Talk:War 2.0

HeyYa Tom, long time to see. Someone remembered my character from years ago (I haven't played for 2 years or more) and chatting with him brought back a whole lot of pleasant memories. BM has been a paradigm for me, and I've played all sortsa browser-based MPOGs. So "War 2.0" sounds like a charm! (BTW: I don't call myself a programmer but I do code Ajax/Web2.0 ... JS/PHP/MySQL.)
cheers! --BenTrem 06:56, 16 April 2008 (CEST)

Ooh, I wonder what this will be like? Can't wait to find out. House Olik 18:14, 12 December 2007 (CET)

Something tells me it will be the War Islands Mk. 2. Tom mentioned sinkinging one of the war islands when Dwilight comes, so I'm guessing War 2.0 will replace it. -Andrasta 18:27, 12 December 2007 (CET)

there I was thinking it might be a new (ie.. tweaked) battle system. --Fodder 20:48, 12 December 2007 (CET)

lol, your kinding us right? I mean the way your presenting it... it looks kinda, hollywood-ish... --Vlad 19:47, 12 December 2007 (CET)

  • that's perfect for war islands. No RP, just WAR!!! -Andrasta 20:06, 12 December 2007 (CET)

That's just speculation though, it may not be directly related to the war islands at all. Malitia 21:21, 12 December 2007 (CET)

A complete reset and one of the war islands being replaced by Dwilight maybe? Medium 21:42, 12 December 2007 (CET)

Whatever it is, I'm excited. The suspense is killing me... --Simon

All awesome...can't wait! I just wish there was a need for the old fashion pen-ink-artist these days in technology...sigh. Anyway, anyway I can help, I am a devoted player and will [lay until it is forcfully removed from my dead hands! GO TOM! Vashmere 04:05, 9 January 2008 (CET)

Complete Overhaul?

Well, there does seem to have been general discontent about the direction BattleMaster has travelled in recently. Peace is more sought after than war. Players look for power and once they get it, do little to jeopardise it. There are fewer and fewer extant realms as time goes on. There's a seemingly prevailing idea that battles should become more complicated. Perhaps now were going to see something that completely breaks with what has gone on before? Something to really shake things up a bit and really revive the war ethic for us all. Lets also remember that Tom has had a couple of other coders on board recently as well - so it's possible that something big will happen. Though honestly, whatever happens I will be intrigued to see what War 2.0 does for BM --Revan 03:15, 13 December 2007 (CET)

Out of context?

I know Tom's said that BM's all about the medieval setting and the like, but:

And while we're at it, let's bring BattleMaster into the 21st century

Part of me wants this to be a subtle hint saying Tom's rolling out a Dune-esqe future medieval conflict game. It really, really does. Dangit, I want the same style interface as BM, but I want a fleet! Something I can orbitally bombard a planet back into the stone age with. Sigh, but BM is not about that. - Baatarsaikhan 06:45, 9 January 2008 (CET)

  • He probably meant 21st century for the coding. As in changing from PHP + SQL to all those things mentioned there (most of which I haven't even heard of yet ^_^). - Nylen 14:52, 9 January 2008 (CET)

Just think! Battle Master + Medival : Total War! Instant win in my book ;)

I'm not entirely sure what it suggest, but, something perhaps to do with Magic and SpellMaster? I'm still trying to figure out why it's possible to pass a law that makes magic illegal. --JonniT 22:48, 17 January 2008 (CET)

  • Uhm the text was pretty clear that it is to rewrite the code to make it more modern and eliminate the bugs what that makes. --M2rt 01:35, 18 January 2008 (CET)
M2rt, let us speculate. Makes it more interestin. As for why magic is illegal, ever heard of the Salem Witch Trials? Not exactly medieval but magic was shunned (real or not) throughout most of history in different societies. --Kag 08:46, 17 April 2008 (CEST)

Status?

So, how far in is this project? Any estimated time of completion? -Chénier 17:53, 14 September 2008 (CEST)

Progress is slow, and last I heard from Tom, he was having a pretty hectic time at his real job, and thus wasn't particularly in the mood to be devoting lots of time to writing code after work...or even dealing with other coders, I guess. Will try and check in with him soon and see if he can at least give the other devs a little more direction. --Anaris 22:59, 15 September 2008 (CEST)
