History

The history of the duchy is a troubled one. The first attempt to bring the unruly city under the Lurian banner failed. Due to internal problems, the Lurian king did not appoint a Duke, which caused the city to revolt almost immediately. A few days after it was taken over by Lurian forces, Giask was declared an independent city again by its people. A second takeover was launched, and the new Lurian ruler, Queen Alanna, appointed the former Marquis of Askileon Purlieus, Ludovico Sforza, as Duke of Giask. He immediately began an aggressive persecution of rebels, throwing many of them behind lock and key. To this day, the peasants of Giask resent their Lurian rulers, and it is only through constant, widespread policing that the city is kept under Ludovico's thumb. Meanwhile, the armies of the Duke are busy conquering more lands for Giask. So far, Outer Giask and Orz have sworn allegiance to Giask, and more regions are sure to follow soon, be they newly conquered provinces, or dissatisfied lords of Pian en Luries bringing their regions under the Giasken banner.

Provinces

Giask

Governor: Duke Diodorus Exiled, Grand Imperator of Pian en Luries

The city of Giask has the potential to grow into the most powerful and influential city of East Dwilight. Today, roughly 25,000 people inhabit the city, but scholars and engineers have mentioned that the vast plains on which the city stands could give a home to as many of 200,000. To achieve this goal, massive aounts of gold are being pumped into the city. Barracks, shops and other buildings are rising out of the ground like mushrooms, and up to 200 peasants and immigrants make a home in Giask every day.

Outer Giask

Governor: Marquis Christopher Vando, Marshal of the Guardians of Giask

If Giask has the potential to become the most powerful city of East Dwilight, then perhaps the outskirts of the city have the potential to become the most powerful townsland? Many people who had their sights set on a new life in Giask have settled in Outer Giask instead, and as such, the province is rapidly expanding, at a relatively greater rate than its namesake city.

Orz

Governor: Count Kammar d'Serrai

Much plagued by monsters during its independence, Orz was brought under the Lurian banner shortly after Outer Giask. As a rural area, Orz is a vital link in the Giasken chain, as the growing city needs large amounts of food to keep its peasants alive.

Santoo

Governor: Count Reginald Fortran

One of the first regions wrenched from rogues by Pian en Luries, Santoo has been a part of the duchy of Askileon since immediately after Ludovico Sforza aligned his own province of Askileon Purlieus with Askileon. Count Reginald Fortran, one of the few Lurians that Ludovico actually considers a friend, joined Ludovico in Giask after growing dissatisfied with the way Askileon was run.

Military

The Guardians of Giask

The Guardians of Giask were founded by Ludovico as the Guardians of Askileon, when he was still a vassal to Duchess Marie Euphrasia le Fois. When he became the Duke of Giask, Ludovico took the Guardians with him, renaming them after the city shortly after. Led by Marquis Christopher Vando and Kammar d'Serrai, the Guardians are the backbone of the Giasken military. They are primarily tasked with bringing new lands under the Giasken banner, but they have also been deployed against monsters and undead.

All nobles of the duchy of Giask are assigned to the Guardians. When they have extensively proven themselves as Guardians, they may or may not be approached to join the Sabre of Giask.

The Sabre of Giask

The Sabre of Giask was created by Ludovico for one reason: to better organize his raids into rogue lands. Led by the Duke himself, with Nnaoj Urominiel as second-in-command, the Sabre has raided the provinces of Cadier, Irvington, Garuck Udor, Thar Gortauth, Aveston and the Moon Bay, robbing money and valuables worth well over 3,000 gold. This practice is widely criticised by several Lurian nobles, claiming thievery is not the way to success, but so far, the Sabre has not given any indications that they will cease their raids any time soon.
