Gathering of Blades

The Gathering of Blades Guild (known simply as "The Gathering") is a collection of nobles interested in proving their skill in the noble art of single combat in the Colonies. Guild members, known as Blades, can frequently be found near the islands academies attempting to climb the Gatherings ranks and achieve fame as a Champion.

Rules

  • Arbitrator rulings are final.
  • All challenges are to be made at academies using proper protection and equipment as Training Matches. Our interest is displaying technique and skill, not unduly shedding noble blood.
  • Gaining or losing rank within The Gathering is done thusly:
    • Aspirants can challenge anyone of the Guild save Arbitrators. Victory gains them rank (up to "Ranked Blade") and defeat loses them rank (down to "Neophyte Blade").
    • Honored Blades can challenge anyone of the Guild save Arbitrators, but only victory or Defeat against other Honored Blades or Champions changes their rank.
    • Named Champions (Ex: "Champion of Wetham Duchy") can challenge anyone of the Guild save Arbitrators, but only Defeat by a Renowned Blade of the named group (Ex: a Renowned Blade whose a noble of Wetham Duchy) loses them rank. In addition, Champions defeated by such Renowned Blades are reduced to Known Blade rank.
    • The Grand Champion can challenge anyone of the Guild save Arbitrators, but only Defeat by a Named Champion loses him/her rank. In addition, Grand Champions defeated by Named Champions are reduced to Known Blade rank.
  • Use of the title "Champion" within the guild is strictly controlled. A Member calling themselves a Champion of a region or type that is not unrecognized by the guild (ex: "Champion of Keplerstan") will face demotion and/or expulsion from the Gathering at the Arbitrators discretion. Religious or Governmental titles (ex: "Champion of the Light") will be tolerated but strongly advised against use within Gathering related messaging. Religions interested in vetting a recognized martial champion of the faith are welcome to contact the Arbitrators.
  • Failure to meet an agreed upon challenge without good cause may, at the Arbitrators discretion, result in a loss of rank.
  • Blades and Arbitrators are expected to act as befitting their station when interacting with other members of The Gathering. Rivalries are fine, but acting improperly may, at the Arbitrators discretion, result in a loss of rank or expulsion.
  • There will be a minimum of two Arbitrators (or three, if the Founder is no longer a member) plus an additional Arbitrator added for every ten members in The Gathering. Arbitrators are tasked with upholding the Rules of The Gathering and insuring that records regarding challenges are kept up to date. If a consensus can not be reached by the Arbitrators regarding a breach of the rules, the Founder can cast the deciding vote. Otherwise the Founder has no say in Arbitrator decisions.
  • Blades are encouraged to promote The Gathering and wear the guild badge, both as an invitation to challenge to members and as a warning to nonmembers.
  • Protecting your honor protects the Guild's, likewise protecting The Gathering's honor protects yours, failure to protect either shames both.
