Interesting idea...I would love to join such a guild, should it ever come to Itorunt or our allies. --The1exile 25 March 2006 14:36 (CET)

not good

I don't like the idea of duelling as a sport, sorry. It was never seen as a sport by the participants anytime in human history. And as a roleplaying tool it should be for defending your honour, etc.

Not quite what I had intended it for.

Dueling as a sport

I believe that the guild is using dueling solely because swordfighting matches (as in tournaments) are not supported by the game mechanic.

That's the entire point you don't go slashing a sharp sword at someone for sport. If you've never seen the wounds that swords or large knives can do, google a bit, then you'll understand why nobody in his right mind will take that risk "for fun". --Tom 23:12, 5 December 2006 (CET)
Duelings not alright, but people slashing at each other in tournaments is perfectly alright? The guild puts forward protection, hence why it only allows duels til first blood and why it charges monthly fees. The EIDA isn't the only guild that encourages dueling as a form of sport, there's atleast one other on the EI, and there's the ADA (Atamara Dueling Association) on Atamara. --Kag 23:18, 5 December 2006 (CET)
Both swordfighting and jousting are undoubtedly dangerous. No one is denying that. The nobles that belong to the EIDA do not view what they do as "duels of honor", more as a test of skills among members. That is why they use the least "dangerous" of the dueling options. If there was another way to test their skills against each other, then that would be used instead. Perhaps an option of a "Sparring Match" using practice swords would serve to better illustrate the idea of EIDA. --Indirik 23:22, 5 December 2006 (CET)
Inidirk got my point accross very well (better than myself actually). The EIDA doesn't see duels as duels of honor, much more like sparing matches, as they would do in academies. It's a test of skills as those in the guild view it. We only "sanction" duels of the lowest danger level because the EIDA doesn't want it's members getting hurt. If a new duel option was added, I'd have absolutely no problem changing what the duel "sanctions". --Kag 23:26, 5 December 2006 (CET)
This guild only records sanctioned duels of those to the first blood only. I don't know what kind of scene you depicted when you decided to use the phrase "first blood", but I would imagine it's something like the both participants engage in a friendly match in light set armours until one side gets the first bleeding wound, then they would say "Let's drop it." And they would have the idea on whose skill prevail over the other one. I think to decribe this as a "sport" is improper, it's rather like some kind of "social activity", but I think it is an acceptable practice. -- Gsklee 03:49, 6 December 2006 (CET)
