Firstly this is medevial times not WW-II, different technologies. Secondly Hilter represents an idea of genocide that really did happen. I appreciate your atempt at humour, but you really are offending real life people (as opposed to Doc et al) on a community wiki system. Perhaps you don't understand the gravity of what Hitler did? Carriantor 30 March 2006 17:07 (CEST)

Yes but the Charlie Chaplin film itself was striking out against Hitler and Nazism. It ridiculed Hitlers beliefs and showed the world what was really happening when some were still turning a blind eye. Of course, it was made before the full extent of Hitlers atrocities were revealed but the fact remains that this wasnt an endorsement of the genocide Hitler committed. - Revan

The Images were objectionable to who? Surely Satirical images of Hitler, edited to be satirical images of Doc and co. are not really insulting? -Revan March 30, 2006 09:44 (CEST)

If anyone actually was offended, they might want to discuss the issue with Mr. Chaplin before anyone else's feelings are stepped on. Personally I thought it was appropriate and funny, and completely within the spirit of the film. - Murakama 30 March 2006 11:31 (CEST)

I don't see how the images were inappropriate. Boo for their removal! - LilWolf March 30, 2006 14:49 (CEST)

One way to sort this then. Lets have a vote on the issue! I say 24 Hours from the time of this edit to vote! Put your name under either Yes or No using the three tildes (~~~) syntax - Revan March 30, 2006 15:09 (CEST)
Some discussion in IRC opened my eyes as to why the images should be removed. They can spark some discussion that doesn't belong here. - LilWolf March 30, 2006 18:16 (CEST)
Look. Censorship does not belong in the BM community. Everyone has the right to say what they want, as long as it doesn't offend someone. And when satire is not accepted, then something is wrong. When you satirize something, you don't do it because you want to offend someone. You do it because it's fun, and because it passes the message you want in a humorous way.

Charlin Chaplin is maybe the most famous comedian in the world history. Deleting everything that reminds you of his existence will not make him -or the things he satirised- go away. Just deal with it. It's satire. Not personal attacks! : Rania

Wake up! This is Europe right? Censhorship for a popular american movie images? Come on! Get serious! - Dimitris April 14, 2006 21:43 (CEST)

Do the Images Contained within this article Offend you?

Revan, My guess is that you are from US? You were never occupied by the germans. hundreds of civilians werent executed there each day. Here - in Norway, which was quite hard hit by the occupation, many people would have been offended by something as small as your little comment here
I personally dont have any problems with it though.
England actually. And I'm beginning to sense the subject of Hitler and the Nazis is somewhat more taboo in Continental Europe than it is here - Revan
Nylen - Why is everyone so obsessed about Hitler but not about Stalin for example? There are so many out there who killed millions and nobody has a problem with making fun of them... and this is Charlie Chaplin dressed up as Hitler (as far as I can tell) anyway.
Eirik felde 30 March 2006 18:45 (CEST) -
Indirik - The satirical images are obviously intended to be humorous commentary, and not offensive towards the losses suffered by many groups during the holocaust. This is obviously not an attempt to mislead, propagandize, or deny what happened. This is not a case where you need to defend against a revisionist or propagandistic view of the events that occured during that time. If you don't like what you see on these pages, then don't read them.
Marouane 30 March 2006 19:26 (CEST)
Rania No!
Dimitris April 14, 2006 21:43 (CEST) Certainly not! I'm personally against any form of censhorship
All 1 billion people who have seen the "Great Dictator" by Charlin Chaplin...and laughed!

Copyright?

Personally, I'm not offended (and my family was effected by the holocaust, so to speak) since it is satire. But these are the requirments for uploading a picture to the battlemaster wiki:

  1. You own the copyright to it. (You created the image or took the photo.)
  2. You have permission to use it. (The person who created the image specifically told you that you could use it on this site, or has given everyone explicit permission to use it anywhere.)
  3. It is in the public domain. (In the EU, this is after the author has been dead for 70 years.)

Do these pictures satisfy these requirments? I doubt it. AlexTurner 30 March 2006 19:47 (CEST)

While they would not own the copyright to the images, I would imagine that modifying them and using them as they did meets the provisions of either fair use and/or satirical use. IANAL, and all that jazz. Indirik 30 March 2006 20:11 (CEST)

They are screenshots of a movie, that they have processed and altered digitally, thus no protected from copyrights and images taken from collector's pages, freely circulated at the internet (which is fortunately not strictly regulated yet and information can flow relatively free) Dimitris April 14, 2006 21:43 (CEST)

Dalakar brought back the text and I did the same. Why is this happening and who is messing with it? At least, say something so we know the reason behind it. The page is still there, but why the comments are being deleted time after time? Is there a specific reason for this or is it for instance a "bug"?--Paris 10 March 2006 05:18 (CET)

I like it! It's very funny! Great job. :) Rania

This is halarious! I'm killing myself laughing! You've done a lot of work here and it's impressive. Though I bet you're a dead man for this, especially the last picture. Maybe make a link to the Shrine to Doc I mean we laugh at Doc but we respect his player at the same time. ;)--Dalakar March 10, 2006 01:18 (CET)

I agree, I just skimmed through looking at the pictures, and I can tell it's probably hilarious. It's tempting to put a reference to this in the Perdan Pride.

The Avamar Times should join OCPU! Just add in your realm and editor signatures in the correct places and... we can add your views to the OCPU(if you join it'd be OCPAU) vs. Itorunt Informer journalism war! Vellos 10 March 2006 02:27 (CET)

I am not sure if this would be in any kind beneficial. :) Avamar Times, as well as "Doc-Umentaries" C.C., both serve a different purpose and function in a slightly different way. You may compare the texts a bit and you will find it out yourself, I believe. --Paris 10 March 2006 04:42 (CET)

Oh Paris, shut up. This is the single greatest page on the battlemaster wiki and you know it. If the function is being awesome, then it has fulfilled it's function.--One 10 March 2006 04:46 (CET)

I was replying to the OCPU invitation, Josh. This page rocks... :) --Paris 11 March 2006 19:23 (CET)

My apologizes then, Paris. --One 12 March 2006 00:38 (CET)

Haha! That was hilarious. My condolences to Avamar. I love the creativity!

Okay someone deleted all this for some reason, so I've put it back. --Dalakar March 10, 2006 05:07 (CET)

I'm glad that you liked it! :-))) Avamar still rocks!

These pictures are a satirical take on a satirical film, they are meant as jokes. If they offend you, that says more about you than about the people who made them. And please, don't speak in the name of people who you don't know. That's pretty disrespectful as well.Marouane

Haha! I had forgotten about this page! Why don't you move it to humour pages? It is hilarious! DerTrottel 15:50, 8 March 2007 (CET)
