"'Isolationism'........ is that how you see it," asks Aldo as he leans back in his chair, "Interesting. Be this just your choice of words or do you really mean it, and for that matter how many might agree."

Looking up towards the ceiling he brings his feet up to rest on the table, "Tell me Tan, for you what's the most important thing about Melhed; what thing could you not remove without destroying that which we are?"

It's a difficult question I know, and it took me a long time to find an answer I was happy with, but do you know what I decided? We're not afraid.

Sounds rather silly don't you think? Three words; three words that children would say to themselves when confronting the dark hall, or the trip to the healer. Three words that grown men and women throw about with bravado and pride to display their worth.

But can you think of any words better able to describe, Bob's last stand against the Defensive Alliance, the famed Mad Charge of the Breakers, how our people refused to grovel when they were made slaves to foreign kings. Or in resent times, better words to describe, how people can say what they wish without worry, joke about electing the undead or 'my pig in a dress', how any can see even the most 'sensitive' documents of governance.

So you see Tan, whenever I am faced with an issue such as this I remember that we are not afraid and it is that which has lead to our freedom, our alliances, and our prosperity. For our kingdom can be moved to act out of compassion, friendship, honour, understanding, and countless more, but we will not be controlled by fear.

And so you see Tan we are not isolationists, because they hide out of fear and disdain from every form of contact and with what we've accomplished in the world we are hardly cut off. No, we have yet to march to war because we wish it so. Thus when the time is right we shall do what needs to be done and it is up to us to decide when that time has come.
