Old Gods/Structure

So you've decided to join the Temple of the Old Gods, but aren't sure what to do next. Generally each Follower is encouraged to find their own way, but here are some suggested paths that people have tried which you might find interesting. Along with each brief summary is a starting activity you can use to introduce yourself to the larger community.


Path Description Starting Quest
1) The Unknown Just reminder that you can always make your own path. The suggestions bellow are just that, suggestions. If you've got another idea feel free to get creative! You'll have to tell us!
2) The Vanquisher Tragedy and horror stalk the land of Beluaterra in the hideous shapes of monsters. The beasts kill and destroy so much it's any wonder there are people left. You yourself may have lost someone, or perhaps you merely wish to stand against the tide. Either way, there is plenty of ichor to spill. You could always tell a story of your first kill. No doubt it was quite the challenge! If you're feeling especially brave, tackle a group of monsters alone and then share your exploits. Can you beat the previous kill count?
3) The Scholar Those who join the Scholars seek to explore the history and myths of our world. Passionate about stories, many of the legends and rituals come from their tireless efforts to translate ancient monster texts and uncover records of the past. You could create a new myth or legend about either a God, or a region of the world. Or take an existing myth and make a new rendition.
4) The Ranger There are many mystic sites scattered across Beluaterra, some have been mapped, others have not. The Rangers are those Followers who wish to roam far from the civilized lands and uncover some of the ancient mysteries native to the land itself. To start off choose a mystic site and undertake a pilgrimage. You could go alone, or journey with another if you wish. No doubt the quest will be fraught with danger and perhaps one or more Gods might even bless you on the way.
5) The Driven Sometimes the Gods come to you. Perhaps a mysterious sage or witch muttered about your future, or strange figures haunt your dreams. Either way being marked by a God is the start of a tragic tale of equal parts greatness and anguish. No doubt the whispers and commands of the Gods are a confusing jumble of dreams. Your quest for answers has brought you here, feel free to approach various players with questions about what you should do next. Or drag one of them off on some quest you don't fully understand, but feel compelled to complete.
6) The Augur Some people are 'blessed' by the Ice Queen. Blessed with visions and prophetic dreams. Blessed with madness. No doubt you've struggled to sleep for a while now, and are looking for answers. Thankfully though those with Augur Blood are rare, there are others who can help. For your introduction you can explore the chaos of unrestrained prophecy or perhaps you'd like to reveal aspects of your training to tame the visions.
7) The Foederati Hidden in the wilds are the descendants of the first colonists. They are a strange people of reclusive tribes, hunted by beasts and shunned by outsiders. Some few Foederati leave their tribes to visit the kingdoms of Beluaterra, where their skills at monster hunting can be put to the test. Foederati are born, not made. If you are choosing to walk this path it will be with a new adventurer who has much to learn about the ways of the world. You might even be able to teach a thing or two yourself.
8) The Guardian Some are called to defend their fellows as priests, to stand as exemplars of humanity and push back against the tide. Maybe you'll join the warrior-priests and spend your days helping the commoners against the beasts. Or the scholar-priests, tending the temples and lorehouses. It can be a lonely road, but the good works of those called to serve live on for eternity. Taking the role of priest after just joining a religion is a bold choice, but some aspect of the lore & mythology must speak to you. Make sure you share what that is with others!
9) The Awakened The Awakened are the eclectic elders of the temple each weaving their own path through the world. The only thing they have in common is their dedication to the larger community and a vague acceptance to handle budgetary matters. Much like 'The Unknown' you'll have to tell us what you want.
