When the Thunthorn family decided to take a more active part in the war Ilias was selected to undergo officer's training. After undergoing basic leadership training at the academy in Sirion City he took an oath as a knight of Flismar left for the front in the ongoing war Sirion fights against most of the neighbouring states.

He has so far never left that front. He has made a fast career in the Army of Sirion in which he currently serves as Marshal. He has led the Army in some great victories but also in some spectacular defeats. Notable deeds by the army under his command includes the assault of Oroya in which the former Sultan of the Sultanate of Asena Korkut Kalkandelen fell in battle, many battles in Tabost and a very successful defence of Caqueta against the Sultanate.

Notable defeats includes two bad defeats in Commonyr where the Army was badly decimated.
