V'Orlan Family/Opal Griffons

The Opal Griffons are one of the oldest mercenary companies in Perdan, though their fortunes and fame have been through peaks and valleys, most notably valleys in the past twenty years. They have a strong martial tradition, and keep the faith of Sanctus Acies though noble priests of the faith have long since perished, and with them their secrets, senior ranks of the Opal Griffons have always been laymen in the faith.

Organisation

• Overseen by a Knight-Commander when in noble employ
• Led by a Captain and a Lieutenant
• Split between a Company of 50, and a Band of 20
• Each group of ten men is led by a Serjent
• Scouts are commanded by a chief scout, also known as the Captain's Left Hand.

History

The original Opal Griffons were wiped out to the man in the final stages of the Siege of Bescanon, and were re-raised as the New Griffons a week later, bearing the same colours.

Equipment

Armed with half-plate, many are armed with two or three weapons of a notable quality, with strong oak and steel spears being carried by every soldier.

Recruiting

The Griffons only recruit trained men from those of Perdanese heritage, within heartland regions of Ancient Perdan, namely Aix, Partora, and Perdan. Often recruiting camp followers that become soldiers from the youth of impoverished families or those with a family background of service. The most esteemed of these young recruits are war orphans, which are recruited wherever they are found by the Griffons.

Colours

The colours of the Opal Griffons are Or and Argent, trimmed now with a black border to mourn the loss of the original cohort of men that bore the flag. Honours are as follows
