000 CS or greater.

4. The Ash Sea Islands relinquishes claim to Barnlure.

5. The Ash Sea Islands relinquishes claim to Aja, Inxi, Mapo and Tichi.

6. The Ash Sea Islands relinquishes claim to the Southern Island, meaning Wor'ight, Ash'rily, Worav and Veshin.

7. The Coalition recognizes Hegado, Jauchu, Lerss, Ser'quea and Yacon as sovereign Ash Sea Islands territory.

8. There shall be no passage for Coalition troops or nobles through Ash Sea Islands regions unless explicit consent of the Monarch of the Ash Sea Islands is given.

9. There shall be no passage for Ash Sea Islands troops or nobles through Coalition regions without explicit consent of the ruler of the respective realm to be traveled through.

10. The Ash Sea Islands not to enter any conflict involving the Coalition where they would be on an opposing side for three months from the signing of this treaty.

11. In the event of taking opposing sides in a third party conflict, relations can be lowered to neutral in order to help allies defensively only. At the end of hostilities, relations must once again be raised to peace.

12. Ash Sea Islands Priests and Infiltrators should not enter Coalition territory and vice versa. Punishment for first violation is a fine of 50 gold upon the priest/infiltrator in question. A second violation by that priest/infiltrator results in their being banned from their realm. Neither punishment applies in the event that a region lord has invited the priest to preach in their lands.

13. Caergoth has exclusive rights to Ash Sea Island's surplus food for a price of 30 gold per 100 bushels for six months.

14. Any violation of this treaty is to be resolved through negotiations within 48 hours, otherwise it is the responsibility of the signatories to enforce this treaty by force and a declaration war on the violating realm.

15. The Ash Sea Islands and the Coalition shall not permit the passage of another realm's troops through their lands to assault Ash Sea Islands or a member of the Coalition.

I will keep this brief as mincing words is something I am loathe to do. CE has tried for the longest time to maintain a stance of neutrality towards MI. We hold no grudge against them for their involvement in this war as they were merely seeking to defend their allies. We would have done the same had our positions been reversed.

However, this most recent attack upon the Taran capital changes their position from one of mere defense to offense. As such, CE has felt it necessary to make a change in our current relations with them...as your ambassadors will most likely tell you quite shortly.

We will still abide by the gentleman's agreement to keep our troops out of MI lands as they keep theirs out of CE territories, but we cannot let such an act go unanswered, even if the answer is mostly political in nature.
(And also a lot of people don't know it's there, don't know how to use, get intimidated by it, etc.) I don't see anything wrong with the devs putting a pointer here to some of the bugs about which they need more information, so long as it's kept current. --[[User:Indirik|Indirik]] 15:10, 3 November 2008 (CET)

{{new feature}}
== Introduction ==
Four new attributes are currently being experimented with. They do not yet have any game effects.

== The Attributes ==
The basic idea is that BM isn't a "max your attributes" game. So instead of attributes, why not abandon the concept entirely, and focus on experience directly?

We abstract a little and associate colours:

;Red:The colour of blood. For experience in battle.
;Gold:The colour of the crown, for experience at the court and in diplomatic and political dealings.
;Green:The colour of the fields, for administrative and domestic activities.
;Black:The colour of the shadows, for infiltration and anything that causes suffering and pain (looting, execution, torture, etc.)

== Display ==
Instead of showing values, the attributes are always displayed as relations. This is to counter the "max out some value" attitude that some players bring in from other games.

So on the info/status page of a character, the relation between the attributes of that character are shown, i.e. how high each is compared to the others.

There is also a comparison to other players, in a more/less way, i.e. you can see if someone else has "more Green" than you do or "less Green". This comparison between characters does use the absolute values, so you can be "more Black" than someone else, even if on your personal chart, "Black" is small and on his personal chart "Black" is huge.

'''First time owner:''' Coopergill Meadowcrest
Found on August 5th, 2008 in Ffangor, Old Grehk, duchy of Ossmat by Coopergill Meadowcrest.

After 3 hours, I finally found an organized undead army.
They were lead by an undead champion, an evil creature with more power and intelligence than the usual lot.
The battle rages, I was against the undead. My strikes landed true, shattering them to dust left and right.
The champion made me work for the will, he was quite the opponent. But in the end, he was just a pile of bones, too.
Among what is left of the champion, I found some treasures worth a total of 1 gold, 2 silver.
I also found an unique item among the loot, the "Hinmi's Breastplate". It was a grand place of armor with +1 added prestige.

Lost it to a large undead horde on Oct 11th, 2008.
'''Second owner:''' Coopergill Meadowcrest
Refound my lost item (Oct. 24th, 2008) in Ossmat, Old Grehk, duchy of Ossmat while wandering around the city looking for averages items to claim.
A mountainous region on Atamara, which belongs to the Royal Crown of Falasan. It is a strategic region that safeguards South Western regions of the realm, as well as protects Barad Falas from the winds of flat South. It's value is unquestionable. It used to be a thriving region before CE declared war on Falasan, and now population is very reduced due to constant pillaging of invaders and constant killing.

==Information==
When the world was in chaos and all hope seemed lost, the Highfather imbued his essence into the Seven Loyal Ancients, in the hope that they might be able to restore the world to the way the Highfather had intended before the Betrayers destroyed his perfect creation. Though each Ancient takes a different form, and searches for different types of people as followers, all share 2 primary goals:

1) '''The preservation and advancement of humanity.'''

-AND-

2) '''The destruction of evil, in whatever form it may take.'''

These are the two main criteria we use to evaluate other religions. If they profess teachings that are very close to these principles, they would probably be considered a "Variant". If their teachings are closer to the opposite of these criteria, they would probably be considered "Evil".

''Here are listed The Valentic Order's views on other popular teachings in Beluaterra (last updated on the 10th day of October '08).''

==Religions that are currently practiced on Beluaterra==

====[[The_Church_of_Qyrvagg|Qyrvaggism]]====

'''Misguided'''

*''Based on my studies of their manuscripts and my discussions & personal dealings with their priests, I believe "Qyrvagg" is an ancient name for Xed, spirit of Hate. I have brought the word of Komar to them, but they did not accept him. Soon, it will be time to bring the sword. - Darrin''

*''The followers of Qyrvaggism, in Heen particularly, wish to make an effort to get along more peacefully with us. As such, <nowiki>[</nowiki>Sister Caroline<nowiki>]</nowiki> has petitioned me to change our view of Qyrvaggism from "evil" to "misguided". For a long time I resisted doing this, as I always found their teachings to be a stark contrast to our own. But after reviewing the recently, it seems they have softened their stance on many things. I am in favor of this change, mostly because it will ease tensions in Heen for our followers. I still find their practices to be closer to "evil" than "misguided", but I think this change is in our best interests, as long as they do not revert to their old ways. - Darrin''

====[[Avalon/Religion/Druids|Order of the Druids]]====

'''Variant'''

*''I have yet to encounter any of their priests, but from my studies of their literature, I believe these Druids to be followers of Quil, Ancient of Trees. They are opposed to all forms of evil, acknowledge the Highfather (though not by name) and are devoted to the study of the Highfather's creation. The Druids should be treated as brothers & sisters. - Darrin''

====[[Hemaism]]====

'''Evil'''

*''The official religion of the Theocracy of Sint. Not much is known of their teachings, but they are insistent on persecuting our followers, and harass/attack our priests whenever we enter their lands. We have agreed to leave them alone for the time being, for our own safety. - Darrin''

====[[Melhed/Old_Gods|The Old Gods]]====

'''Variant'''

*''Their beliefs are very similar to our own. Of all the faiths on Beluaterra, this most closely resembles the goals & teachings of The Valentic Order. We consider this to be a sister faith. - Darrin''

====[[Eretzism]]====

'''Variant'''

*''They have a similar view of the hierarchy of Ancients, and acknowledge a "higher power" ruling them (The Highfather). I believe the avatar they call "Laceus" is the Ancient we call Rigan. They are opposed to evil of all kinds and seem to be interested in helping their fellow souls. - Darrin''

====[[Daishi]]====

'''Evil'''

*''Similar to The Order of The Golden Feather in scope, Daishi is a faith based on loyalty to Plergoth. Again, they are not inherently evil, but they are only interested in looking out for citizens and agendas of Plergoth. - Darrin''

====[[Golden Feather|The Order of The Golden Feather]]====

'''Misguided'''

*''From my studies of their public teachings, this seems to be a faith based on loyalty to Old Grehk. They seem to be interested in destroying evil ... '''if''' it threatens Old Grehk. And they seem to be interested in the advancement of humanity ... but only for citizens of Old Grehk. - Darrin''

====[[Church of the Living God]]====

'''Ignore'''

*''Not enough information has been gathered to make a proper decision. - Darrin''
*''Not enough information has been gathered to make a proper decision. - Darrin''
====[[The Blood Cult]]====

====New Way of the Dragon====

*''Not enough information has been gathered to make a proper decision. - Darrin''

==Religions that have fallen from common practice==

====[[The Path of the Great Dragon]]====

'''Variant'''

*''After speaking with their priests and studying their sacred scrolls, I have come to the conclusion that "The Great Dragon" they serve is actually a physical form taken by Rin, Ancient of Fire, to gain followers for himself. They are opposed to all forms of evil, and strive to do all they can to protect others from it as well. The followers of The Path should be treated as brothers & sisters. - Darrin''

====[[Omniovoism]]====

'''Misguided'''

*''Their religion is based on the worship of "The Egg" as they call it. Their published texts make no references of the Ancients. They seem to be committed to slaying the undead that still walk the lands of Beluaterra, which means they are opposed to some kinds of evil and are somewhat interested in helping their fellow souls. - Darrin''

====[[Hedonism]]====

'''Evil'''

*''While not inherently evil, this religion is solely focused on gratifying carnal pleasures, whatever they may be, and shows no regard for the rest of mankind. I have been beaten many times by their followers, and have come to think they view us as "Evil" for some reason.- Darrin''

====Ragnarok====

'''Ignore'''

*''Not enough information has been gathered to make a proper decision. - Darrin''

====[[Mentism|Divine Order of Mentism]]====

'''Variant'''

*''This religion is dedicated to a supreme being it's teachers call "The Creator" (who we recognize as the Highfather. Though they reject the existence of the Ancients, all other aspects of their teachings are in line with our own. - Darrin''

====[[Yggdrasili]]====

'''Ignore'''

*''Not enough information has been gathered to make a proper decision. - Darrin''

====[[Church of Estahsism|The Church of Estahsism]]====

'''Misguided'''

*''We had quite a heated conflict with them over some events in Mozul, which unfortunately erupted into physical conflict, despite my best efforts. However, Prins Simon, their leader, has sent me his condolences and promised to cease hostile actions against The Valentic Order. The teachings of this faith speak of advancing their culture & influence, but do not really take any sort of stance against the evil of the Betrayers. - Darrin''
==The High Father's Valentic Order of Knights==
dedicated to the Highfather, Komar, and the freedom of all Souls

The Knights of The Valentic Order are the best trained and disciplined fighters in the world. They are famous and easily recognized, usually wearing a distinct golden cape, with a red crown or cross emblazoned above the heart or on the chest, to signify their devotion to Komar. Joining this Order requires piety, obedience, and courage. For the warriors of The Valentic Order, there is a cardinal rule of never surrendering, with the understanding that if they were to die in battle, their entry into the Vale of the Highfather is assured. Their goal is to free all Souls from the influences of the Betrayers, and restore the World to the way the Highfather wished.

The Valentic Order is committed to the preservation and advancement of humanity. As such, we '''freely''' offer the services of our nobles to you.
__TOC__
==Living Characters==

The Grindles have a long and interesting history, but sadly have such poor memories that no-one now has much of a clue what that history involves. But being a noble family, they assume it to involve dragons, heroics, and the conquering of tea plantations. Their history is known no further back than Nether and Hope Grindle, a kind and wealthy couple from many years ago.

Hopefully over time, the family will be able to write down their triumphs and failures for future Grindles to read and forget. Sadly, they are more likely to spend it fighting for their lands, and raiding tea and biscuits from the local peasants through charm, cunning and swordsmanship.

'''Crip Grindle'''

Crip Grindle is the eldest currently touring the Battlemaster lands. He started his career on [[Atamara]], in [[Atamara/Elroth|Elroth]], under [[Falasan]] rule, where he was quick to enter battle with the elite Black Army against [[Eston]]. Fair-minded and responsible, he could usually be relied on to lead his men well, and was later appointed as Royal Treasurer of Falasan, commanding high-quality infantry in battle. He eventually left his position of Royal Treasurer to follow the [[Way of the Warrior Saints]] as a priest. That same week, he became Marquis of Elroth, making his family particularly proud. He, and his men particularly, are fond of a game of [[Skat]] each evening after supper.

'''Baz Grindle'''

Baz Grindle is the elder brother of Tidey and Cal. After some time in the wilderness, where he gained respect for fighting against monsters, he came to [[Arcachon]] to look after his mother, and became involved in battle and looting against Sartainia straight away. He has a similar personality to Cal, but is slightly more wild and slightly less rude.

'''Hather Grindle'''

Hather Grindle is the father of Dor Grindle; uncle of Crip, Cal, Baz and Tidey. He lived for many years in [[Atamara/Elroth|Elroth]], but discovered a strange man - some later suggested he might have been a sage - who sold him a book. The book explained about the Bloodstars of [[Sanguis Astroism]]. He was fascinated by it, and travelled to [[Dwilight]], to [[Morek]], to discover more. In Morek, he discovered the Seep-ko-ba, a tribe in [[Dwilight/Taishan|Taishan]], who he befriended and now commands in battle. After serving in battle, and being captured by rogue forces on more than one occasion, he was made Marshal of the Order of the Maddening Star, one of Morek's two main armies. He also spent some time as Acting Viscount of [[Shomrak]] as the realm fought to keep that region under their control.

'''Tidey Grindle'''

Baz and Cal's sister, who spent much of her youth in petty crime and was shunned by her family, went away from home trying to regain some of her nobility. After being deported from Beluaterra, she spend a life of adventure in [[Itorunt]]. She fought for the [[Cursed Helm]] and [[Sacred Shield of Ejarr Puutl]] in Itorunt, as well as having the Ancient Shield of the Dragonslayer and the Band of Doom made for her by a sage. Her older brother Baz provided her with papers proving her innocence in the crimes of which she was once accused, though popular rumour suggests they were fakes and created by Baz when he needed his sister's support to settle a duel. But they, together with some letters of recommendation allowed her to rise to her current noble position, and she travelled to her brother in Arcachon before moving to start a new life in Cathay.

==Past Characters==

'''Dor Grindle''' - deleted Jan 08 (Dor and Cal both deleted with the aim of replacing with just one character on Dwilight instead)

Dor, first cousin of Crip, was also on [[Atamara]], having left [[Suville]] after the demise of [[Abington]], to join [[Minas Ithil]]. After a couple of feeble attempts early in his career to lead troops into battle, most of which involved him getting there too late and doing no good, he has turned his hand to some more subtle work, spending time with papers and analysis. Although weak in battle, his amiable nature and logical mind made him useful behind the scenes. He was a bureaucrat of fairly respectable quality, but has now retired, and mostly sits about enjoying the countryside.

'''Cal Grindle''' - deleted Jan 08 (Dor and Cal both deleted with the aim of replacing with just one character on Dwilight instead)

Cal, second cousin to Crip and Dor, started his career as the grouchy inhabitant of the realm of [[Perdan]], a Knight of [[East Continent/Perdan Mines|Perdan Mines]]. He tended to think that everything should be Perdan His, and longed to show how much better he was than Crip and Dor. He left Perdan to seek fame as a hero in [[Old Rancagua]], where he slipped into alcoholism and has not been heard of since. He has a headstrong streak, probably from his domineering grandmother, Tot, which can get him in trouble, but he will usually make a good attempt to fight his way out of it. Unlike his older siblings, he has avoided capture for petty crimes in his youth, and retains the respect that his noble ancestry deserves.

''Tidey Grindle was reading a letter from her brother, Baz. He didn't often write, and when he did it was usually to complain about people - this time, about the Arcachonian ex-Judge, who had wronged him in some way. Still, it was good to hear from him, she didn't get much to read.''

''She was interrupted by a distant noise. Perhaps someone with food, she thought. She was hungry, and keen to find someone willing to trade food for some of her gold. For a moment, she worried that it would be more of the monsters she'd fought the previous day, but she heard a human voice, and was comforted by that.''

''Then the human voice rose an octave, to a shrill squeal, and Tidey ran towards it. The squeal continued, and soon she was close, and could make out another noise - one she knew to fear - that of the undead.''

''As she arrived on the scene, she found a priest in the grip of an undead man. The priest was screaming in pain, and trying to defend himself, but with only books as weapons, he was not succeeding.''

''Tidey ran to the beast, attacking it and slashing down with her sword, causing it to lose its grip. She attacked again, ducking from its counter attack, and out-stepped it a few times before finding a chance to lunge with the sword point. The sword rammed against bone, and the undead collapsed. Tidey made sure to end its challenge with another slash to the head.''

''The priest was badly hurt, and Tidey picked up the undead's shield as she went to him. The priest was lying on the floor with blood pooling at his arm, and looked up at her.''

'''Priest''': Miss, you have... much skill.

'''Tidey''': Thank you - but what can I do to help you?

'''Priest''': No, it is too late for me - the pain is increasing and... it is my time. But you... you have won a trophy, no?

''The priest pointed to the shield, and placed his hand on it.''

'''Priest''': This shield has been used by the undead against the people of Ejarr Puutl. I will bless... bless it, so that it... it will be used for good.

''The priest muttered some words, and Tidey looked at her new trophy. The now sacred shield of Ejarr Puutl. She smiled at it and looked back to the priest. the pain had overcome him, and his blessing of her shield would be his last action.''

*Emgraved into the edge, are '''Desert Roses'''. These symbolise that despite the harsh, arid conditions of the desert, many things will bloom - in fact, some quite beautiful.
*Also engraved are '''Scimitars''' which shows the Heenite's courage on the battlefield. To wield a scimitar from horse/camelback - you leave yourself very open.
*'''The main body''' of the shield shows the skill of some of the fine artists of Heen. The desert skies paint a brilliant picture almost every night, wherever you are in Heen.
*'''The camel rider''' symbolises how different our culture is from that of most other regions on the continent. Some do ride camels, and indeed their presence in the Heen charge has earned them a reputation for their "battle-hardiness".

The smithys and armourers will no doubt spend the next few weeks getting to grips with the complex design of the new logo, but there have been positive comments already. The population of the desert regions is quickly approaching 40,000 again, which it hit just before the undead invaded and killed nearly 9000 peasants.
|column 2 = This rise in population, has meant that most of the regions are now working at full capacity. Heen has produced surplus food the past few weeks, and has sold to neighbouring realms to feed needy mouths in light of the continuing oppression.

As well as the changes for the better of the newspaper, our realm has gone through a staggering amount of changes since the last edition. Unfortunately, we could not publish September's newspaper properly, as many things weren't ready, but hopefully this part of the article should summarize the events nicely.

Many of the positions within Heen have changed, for a variety of reasons. The former Duke of Tahgalez, Kagurati Tian was thought to be doing things his own way a little too often. He actively disobeyed orders to vote upon the giving of service medals within the realm, he dealt with the food in his region against the will of the Banker, and he had far too many ties to the former realm of Varyamo Nolvo to be healthy. The council decided to launch an investigation in secret, but Arch priest Attila leaked the information to Kagurati, and thus caused him to leave...to Mesh.

This of course, left the position of Duke of Tahgalez up for grabs. The candidates who stepped forward, were Joan of Arc, Jadine Baraedor, Mao Tse Tung, Medium T-Style and Hericus Le-Fay. A referendum was held with Jadine coming out on top by a vast majority.
This meant that Jadine had to give up her position as Baroness of Hcallow. The large estate there went to Tanis Mosher.

Around the same time, Beatrice Grancourt stepped down from her position as Countess of Kif, handing over control of the region to her loyal Knight Tissaphernes Ulthran. She also took up the sword again, returning to the army for the future.

However, that was not the end of the quick-stepping to take place in Heen. After many rumours of spies within our realm working with Mesh, and leaking all our most important documents, the Arch Priest Attila mysteriously disappeared somewhere in the deserts.
After another referendum, where Medium, Jadine and Hericus ran for the position; Arch Priestess of Heen was awarded to Jadine Baraedor, who will soon be stepping down as Duchess of Tahgalez, to give it back to one of the former owners of the stronghold - Mao Tse Tung. After many changes, Heen hopes the positions will be filled well, and few further changes will occur.}}
|author = [[Grancourt_Family#Thrydwulf_Grancourt|Thrydwulf]]
|article = The article to the left needs a bit of an introduction. Many readers will have heard/seen some of the "animosity" between Heen and Mesh. During the invasion, comments were thrown out into the open that were neither pleasant nor humane. Most of these feelings can be attributed to specific events that took place between a number of nobles on either side.

Earliest back, was the rebellion of Joppo from Mesh. A handful of nobles currently in Heen, once called themselves a Jopponite. However, they joined the realm of Joppo after the rebellion had won. They fought a hopeless battle against Mesh, and lost - most of them fleeing to Heen (the only realm out of the 3 Northern realms who had contacted them).

Then came King Scions victory in uniting the desert lands. He had thoughts to take back Joppo, but made the safer choice of looking after the regions gained, and waiting for the population to be sustainable again, as many of the regions were totally destroyed during the brutal wars.

Tarajist Balewind was then banned from Heen for breaking the Code of Nobility, in verbally assaulting council members, and making a disgrace of himself in front of his peers. This was seen by some as a mistake from the Arch Priest Medium at the time, but many also supported it. He fled to Mesh...

The final stage in the build up to the "Cold War" was the accusations against the former Duke Kagurati, where he fled before a solution could be decided upon...to Mesh.

But, the ex-Chancellor Danny of Mesh remains the biggest reason why Heen has grown to dislike Mesh more than many thought possible. His continuous degradation of the desert realm before and during the invasion is no secret to anyone, especially the Heenites.}}

Thrydwulf considers himself an old friend of Tarajist. While Tarajist was Marshal of the First Army of Heen, Thrydwulf looked up to him, wanting to learn as much from the military man as possible. |title = Worries in Watto
|date = 07 October 1007
|author = [[Grancourt_Family#Thrydwulf_Grancourt|Thrydwulf]]
|column 1 = While much has been going on between the realms of Heen and Mesh over the last couple of days (see other articles), much has been going on around the lands of Heen also. To start on a good note: earlier this morning, Mao Tse Tung was appointed as the new Duke of the stronghold of the desert - Tahgalez. There is now a region without a Lord: Kording. Mao will have the pleasure of deciding the Lord as his first role in his new position.

The Heenites have been camped in their most outlying region of Watto for the best part of a Week. Initially, the intention was to head to Old Grekh to deal with the Daimons there, but upon hearing Plergoth, Khthon and now Vlaanderen under threat, the Heenites turned South. They were stopped in Watto however, by 4 separate Daimon Lords. Beatrice Grancourt and Bayloc Dajeli were caught out as they passed by.

The army set up camp in Watto, and began to keep watch on the regions of Tor (Ashborn) and Mokut (Mesh), where the Daimons seemed to be staying. Their numbers were not great enough to engage in the Daimons, but the General of Ashborn expressed a wish to tackle the Daimons in Ircymbar. One of the Daimon Lords has since moved on to Ircymbar, and the Heenite army needed to refit - with the promise to Ashborn that they would be back as soon as possible.
|column 2 = Things were not as simple as that, however (as usual!). Even as the orders for the Heenites to head back to Heen to refit were handed to all nobles in Watto and the first riders set out, a group of Monsters were spotted approaching the temporary fortifications the Heenites had made on the edge of the desert.

The first battle took place this morning, where only 13 monsters blindly assaulted the fortifications. Some eager Heenites, having not seen a battle in a long time, burst out of the fortifications early and engaged the savage beasts. This caused confusion and overcrowding, leading to a number of Heenite deaths. The monsters were defeated, but only for the morning. [[Heen/Heenite Highlights/October '07/Worries in Watto Battle 1|Battle 1]]

As evening approached, another group of 7 monsters - some perhaps from the morning assault from the look of their skin, but you never can tell - hurled themselves at the barricades with a vicious furiosity. Only 3 Heenite nobles were left to deal with the monsters: Thrydwulf, Alastar and Linker. The 7 monsters caused havoc in their berserker state, slaying a number of Heenite nobles before they were driven back. From recent scout reports it still looks like there are a few stragglers left. [[Heen/Heenite Highlights/October '07/Worries in Watto Battle 2|Battle 2]]

All the monster battles have caused the regions control to drop to province.
|title = Food for Thought
|date = 08 October 1007
|author = [[Grancourt_Family#Thrydwulf_Grancourt|Thrydwulf]]
|column 1 = Marche Telrunya, the Fidiciary of Riombara has finally arrived in Heen. He set out just over a week ago from his home in the South East of the continent, and on a lonely voyage, with only his caravans for company, the Banker set out for a realm the other side of the island. Heen had offered to sell some of its food, and at a very generous price. The council of Heen thought this would be a good time to interview the man (after providing him with shelter, and the workers to load his caravans for him) on a few things to do with the invasion, his thoughts about Heen, and how Riombara was holding up all those miles away.

The interview goes like this:

''Q: "Its good to finally get to sit and chat with you Marche. We've felt quite isolated in the deserts recently, and it is always good to make new friends. I wonder if you could answer my questions as honestly as you think you can, but if you can't answer any of them we wont be affronted. I would like to publish them in our desert paper if you will allow me."''

A: My thanks for your great hospitality. I have been treated quite well here and you have all been very friendly. I cannot ask for more. I shall try to answer your questions as honestly as I can, but please be aware that this will be my opinion, not that of Riombara. I'm sure there will be quite a few differences.

''Q: "How was your journey from all the way across the continent? Was there much trouble on the way? How long has it taken you?"''

A: It has taken me a full week to arrive here. The travels have been pretty smooth. My Scouts did a wonderful job and I could usually safe a hour or two every day due them. I wouldn't have been here now if I hadn't hired them. The Caravans gave me some trouble though with broken wheels and such things. The thing is if one of them breaks down you need to stop all the Caravans to fix the problem. Luckily the roads were in pretty good condition. The journey was long, but it allowed me to see a lot. I certainly would have enjoyed it a lot if it wasn't for those dark times currently.

''Q: "How did the other realms you passed through seem to be faring in these difficult times?"''

A: I paid most attention to the roads and those were in good condition. I wanted to make sure I was here in time, so I didn't stop to much or to long in villages and cities. Most regions seem to be faring decent considering the times we are in. I'm happy relatively much regions are still under the control of Humans. I wasn't here during the Second Invasion, but I think things could have been a lot worse at the moment.

''Q: "It is surely a bad sign that you have had to come across the whole continent to find food to feed your people. Just exactly how bad is the food situation in Riombara and the South in general?"''

A: Not very bright I'm afraid. The Undead have destroyed our Rural Regions not so long ago and we already lost four food producing regions. Due that the amount of Food we produce has gone done a lot. Rines is a big city to feed and demands fairly huge amounts. Luckily our regions are being repaired at the moment and things are looking a lot better now. However nobody knows how long that will last. Riombara needs to prepare for darker times. We have a weekly trade ongoing and have wonderful Allies that give us Food sometimes when they can, but that is currently not enough. Thats why I had to come all the way here to pick up more Food. The rest of the South is doing better for as far as I know and can all feed themselves.

''Q: "How much exactly are you buying from Heen, and why did you come all the way up here to buy it? Was it because of our generous prices, or was there another reason?"''

A: I'm buying 800 Food from Heen. The extra Food should allow Riombara to feed Rines for a long time. When I informed the Bankers that Riombara needed Food, Heen was the only one that reacted with a big deal and thats how I ended up accepting it. I was only later informed of the very generous price. I think Heen is currently asking one of the lowest prices on the continent. It was quite a pleasant surprise when I heard it. I must say I quite enjoy it here. The Nobles here are friendly and I've been treated very nice. However those things I didn't know when I first accepted the deal.

''Q: "How have the people of Riombara coped with the invasion so far?"''

A: It has been quite difficult for us. We have seen our army and our regions destroyed, but that is not enough to destroy Riombara. We have lost the outlying regions, but the rest of the people bear a strong bond with Riombara. Even in very bad shape they kept their faith in us. Now that allows us to help and repay those people again. Our Allies have helped us a lot. Without them we wouldn't have been here today. We truly owe them a lot. Our Nobles had to make some difficult decisions regarding the path Riombara will walk on, but we all have faith that we will emerge victorious, even though it will be difficult. We have our fair amount of discussions about things, but that allows important matters to be decided by everyone in Riombara. Its always good to have a critical eye. It allows one to work better. Our Nobles are united and fighting for something that holds them dearly. With that determination we will survive this Invasion.
|column 2 = ''Q: "How well do you think the people in charge of the various realms on the continent have equipped themselves during the hardships we have been faced with during the current invasion?"''

A: I keep myself more busy with internal matters, but for as far as I know most of the Realms realize that the Humans should work together against the Invaders. Past relations are put aside and many Realms decide to fight together. We gather and share important information regarding the Daimons. That is the best way to equip yourself and shows how strong the Humans can be if needed. Though I'm saddened that some don't see the importance of unification and still look at past relations. The current situation does not allow such things. All Humans should be on the same side. If the Daimons ever emerge victorious they will destroy everyone who helped them. They would then have no use anymore. As long as we all work together we will be victorious. Unification is the best way to equip ourselves for the current Invasion.

''Q: "Many of the other realms seem to have something against our desert realm, yet you have traveled all the way here for our food. We have never really been on the same side, as we are allied to Irombrozia - your long-time enemies from their rebellion, but how does Riombara view Heen?"''

A: This is not a time to look at past relations. We are all on the same side. I am here today because Riombara and Heen see the importance of working together. Riombara and many other Realms have put aside their past relations and are now working together with their former enemies against the Invaders. I can only hope that the rest will soon do the same. I cannot tell you how the rest of Riombara views Heen, but I can tell you that I personally view Heen as an ally against the Invaders. I have been treated well here and have absolutely no ill feelings towards Heen. I hope such relations can continue once the Invasion is over.

''Q: "I know you have not been in the desert long, but what were your first thoughts upon approaching our desert lands?"''

A: I wanted a place to sleep and something to drink and when I entered your deserts I realized that wasn't going to be easy! I had been quite weary from my travels. Its the first time that I have crossed the continent after all. I was quite happy when I found your encampment here. Things are luckily not bad here at all. I have recovered from my travels rather quickly.

''Q: "You have now seen the camels for the first time, what are your opinions on the beasts compared to horses like most realms use?"''

A: I was quite impressed on how you handle your camels in battle. I was never really convinced you could use camels well in battle, but you certainly proved me wrong. However I will always prefer horses. Even though you did a fine thing with your camels, I have more confidence in horses. They are easier to ride and easier to handle in my opinion. If I ride a horse I don't have to worry, as I know all will go well. I cannot guarantee the same with camels. I think I would spent more time on the camel then on the battle. Though one that uses camels his whole life will probably say exactly the opposite!

''Q: "Have you seen the beautiful desert rose yet? I'm sure some of the ladies in our stronghold will have plenty to give to you if you make a grand enough entrance..."''

A: I did not have much time to enjoy anything. I have not of the desert rose yet, but will surely take a look tomorrow. I should have some free time then. I do expect a lot now!

''Q: "Will you be trying our world famous snake stew? And perhaps you will take some of our Tulaberry Jam home with you? It is made in Kif, and the wealthier locals from the villages usually sell in Tahgalez come market day."''

A: I will gladly try your stew! I'm sure you can give me a place where I can get it. I have full faith in your Nobles and I assume it will be a great thing to eat, even for one from the far South. Sadly I wont go much further then Watto, but I shall ask Royal Treasurer Wolfgang if he can sent me some of the Tulaberry Jam. I will gladly take it home and share it with our Nobles. I'm sure they will appreciate it.

---

Heen wishes the Minister the safest of travels back to his homelands with his large stock of food, and hopes that the 800 bushells will go some way to helping the populations on the furthest reaches of the continent from their desert lands. We hope that this will be the start of many offers from realms, continent-wide to aid fellow humans in their struggle for survival against the starvation and chaos caused by the seemingly neverending invasion.

''"It was good to greet a fresh new face, and show him the delights of the desert sands, if only for a brief time.'' is the thought of many nobles who happened to be camped in Watto when Marche was sighted upon the horizon. We hope he will come back someday and perhaps glimpse even more of our beautiful sands.
It seems that Chancellor Pablo has stepped down from ruling Mesh as he is too busy to deal with everything during the invasion. Mesh needed somebody who would be around more, and Chancellor Leani Marrion has stepped up to take his place.
The two realms (now both lead by women) will hopefully be able to continue progressing with the peace talks, and resume the pathway to friendship between our two realms.
|article = It has been a while since the Heenite army was properly tested against elements of other worlds. Things have been rather quiet across the deserts in that respect (although other events are more pertinent!), but after a period of regrowth and rebuilding the Heenite army has been able to march out of the desert borders of the realm.

They marched East, through the realm of Ashborn; following two Daimon Lords that had left destruction in their wake. Upon arrival in the region of Junohep, the dark couds could be seen over the nearby city of Vozzessdor (Neo Grekh). The army waited a couple of days in Junohep for armies from Ashborn and Old Grekh to catch up. Taken by surprise the troop leaders of Ashborn and Old Grekh who had arrived early were ambushed by Vanquishing - having moved out of the city. After the initial shock, the Heenites and the new recruits from both realms moved into Vozzessdor this morning to finish Wispy. Neo Grekh also surfaced from their hideouts within the city to defeat many of the Daimons.
Of the 77 Daimons that were spotted entering the battle 55 were slain for 432 allied losses. This may seem like a heavy loss, but for the amount of Daimons slain, it is acceptable. Due to diplomatic relations, Old Grekh and Ashborn remained out of the battle, which greatly reduced the total number of defenders behind the walls.

Mark Anthony Obeji of Heen and Aamir Abdul Latif of Neo Grekh were wounded in the assault by the Daimons. Hopefully their recoveries will be swift.

Neo Grekh and Heen hope that Old Grekh and Ashborn will be able to fight in the second round that is sure to happen this evening as the sun sets. The Daimons are far more intimidating under the cover of darkness...}}

|title = The Heenite Celts
|date = 26 October 1007
|author = [[O'Deaghaidh_Family#Erin_O'Deaghaid|Erin]]
|column 1 = The Celtic people of Heen have had a significant influence on Heen and its people. Many people peasants and Nobles alike ask of their story. It is a long one and the best person to ask would be Erin O’Deaghaidh. Erin was the very first Celt to arrive in Heen and is their leader. I asked him to tell his story here it is.

“I arrived in Heen when I was 23, young and alone in the world. I lived in Abington and was tired of their tyrant of a Judge Gauihu. I was looking for adventure and found it with Heen. When I arrived in Heen it only consisted of 2 regions, the city of Heen and Ling. I was the 13th Noble of Heen. I helped fight their civil war, not too long after my brother Seamus arrived also looking for adventure. After that my cousin Naal followed along. Eventually the Civil war ended and we grew bored. Seamus left for Eston and Naal and I left for Ibladesh. We stayed in Ibladesh briefly because a Civil war broke out almost at the same time as we arrived. Naal and I fled to Ubent, where we were able to lay low. We spent most of our time in the pubs. Ubent is by far one of the poorest countries I’ve ever seen. Even the nobles were dressed in rags. Once again we were forced to leave. Tarajist’s brother, Vapor was the Prime Minister Ubent. We left during the night and fled to Perdan where we found a boat of passage to the Far East.
|column 2 = After a long voyage to Soliferum we finally arrived. Another wartorn realm that Naal and I fought for. We stayed for quite a while, I felt empty though. It didn’t take long to figure out why. I missed Heen, I wanted to return. I left alone during the night without telling Naal. It really took no time for Naal to figure out where I had run off too. He followed me around the world.

When I got to Heen the Invasion had begun, I knew Heen could not stand with out more help. I called on my family and friends to come and fight for me. They sailed in one by one, Seamus, Alastar, Mark Anthony and Evan. We fought with every ounce of strength while the undead Raped Heen city.

After we drove them out I was eventually given the Lordship of Sotrebar, Where I founded the Celtic Order. We needed some place to drink! Attila the judge at the time, accused me of embezzlement and conspiracy to overthrow the Monarch. The charges were eventually dropped. Now we are growing in numbers and guild houses are being built all over. I have no clue what will happen next but I can say we’re here to stay.”}}
|title = Unfortunate Undead
|author = [[Grancourt_Family#Thrydwulf_Grancourt|Thrydwulf]]
|article = While the Heenite army was out fighting alongside Neo Grekh in Vozzessdor, the undead saw a perfect opportunity to approach the desert lands. Moving up through Mesh lands, two leaders: Dimitri and Bravo. Our border scouts alerted us to the danger, and we gathered troops in Watersdown ready for them. As they moved into Apokh, the undead attempted to catch us out by staggering their movements and arriving together but making it look like they would arrive separately. The Heenite army misdirected to Apokh and stayed in Watersdown.

The two Undead units were around 9000 in strength and the Heenites who had managed to assemble in Watersdown (most were still returning from aiding Neo Grekh) were only 4000 strong. However, as the undead seemed to be too timid to march out of Apokh, Heen was able to wait for some nobles to catch up, and for Sint who had been asked to come to aid to arrive in Kording. Two monster groups had also wanted to join in the fray, and with 20,000 strong forces in Watersdown and Kording, orders were given to march for the liberation of Apokh.

As the soldiers from two realms, and the monsters galloped into Apokh, the last few undead bodies could be seen fleeing into Mesh lands - forbidden territory for Sint/Heen. Keeping an eye on the undead who were now travelling East on the border of Mesh/Heen, the Heenites moved towards Watto, and Sint headed back to Firbalt to refit. Finally an opportunity arose when the undead who had arrived in Tor, set out for Gilhalcert. Sint, Heen and the monsters immediately set movement for Gilhalcert, hoping to trap the undead who were inbetween regions.

However, it appears that sometime during that night, the undead turn around and headed back to Tor. This time the humans were '''sure''' to catch them on their swifter feet. And so the Heenites and monsters ambushed the two leaders in Tor. Sint unable to move into the region as there were 3 Ashborn units sitting there, meant that Heen and the monsters had to move on their own. The battle can be found in the article to the right.}}
Despite losing the battle, they managed to wound one of the leaders - Dimitri. They would be back for another round after the turn however.

Except, they weren't! In a stroke of something short of stupidity, Bravo decided to leave his wounded compatriate and his leaderless unit in Tor, and foolishly marched into Gilhalcert to meet his destruction at the hands of Sint.

Heen nobles took part in both battles and both of the undead units were completely destroyed, leaving their wounded leaders to stagger from the battlefield and hide somewhere. The two battles from this evening are reported just below:

[[Heen/Heenite Highlights/October '07/Battle in Tor 2|Battle in Tor 2]] - In one swift charge, the Heenite Infantry, packed out by the monsters fanned out in a wall formation and charged into the shambled line of the undead.
Shadovar has no state religion at this time and it is not illegal to start a new religion, Though a religion must obtain the permission of the local lord/Duke before either preaching or building temples. If a new Lord or Duke refuses to allow that religion to preach or build any new temples, that is his/her right. However it is not permissible to tear down existing temples unless either 1. Permission is obtained from the religion, 2. There are no (0) believers in that faith in that region. 2a. the religion must be notified and given the opportunity to remove any gold from the temple. 2b. It is preferred that the priest(s) of that religion be given the opportunity to tear down their own temple. The cost of which is the responsibility of the Lord of the region.
[[Image:Welby5.png|frame|right|
St. Welby with mortar and trowel
]]
Much research in the archives and libraries of Barad Gardor have produced just a small bit of information on Saint Welby, the patron saint of Buildings, Architecture and Hand Tools.

It appears that he came from a family of stone masons or cutters in the hills of Anfalas. As a child he worked with his father and brothers. He had an interest in the hammer and chisel and was adept at making a round stone square before the age of 10.

He is credited with devising methods to increase the stability of fortifications in the major cities that circle the Silver Lake. His method appears to be that he used interlocking stones and a much more stable mortar.

It was said that he could "float on the air" to achieve the leverage necessary to accomplish his task at hand. There are reports that he could design and construct a three story building in just two days. Although he did not profess to follow the ways of the Great Father, his association with the Holy Earth and Stones, and his ability to maintain The Order of All Things through construction, a legend seems to have been formed around him.

Though not widely known, several clerks in the administration of the city of Barad Gardor swear by his abilities and note that some of his buildings in the city still stand to this day.
Tinsleyhttps://wiki.battlemaster.org/index.php?title=File:Welby5.png&diff=102430File:Welby5.png2008-09-08T04:03:15Z
Tinsley:
