The Great War

Summary prior to the record keeping

This continent wide war on the Eastern Continent sprung forth from two separate wars.

To the north the City State of First Oligarch secceeded from Sirion. While peace was initially sought by the Oligarchians (then still called the Duchiess of Southern Sirion) the Senate of Sirion refused talks and declared war upon the newly formed city state, which in turn adopted the customs of Oligarch. A bloody war was waged which lasted for several decades (Ooc, in game years and several RL years). While the war was originally considered an internal Sirionite matter, when the Oligarchians gained the upper hand in the war and sieged the city of Krimml the combined forces of the north intervened. So the involvement of the realms of Caligus, Eponllyn, Nivemus and later the realm of Shadowdale which separated itself from Sirion during this civil war, but sided with her former overlord.

Meanwhile to the south the ice had begun to retreat and so the far south once more became inhabitable. Great noble houses from foreign lands quickly found their way from their own sinking lands to the far south of the East Continent. From these foreigners three realms emerged, Minas Nova, Alara and Greater Xavax. The latter quickly rose to power and posessed a far greater number of landed nobility willing to lead forced into battle. The two other foreign realms as well as the old local realm of Perleone felt threathened by this rise of power and the ambition of the Xavaxians and a war ensued. As the Xavaxians threathened to gain the upper hand and risk upsetting the balance of power in the south, the realms of Perdan and Vix Tiramora decided to intervene.

The realms of First Oligarch and Greater Xavax were both defeated by the sheer number of allied realms and forces thrown at them and collapsed shortly after each other. Shortly before their collapse however the northern realms started to send aid to the Xavaxians and the southeners started to send aid to the Oligarchians, although both sides were too late and both realms were destroyed. This aid created tension however and the Northern realms even began sending troops south in an attempt to save Greater Xavax, who had promised them aid against the south and so the seeds of the Great War were placed.

At the beginning of the war the South quickly made ground and took the capital of Domus from Caligus. A great battle was fought in order to prevent it Battle_to_Free_Domus but the south prevailed. The realm of Highmarch was formed from Caligus after this. The people of Oligarch fled towards the realm of Highmarch temporarily after their destruction and continued the war which had now started between the north and the south. The people of Xavax in turn fled to Sirion who had promised them to reclaim their lands of origin. Later a contingent of the Xavaxians defected to the south after making a deal with the Oligarchians and Highmarch.

When great internal conflict erupted in The Great Kingdom of Perdan this Xavaxian contingent and the Oligarchians moved to Perdan to settle permanently. Powers inside Highmarch used this opportunity of chaos to turn Highmarch against Perdan and ultimately even had Highmarch switch sides in the war. Meanwhile a rebellion in Perleone left it's mark on the far south. Where originally the realms of Alara, Minas Nova and Perleone fought alongside the allied Southern Forces, a internal war erupted in the far south facing off Alara and Minas Nova against Perleone. This brings us to the current state of the war:
