Elise Surcliffe was the first member of the Surcliffe family to venture outside their home estate at the young age of 17 with a green unit of sixteen archers and the small amount of money her family could front for this endeavor. She first became aware of the political scene after prompting from her parents, in which she wrote to the Marchioness of her home region, Melania Rahl about a possible engagement for Gelene Outskirts. It was through good grace and luck that the Marchioness Melania extended an oath offer to Elise after some rather inarticulate blundered attempts at letters. And thus began Elise's first step out into the world.

The Austere Company

Elise joined the Austere Order soon after officially becoming a Dame. At the time, Astrum was in the midst of a war with Everguard, and for her first few bumbling weeks, she attempted to follow the orders given to her and got her first taste of battle. Her first fight was a good one, she lost none of her men and it was simple enough that Elise was able to get her feet wet in the art of combat. It was enough to make her blood rush. Her second battle was not so easy. A bloody affair that one was, and Elise lost all but a few of her men. It was no longer exhilarating, now it was just war. And Elise soon recruited another unit of archers from the capital. To this day she still mans the same exact unit, with a few more additions along the way, thus was born the first Austere Company, which all Surcliffe pay homage to by naming their units after.

Gelene Outskirts

Elise soon grew to love her home region. She had grown up there, but never really seen more than her family estates. As Marchioness Melania's Dame, she was able to travel the breadth and width of Gelene Outskirts and actually get to know her people and customs. It was simple enough to take that love and turn it into devotion. For truly, Elise had yet to see any region quite so wondrous as this one and she loved every square inch of it.

This was compounded by her relationship with her Lady Melania. Melania had taken Elise under her wing, and taught her the ways of the world. She had pushed Elise to come into her own, waiting patiently for her to grow out of her shy exterior and into the woman Melania knew she could be. She offered guidance and wisdom for even the most foolhardy things Elise brought up, and they shared both good times and bad times, relishing in each others accomplishments. They corresponded frequently, Elise asking questions and Melania offering advice. This bond soon grew, and they became more than just a lady and her vassal, but instead true friends.

The Wanderers Dream

After Everguard was defeated, Elise spent her time training her unit and fighting in random monster battles. She often heard tales of far off realms and began to dream lofty things. Mostly, she wished that she would get the chance to travel to Thulsoma, the realm which was an ultimate testament to perseverance. This dream began as a small coal, and soon it drew in tinder and began to burn brightly. She had seen enough of Astrum, been back and forth and back and forth enough times to dread those horrible roads. She was young too, and the thought of such battles and the glory that came with them was a sweet promise on the wind. Through conversation with her Lady Melania, Elise began to design a plan on how she might draw this far away dream down to earth.

In the midst of their planning however, it was announced that a campaign to Corsanctum would be organized, so that Astrum could help with the monster infestation there. Her Lady was considerate enough as to appoint Elise to the campaign, reassigning her to the Warders of the Island Citadel army for the duration of the operation. It was a most glorious experience, and it certainly expunged most of Elise's wish for travel. The battles were amazing, with the numbers of monsters something she had never seen before and Elise's prestige took a large jump in just a few days. It was an extremely honorable task given to them, to help the knights of Corsanctum in clearing out their land and everyone included in those fights established a true bond. It was here that Elise had the opportunity to take on the mantle of Second in Command for a time.

The Silver Order

Since the first day Count Telamond announced the opening of a new guildhouse in his region of Duil, Elise harbored hopes of joining. The Silver Order, a group dedicated to spreading the ideals of chivalry was as best a fit as anything she had ever heard of before, and she knew that there would be a place for her there. Something precious and glorious. Elise requested leave from the Austere Order in order to take a trip to Duil. There, she gave her oath to Grandmaster Telamond and was one of the first to be initiated into their ranks. She quickly paid her fees and became a Silver Paladin of the Order and soon thereafter due to an event with the Grandmaster, she was appointed to the rank of Grandmistress of the Sword. When Telamond decided to leave Astrum in order to keep his children safe, he left Elise in charge of the Silver Order.
