Yssrgard was formed when Sydgard merged into Fallangard on 1019-11-24. Sydgard, originally Alara, was a Viking realm of raiders and barbarians centered around the city of Itorunt. Fallangard was a chivalric realm of classic knights based in Isadril. Out of a desire to grow their realms and increase security against external threats, the realms merged. The merger was not previously approved by Perleone, the overlord of Sydgard at the time, which threatened war. Furthermore the Duke of Isadril, Edvard Perfect II, decided to join Perleone in protest against the merger. The cause for war was established, and the newly formed Yssrgard fought a war for independence and their rightful territory with Perleone. Victory was achieved in 1020, assuring Yssrgardian independence for years to come.

Yssrgard is currently situated on the southeast coast of the East Continent. It is bounded by Caligus in the north, Perleone in the West, Rogue in the south, and the Tangleweed Sea to the east. It sits in the South Highlands climate region, which is typified by rolling hills and a mix of scrubby forests and open plains. Its population mostly follow the Aethir, and share many physical and cultural traits with the people further south in the unclaimed lands. Its economy is largely focused on agricultural products and fishing, with some logging out of Enubec. Isadril is a global trade hub, while Itorunt is a locus for the agricultural exchange in the south.

Yssrgard is a kingdom, currently ruled by Germanico Mercator. It consists of 8 regions with 3 duchies but only 2 cities. Xavax is off-limits due to previous treaty with Perleone. The symbol of Yssrgard is the wolf.

History

After the fall of Minas Nova to Perleone and the subsequent neglect of the southernmost reaches of the continent, the established nobility was scattered and replaced with petty barons and independent regional councils. Over time, the culture of the various regions devolved into a savage society of warring clans and warlords who fought for dominance without ever gaining lasting stability. The lack of a centralized government allowed this culture to flourish unabated.

Over time, these peoples migrated and spread from the south and moved into Alara. On the eve of Alara's destruction by Perleone, a cultural reformation led by Eros Harte, King of Alara at that time, led to the acceptance of the violent culture of the south into the established power structures of Alara. This resulted in the creation of Sydgard.
