April Toren Rebellion:

Kail converted
24 April 2007 (Falens) by Lynsey Habap
An action that may seal the fate of Toren, the people of Kail hailed Taselak as their new realm. This reduces Toren to a mere 8 regions and cuts the capital off from most of the realm. Thus far, no reports from outlying regions have reached Taselak City, but one imagines that the confidence of normal Toren peasants in their theocracy has been shaken. Apparently, some of them feel that lack of proper faith in Tor on the part of Toren leaders has led their god to turn against them. It is unclear what affect, if any, that will have on the ability of those leaders to continue leading. Rumors of heresy at the highest levels could not be confirmed.
13 regions?
20 April 2007 (Neralle) by Lynsey Habap
Having listened to Karibash the Boastful claim to be a brilliant leader and fantasize about killing Taselakian nobles, the army of Taselak was grateful for the presence of the Pub-Mobile. The maps on the walls of the Pub-Mobile were changed as Lesthem returned to Taselakian control. This places a lucky 13 regions in their control and limits the Toren realm to a mere 9 regions. Since the realms had been trading the Sisters (Seggelin and Lesthem) back and forth for a few months, this seems to represent a breakthrough in the apparent stalemate. One wonders if this will mark the downfall of the Toren dictatorship.
Spies, who needs 'em?
20 April 2007 (Neralle) by Lynsey Habap
As reported previously, Taselak eschews spies. Of late, Karibash the Paranoid is claiming that Zellion was a Taselakian spy. None of the rebels had any interaction (other than the publishing of Zellion's manifesto to the leaders of both Taselak and Ikalak) with Taselak and, to our knowledge, none have claimed to be spies of Taselak. Of course, Karibash can dream that it is not the rudeness of Toren leadership, nor their continual failures on the battlefield that inspired rebellion, but with the variety of dissenting factions struggling for power in Toren Stronghold, some credence must be lent to these other factors.
Dungeons crowded, Homus Cornelius buried in work
19 April 2007 (Neralle) by Sennianus the Mad
Another page in Torens "Big Book of Blunders" was written today in Neralle. The Torenites tried their very best to reconquer the region from Taselak, but failed miserably. At sunset, the armies of Taselak attacked the Torenites, and demonstrated once again why Toren just had a rebellion: Torenite leadership is unable to turn their advantage into actual victories.

Speaking of Torenite leadership... one must wonder who is in charge there, now that pretty much the entire command echelon of Toren is incapacitated. Pontifex Averyll and Haruspex Gheros are safely tucked away in the Taselakian dungeons - along with half a dozen other Torenites - and Paladin Hackem, Duke Cyperus and Marshal Gaius Julius lie unconscious on the battlefield.

Morale in Taselak is better than it already was, now that Toren has been dealt yet another humiliating defeat. The Pub-mobile can hardly supply enoigh booze to keep the celebrations going, as more brave nobles rise up everyday to defend Taselak from the elusive Ikalakians and the pitiful Torenites.

List of Rebels, Loyalists and Others Published
17 April 2007 (Lesthem) by Lynsey Habap
Suprisingly, a listing of the rebels, loyalists and others appeared in print. Notably, none of the members of the Toren Reform Party (TRP) are listed as rebels - some are listed as loyalists, others as neutral. This could indicate fractures even amongst the opposition.

With limited information coming out of Toren Stronghold, our reporters have been unable to determine whether Ikalakan agents have anything to do with the rebellion or the composition of the "Loyalist" faction.

Coordination denied
19 April 2007 (Lesthem) by Lynsey Habap
Taselak has been accused of "coordinating" with the rebels. Cronos, King of Taselak, denied these charges:
I will not deny supporting the rebellion once it was initiated but how someone could say it was coordinated with our actions! From what i understand it was simply the rebels being fed up by yet another loss of a region and taking advantage of the army leaving the capital...as rebels do.

When you consider the continual victories of Taselak in this 2-on-1 war and the number of nobles in Toren who are unhappy, wouldn't you think Taselak would have coordinated a rebellion that had at least some chance of success? 6 nobles and 100 men hardly constitute a chance of success. It has been reported that the underground was infiltrated by several loyalists, who remained in the capital with large units, ensuring that the militia and those units would defeat the rashly-acting Zellion and his co-conspirators.

It surprising with the nobles who consider Averyll to be a dictator (as she does herself), Gheros to be an embezzler (notice her gigantic unit of loyalists and the number of nobles who cannot afford ANY men) and Karibash the Paranoid to be incompetent that a rebellion was not launched sooner.

Odd also that Karibash hasn't noticed the defection of many nobles or that they might serve as a source of information after they join Taselak. While I do keep my eyes and ears open, I have yet to secure any purveyors of inside information among the remaining Toren nobles.

Rebellion in Toren: Averyll announces dictatorship, Zellion launches rebellion, factions abound!
16 April 2007 (Neralle) by Lynsey Habap
A rebellion has broken out against Averyll after her statement reminding Toren nobles that she is Pontifex for life and only her vote counts for anything. The leader of the rebellion, Zellion, issued a statement calling for armed rebellion against what he regards as a dictatorship.

Since Zellion is not listed as a member of the Toren Reform Party (TRP), one must assume that there are at least three factions involved in the current internal struggle - the TRP, Zellion's rebels and the recently announced Toren Victory Party (TVP). Since Averyll has stated that she belongs to no party, perhaps there are actually 4 factions involved, with Averyll and the militia alone in her faction.

Classic defeat in detail
10 April 2007 (Neralle) by Lynsey Habap
In a classic example of a defeat in detail, four nobles and their troops from Taselak encountered and routed a larger force of Toren leaders and troops augmented by angry peasants in Kail. The Toren troops were fleeing from a recent defeat in Neralle and trying to avoid battle. With more than half of their forces starting out at the back of the formation and out of range of the fight, Toren forces met the Taselakians piece-meal. The peasants and three of the smaller infantry units suffered mightily while facing the united Taselakian troops. By the time the other half of the Toren forces reached the fight, they faced those units nearly alone. Thus, despite facing greater numbers of enemy troops, Taselak's forces triumphed, defeating small details of the Toren forces in turn to win the battle.

Neralle, Too?
10 April 2007 (Neralle) by Lynsey Habap
Peasants in Neralle appear to be growing weary of Toren rule and are being swayed by the swords of Taselak. Just as in prior takeover attempts in Kail, the confidence of Toren nobility might be shaken if the region falls into our hands. Word of discontent among Toren nobles is widespread, as the Toren Reform Party grows in numbers with no corresponding "pro-government" party in existence. Without the confidence of the nobility, it is hard to imagine the current administration surviving yet another setback.
The Sisters back in Taselak hands
10 April 2007 (Neralle) by Lynsey Habap
Once again, the Sisters (Seggelin and Lesthem) are returned to Taselak hands. Despite the best efforts of Karibash the Loud, Averyll "The Butcher of Lesthem" Arete and Sir Hackem the Suicidal, victory for Toren continues to be elusive.

Recent battles have been the scene of utter destruction of Toren forces, with numbers only favoring Toren once (which resulted in a severe loss anyway). After the last battle in Lesthem, simple Toren troop leaders even expressed their dismay over their leaders action aloud, whilst the two armies collected their wounded, sharing words as well as drinks.
