His Story

The Journey Begins

After recieving word of his father's death at the hand of Taselak, Emmitt II set out from Bolgar for revenge. He traveled across the sea to the South-East Island, and chose to join Ikalak upon arriving, as his father Emmitt had always spoken highly of it. To his dismay, Emmitt II was soon to learn that the Ikalak his father knew was no more.

He began on the same path his father had taken, fighting bravely in many battles and soon becoming a Hero. However, things weren't looking very good for Ikalak. The realm was losing a 2-on-1 war, regions were being lost, and gold was becoming somewhat scarce. Prime Minister Alanna Anaris sent out a request that all nobles should write home to their families and ask for money. To Emmitt II this seemed strange, since the Judge Bulletin strictly forbid nobles from sending any money home to their families. How could the High Council feel it was acceptable to take monetary assistance from the families of Ikalak's nobles, but at the same time enforce strict penalties on any noble who sent any money to his family?

Dollars & Sense

So being that Ikalak was a Republic, he decided to make his opinion heard. He sent a message to the High Council requesting they review this rule based on these two scenarios:

If a family was to donate money to Ikalak, and this donation ultimately helped preserve the realm, the noble who donated should not be punished for sending money back home to repay his family's generous loan. Conversely, if the realm did fall, any noble who donated should not be penalized for trying to recover his family's loan before the Realm of Ikalak was dissolved.

Emmitt II felt he was doing the right thing by pointing out a possible oversight made by the Council, and protecting both himself and the other members of the Republic. The Prime Minister's reply was not at all what he expected.

Alanna called him foolish for thinking it was ever a good time to send away "Ikalak's money". She then stated that she and the Council had no intentions of paying back any of the money they recieved from families since they considered it a gift. She closed by saying that Emmitt II should look for a new realm if he couldn't understand this.

Emmitt II was surprised and hurt by the Prime Minister's response. He responded saying that he did not want any part of a realm who would treat the generosity of its nobles in such a dishonest manner, and that he hoped the Council would reconsider their stance on this issue.

Trying to Make a Difference

A week passed, and Emmitt II had yet to recieved a response from the Council. He became frustrated, and decided to spend some time reviewing the Laws of Ikalak. What he found saddened him. This was no Republic! The realm was being run like a Tyranny; so many rights of Ikalak's citizen's had been taken away, even to the point that one law allowed punishment of a noble for "criticizing any member or decision of the High Council!"

Emmitt II was tired of waiting for a response. He sent a message to the Prime Ministed requesting a private audience to discuss these infringments on the rights of Ikalak's nobles. Alanna responded by telling him that he was the only noble expressing displeasure with the current Council's laws & rules, that the laws would not be changing any time soon, that she would offer him no compromises, and if he didn't like it, he could either try to get elected to office or leave the realm. She closed by saying if he continued badgering her about such trivial things, she would recommend the Judge punish him for criticizing her.

Emmitt II was fed up. He could not believe an elected official, a servant of the people, would have the gall to speak to a fellow noble this way. He decided he no longer wanted to be part of this farce of a Republic, and notified Alanna that he would finally be taking her up on the offer to leave the realm. She was agreeable to this, and allowed him 3 days to make travel arrangements.

A New Start

During this time, his father's body was returned to Ikalak City, and with it his equipment & journal. When Emmitt II read the last words of his father and discovered that Alanna's foolish orders had resulted in his father's death, he swore an oath to Da Great Goat to bring justice to Ikalak & it's people by removing the current tyrranical regime governing them.

Emmitt II sent out letters, both on his own and through family contacts, to a few rulers asking if he might join their realms. He was excited when his scribe brought him the first response, but he was quite surprised when he learned who it was from. Lord Boswick, the Dictator of Sandalak at the time, had asked for an account of his story and offered Emmitt II a place in his realm if he thought Emmitt II could be trusted. The wheels began to turn in Emmitt II's mind; as a member of Sandalak, he could not only take vengeance on Taselak for killing his father, but also assist in removing the Ikalak High Council from power! The opportunity was perfect, and Emmitt II hurredly scribbled down his story and sent his scribe to deliver it to Boswick. The scribe returned early the next day with Boswick's response: Emmitt II was to be a knight of Sandalak.

On the journey to Sandalak City, Emmitt II was delighted more and more each day with his new realm. Many of the Sandalak nobles sent him friendly welcome messages. Some were apprehensive, but Boswick sent out a message regarding Emmitt II's situation, and soon Emmitt II was considered one of their own; a fellow knight and brother of Sandalak.

Demise & Eulogy

Unfortunately his stay in Sandalak was short-lived. After only a few battles, he was wounded & captured by Ikalak after a battle in Abykal. He spent the next 3 days in Ikalak prison, falling in and out of conciousness. He awoke the morning of the fourth day, his fever finally broken. To his surprise, Sponge Beam, the Judge of Ikalak was standing in his cell, holding a large axe. Sponge told him the High Council had found him guilty of treason and sentenced him to death. Two guards rushed in to hold Emmitt II down, and with a swing of the axe, Emmitt II was no more.

Emmitt II died trying to bring freedom to the oppressed people of Ikalak. No trial was held for him, no testimony taken. The High Council knew he opposed them, and thus created fake charges & crimes to bring up against him to seal his fate. The O'Shea family has sworn vengeance upon them for this murder, and has undertaken a Quest for Vengeance to finish the task Emmitt II started. Emmitt II is greatly missed by his family, but they hope through their quest the people of Ikalak will eventually be freed from their tyrranical oppressors.
