Background
The Southern War (sometimes coined The Xavax Wars) was a war which began in the southern hemisphere of the East Continent in the early months of 2016. The war can be referred to as a continental war, due to the large number of participants, however not all realms on the continent were directly involved.
Directly involved in the war in the Northern Alliance were Alara, Minas Nova, Perleone, Vix Tiramora, and Perdan. Opposing the Northern Alliance in the South was Greater Xavax and for the first half of the war Fallangard.
The aim of the war from the Northern perspective was to:
- Prevent the possible destruction of Alara and Minas Nova
- Prevent Greater Xavax from becoming large enough to contest the North.
However, due to the complexity of the war, there were several shifts to the maintenance of the aim, including religious zealotry and undead conspiracies.
Pre-War Events
After a long ice age, the ice on the East Continent finally began to recede, freeing many of the regions of the Southern East Continent from frigid stupor.
This thawing was favorably timed by the gods to coincide with the catastrophe of Atamara. With the sinking of the continent, many great noble families were left displaced and without homes. The thawing provided a large amount of space for emigrating nobles to land and create a new future. The new realms of Alara, Minas Nova, and Greater Xavax were created from the once snow covered lands for these incoming nobles.
A Southern Powderkeg
The Southern EC, once settled, was composed of the following:
- Alara controlled: Ejarr Puutl, Itor Boss, Noritor, Priotness and Itorunt.
The creation of several new realms within a secured and established continent created a high level of tension. The new realms, along with the already established realms of the South, scrambled for their diplomatic footing. What inevitably ensued was a mix of back door proposals between Alara, Minas Nova, Greater Xavax, Fallangard, and Perleone to declare war on one another.
The first real pre-war conflict was the defection of Itor Boss by then Alaran General Sayuki Kuriga to Greater Xavax. This placed GX in a position of power over Alara. GX, under Xerarch Magnus, offered promises of returning the region while prodding King Robb to attack Minas Nova. In the midst of the tension, Magnus was replaced by Selenia JeVondair as Xerarch. Due to a very imperialistic attitude, Selenia simply refused the Alaran request to have Itor Boss returned. Xerarch Selenia's expansionist attitude and her desire for subservient realms around her lead to the development of a network of alliances coordinated by King Robb Starfall of Alara to thwart the growing threat of Selenia's Greater Xavax.
Whether these alliances were a defense mechanism against Greater Xavax expansion or the precursor for invasion against Greater Xavax is negligible as they were rendered one in the same. In the end, Greater Xavax considered the alliances a direct provocation and made the move for war, declaring against Alara. This drew Minas Nova and Perleone into the war in defense of Alara.
The Southern War had begun.
