The Origin of Life

Millenias ago, the second age ended. Once again, the world ended, and the gods had to suffer the sadness of seing their creations die on the inhospitable land the world was. They had observed that their creation had stagnated, that energy stopped flowing, that, in short, the life force of their creations was slowly draining away.

The goddess, Sola, knew she could not do this again more than once, and the god, Lun, agreed. On top of the mighty pyramid their followers had created them, on the first day of the year, he sacrified himself, fertilising the plains like never before, planting the seed of all vegetation. His body slowly rose, and became what is now know as the moon. The goddess then followed, her blood nourishing all life as it flowed down the pyramid onto the world. The followers then raised her to the sky, and she became what most now call the sun, forever bringing warmth and light to the world even after her great sacrifice.

Pantheon

Sola

Roiio

Eagle god, protector of the people, origin of all royal blood, patron of rulers.

Sserth

Serpent goddess, god of tradition and culture, keeper of the faith, patron of priests.

Jahuan

Jaguar god, god of war, competition, strenght, and endurance, patron of military men.

Various Beliefs

The Undead

The undead are a sign that not enough live sacrifices have been offered to the gods to assure life to remain healty, such as leaves drying out if a plant does not receive enough water.

Women

Though not quite a matriarchal society, the woman is treated with outmost respect. Female priests often occupies high positions within the church. It is believed that women hold parts of Sola within them, causing them to bleed, as she did, every month untill they create life, at which point the blood stops spilling, just as hers. She also carries the blood for citizenship.

War Captives

In battle, it is much more honnourable to capture a foe alive than slaying him. Male prisonners can then be sacrificed to the gods to bless the realm, and women are given a chance to convert. If they accept they are usually hired by the church, if they refuse, they become slaves of the realm and are typically sent to remote rural regions.

The Blood Line

The typical member of the realm has both parents as citizens. Women may only become citizens by going through the ritual of integration. Men may become citizens if their mother was a citizen when she gave birth and by undergoing the ritual of integration, or if they marry a lady of the realm.

Religious Celebrations

The Ritual of Sacrifice (Winter)

On the shortest day of the year lies the greatest celebration. Willing freemen or nobles re-enact the creation of the world as we know it, the sacrifice of the gods. The festivities commence once the sacrifice, with a knife coated in royal blood, is completed. It is the most sacred day of the calendar.

The Ritual of Rebirth (Spring)

With the days becoming longer and all forms of life returning, the first day of spring is marked by festivities. Captives or willing followers are sacrificed, to be blessed by the arch priest before being devoured by the monarch and his family, to give him the strenght to govern.

The Ritual of Growth (Summer)

On the longest day of the year we celebrate life. We thank the gods for our blessings by sacrificing a large ammount of captives or willing followers. The festivities start early, and end with the sacrifices and offering of royal blood.

The Day of the Dead (Autumn)

The first day of autumn is marked by neither festivities nor sacrifices. It is a day to reflect on the past, the present, the future. Mass is always held on this day, and it is expected of followers to offer a small sacrifice to their god and commune with them.

Views on Other Religions

They are misguided. They are fools. They deserve no special attention unless they attempt to corrupt the souls of followers, in which case they should be sent to do forced labour in romote mines to help gather funds for the church. Faiths who oppose ritualistic sacrifices are blasphemous and must be purged from coverted lands.
