Just Court (an RP of one of Willem's days presiding over a Just Court session)

It was shortly after breaking the fast in the morning that Willem asked his estate manager, Franck, to bring him the robe that he wore while holding court.

- Going out for another round of Just Courts, Master Willem? The region's in better shape, thanks to you.

- Yes, Franck, I'm headed to the courts. But no, it isn't just thanks to me. Many Falasan knights, bureaucrats and heroes have all helped. But, you're welcome. I should be back in about 6 hours. Please do get the stables in order. Dame Ilya might stop by in a few days, I'd like for them to at least be presentable. Make sure that there is fresh hay for her mare, Fëalith. And plan on a decent meal for her men.

Willem raced to get to the court building, which was on the town square, opposite the open market. The bailiffs were lined up and waiting for him. The queue of litigants was long. Willem wondered to himself how he had been doing this for the last week or so. He knew nothing of the law, save what he read from a book left behind at the estate by the former owner. Just Courts and the Eston Population, a case study dealing with one of the Three kinds of Courts. He figured just to use common sense.

As he sat down, one of the clerks came rushing over.

- Marquis Tinsley?

- Yes, umn, what was your name again?

- Richard. Court Clerk Richard. Your robe, you've got it on backwards. Remember, we told you to let us help you with that. Some of the junior clerks, they've been talking. They think that perhaps you should leave your robe off. Not wear it.

- But I've been holding Just Courts twice a day. You knew that this robe was cumbersome and a few sizes too big. I look like a clown in it. And just now you tell me that I might be able to not wear it? Thanks alot, guys.

- Well, some of them, the older ones especially, think that you should always wear it. But there's talk going around that since this is Just Court, you could show the people that you're a regular man. Not just the Marquis. They'd still respect you and all, but it doesn't quite feel right. Sets the wrong tone. Now, when you plan to hold Harsh Court, wear the robe. Mercy Court, I'd probably wear it, but then show mercy and grace. It will impress on the people that come before you that you could be cruel, but are lenient. I'd leave the robe off for Just Courts. But do dress smartly. I've seen you show up at this very building in that same jerkin and leggings that you're wearing now. What about what you had on the time that King Gucky appointed you Marquis? That was smartly dressed. Although that lady beside you. Whoa. She's good looking. I haven't seen her around her much. She was always talking to the old folks and playing with the kids when she wasn't training her troops.

- That, Richard, is Dame Ilya Bluelake, of Menedor. We'll talk of her later. Right now it seems that the line of people waiting to be heard has grown. Here, help me off with this robe.

Six hours of, "he stole my cow," "their dead tree fell onto my stream and it is diverting the water from my gardens," and "she sold me a basket of turnips, but some were rotten" was more than Willem could take. Especially knowing that he'd be back at it after the evening meal.
