About

Saint Leonidas is a patron saint of Leohampton, Minas Leon, courage and defiance. Often depicted as a golden lion with long thrusting spear and a heavy rotund shield.

His known prognostocese include Three Heads of Courage, philosophical debate on leadership qualities, and Balance and Counterbalance, a practical and detailed handbook on using thrusting spear in melee combat.

Legend

Leonidas was a swordsman in Leohampton garrison along with his elder brother Legionas. Both of muscular built and long golden hair, many considered them children of Arelien herself. But unlike their appearence, brothers were of opposite characters. Legionas was brash and merciless, like true goddess' descendant, while Leonidas was meek and silent.

When Leohampton rebelled against the monarchy, Legionas and many others left the city to join the conquering army. Great army consisted of monarchy forces as well as norsemen, coming in great hosts. Their only purpose was to break Minas Leon and return city of Leohampton crawling to the crown. Leonidas defied his brother (and some say Arelien herself) and opted for Leohampton. Siege was a blood bath, but defenders endured with Leonidas amongst them.

In a desperate act, attackers launched a terrible onslaught which threatened to crush the city gate. Legend says that Leonidas sprang then with his chosen comrades and defended the gate with courage and ferocity unprecedented. He fought like a lion, long spear thrusting like a lighning-strike to left and right, killing many and sowing fear into hearts of others. Under fierce fighting whole left gate-wing crumbled completely, killing friend and foe alike, but monarchy was repelled and Minas Leon freed.

Even to this day people swear that at dawn one can see Leonidas' dying smile still hovering above city walls, solemn in his everlasting vigilance.
