Mentor Uma Zeppos Lessons

This is a page with as sole purpose - to aid and inspire fellow mentors in their mentor tasks.

How Uma interacts with her students

Foremost, Uma doesn't interact with her students on IC basis, expect in the Roleplay lesson. It is very important that you do not interact with your chars students from behind a mask! The Uma mentoring method exists out of OOC interaction. Make clear to your students from the start that you are the first friend in BM that they have made. allow them to make friends, by sticking up for them.

I compare my chars students to the little chicks of a mother duck. Like mother duck you take your pupils under your protective wings, and shelter them from all the game politics going on. It to my disgust that I have to report that many newcomers in the game were banned from new realms they joined after the fall of Oligarch. Sadly their mentors never took up the request I had made through Uma for mentors of Oligarch to contact me, so I could help them and their students get safely out of Oligarch. After all the newcomers have no idea what goes on in game. Many of these newcomers are IRL younglings with no real life experience yet to relate to these events. So they ended up deleting their chars.

Its every Mentors nightmare to see such social disasters happen to your students. That's why I believe that mentors have to have a objective mind in wars like the old Oligarch vs Sirion War. To allow their fellow mentors in Oligarch a safe way out with their students. When a war turns disaster IRL many mentors or Teachers, go trough great length of trouble to insure their young students their safety. Like a mother defending her children. Or a bird species defending her nest.

How I keep order in the chaos

Personally I prefer to copy existing school systems, like the European Bachelor system existing in many European universities. One can use also traditional American University systems. Basically you just take all your lessons that your students are supposed to get and divide these lessons in groups. Dividing the lessons in groups can be done in order of importance, as many students will leave the game, or end up autopaused. But when your realm falls apart or your realm is taken over. Your student will not panic and become a lost little lamb among the wolves.

I gave my students a basic knowledge of the game in 3 days time, giving them each day one lesson. When they receive all lessons I placed them in the list of students ready for graduation. Many students remained in the student list and never graduated. Which can become irritating. I found adding them into the newbie classes - giving them basically back the very first lessons all over again - a very polite way to make them aware of the fact that they had received all lessons they could ever hope to get from me.

A newcomer in the realm who is in need of a mentor always receives a report from me. Then when I am made their mentor I give them that same day or the next day the first lesson.

I keep all my lessons saved on my computer. Also to aid me in swiftly copying and pasting them into BM - I produced markings in the test as a visual aid, to help me realise how much I could get into one BM message. Often I ended up dividing my lessons over several OOC messages. All my lessons were sent OOC.

The Welcome Message

Report from Uma

Hi. I'm a Mentor in this realm.

It is my task to show you the ropes, as they say.

I will instruct you on all these things you can do within this realm, with all your options.

All you need to do is select me as your Mentor. Just a formality that applies to all who are newcomers. It's to keep Mentors from driving students crazy. ;-)

Welcome to Sirion!

About the lessons I provide

The basic knowledge that you will need are shown here as lessons I, II and III. Those 3 lessons are vital for getting started in the game. You can graduate after those first 3 lessons, or you could stick around until your have received all the other lessons as well. Those lessons will be concluded by the Mentor lesson, which serves as the final lesson. Once all of these classes have concluded, you will have the knowledge of a player who has been in the game for, like, 100 days. That's a lot of know-how for a freshmen in BattleMaster. ;-)

Lesson One

Mentor Instructions

As a mentor, you are responsible to teach your students the following lessons:

  • Recruitment and maintenence of units
  • The chain of command - realm hierarchy, general and ruler
  • Basic combat tactics
  • Unit settings

You should attempt to answer any questions they might have about other areas.

Lesson one:

Recruitment and Maintenance of units:

When you recruit a unit you need to be in our Capitol city which is Sirion. You can find this on the map in you travel menu. For a bigger map you can always consult maps in your information menu. Reason for your travel there is so you can put your first lesson to the test.

Each tax day you get a sum of money in the form of Bonds which you cash in a Bank where your bonds get turned into gold coins. You need to be in a City region for that to. In Sirion you can then buy soldiers.

In your Orders options menu you can select the option Recruit a unit. Then you get a window that shows you the list of available soldiers. You can choose between, Archers, Mixed Infantry (basically your swordsmen with bows), Infantry, Cavalry, and Special Forces (Commando's). Each recruitment center is named separately, and comes from different regions. But you can mix soldiers. This will influence the training and equipment quality (shown as Armor/Weapons quality in %). You should not feel forced to buy expensive units. You can always train them to be better. As a youngster in the ranks you might stand to lose soldiers and units allot, but in time you get to loose them lesser and lesser due to experience of your char.

Each time you recruit your able to give them a unique name free of charge. Later you can rename your unit by selecting the option for it in your orders options menu. But while you recruit your to fill in a number that you wish to recruit, but in the box above the number to recruit is the box where you can add the name for your unit.

Note that you need to check that available number of soldiers in the recruitment center corresponds with the number you wish to recruit. Also note that you check first if your able to pay for the recruits you wish to recruit. You can always consult the Hint option at the end of each recruitment center line, to see if your able to pay for the minimum required number of soldiers that you need to recruit, which is 5 men. It also shows how many you can recruit from your gold amount and gives you some healthy advice.

Check that you have your units auto payday set to 7 days in your paperworks so the morals don't drop right away. 7 days is how long you need to last with your gold from each tax day.

In the Information Menu you can check your tax share. Its based in many realms on a points system, but your not to worry about it here Sirion is one of the Richest realms on this island.

Maintenance to your unit is basically simple. It consists of regularly paying them. Training them is time consuming, but when provided with the time you can do this. But note that each training causes moral drops and Equipment damage! This will result to your unit needing repairs and Relaxation fast.

Repairs need to be done in a City. You cant do that anywhere else. You need to be in Sirion for this or in an other city region, like Ashforth or Avamar - some regions that have a smithy can help you repair your units damage to, but in a city you can cash bonds and pay for larger repairs. Moral drops when your unit is on a mission for the realm. Note that in the realm hierarchy you need to ask permission of the general to move back to the capitol to repair damage or cash in bonds and pay your unit.

<<<------------------------------------------------------------>>>

You can not allow your units damage to rise above 70% then your unit can get hurt do to corrupt equipment! +50% Damage is expensive. Its always best to allow damage to be minimal. Cohesion rises with your choice of entertainment for your men. You should try save gold on entertainment, by only spending it on entertainment for your men by a Moral that is real low. Between 40% and 60% I advice the 'Pay for Lots of Entertainment' option - but between 60% and 80% I would suggest Basic Entertainment at low costs. Between 85% and 95% I suggest a simple free 'Rest Troops...' option. Below 30% and your far from Sirion, I suggest you don't worry about it because you wont be able to save them at all! Since your only able to give them the entertainment in the capitol. Between 95% and 100% units often restore themselves.

For maintenance you need Paraphernalia also. In the Buy Paraphernalia option in your Orders options menu you can select to buy lots of goodies.

To protect your Unit's Moral you need from per 25 men 1 banner and per every 30 a cart (which helps moving the wounded and your soldier's equipment which helps with travel time when the going gets though and your with wounded soldiers.) You need healers to who are quite nifty when your char is wounded or when your men are wounded. They save your soldiers. Scouts are important to know what's ahead and to help our general get some Scout reports in time for him to base his orders on. Siege engines you don't need unless the general orders them. They give major lag. The more you have the slower you travel. They just are used to get over high walls.

Scouts you just don't need more then 3. With one you get quite far too. Note that Scouts can run away or get captured.

Each Paraphernalia will demand of your unit an amount of soldiers, like banner 1 soldier, and Cart I think is 1 or 2 (not sure). Since your prestige and honour is still quite low you'll have trouble getting high number of men in your unit. No worries though that passes. In time you'll have high honour and prestige like the rest of us. You gain this in battle, or doing other noble work. As Soldier you'll gain these points by battle. At each battles end you'll get a small battle summary that shows how much honour you gained.

Do note that your only allowed to attack in this realm an hostile realm by moving with the army into battle. The general will tell all the players in one region to move to the next. He will end up telling you to be in a hostile region. The general will give you then instructions on what unit settings you have to give.

Lesson two will contain The chain of command - realm hierarchy, general and ruler... That sort of things ;-)

I suggest for now we try to get our first lesson put in practice? Let me know how it went? Note that It will take a few turns before your in Sirion City!

Lesson Two

Mentor Instructions

As a mentor, you are responsible to teach your students the following lessons:

  • Recruitment and maintenance of units
  • The chain of command - realm hierarchy, general and ruler
  • Basic combat tactics
  • Unit settings

You should attempt to answer any questions they might have about other areas.

Lesson Two:

The Chain of Command - Realm hierarchy, general and ruler:

Sirion is a Republic. It is also affectionately called the United States of Sirion. Our Prime Minister is Doc. Doc is a Real Estate Agent in the Usa, he sells houses. This job leaves him with very little time to answer all his fan-mail on BattleMaster. But if you have a question for Doc, make it out to the entire Council and your bound to get a reply sooner then with Sending it to one Council Member.

Our Prime Minister is devoted to see to the destruction of Oligarch. A Realm that has a bad reputation with all Sirionites. Basically Sirion is not the place to talk about peace with Oligarch.

Our Prime Minister serves as representative of our realm. He is our Commander in Chief. His authority is the highest in the realm, and his orders are above those of other council members.

In Sirion Doc doesn't undermine the authority and respect of his Council, but he will use his authority over them to call them to order if they do wrong by the realm. Doc is one of the most beloved leaders in the Game, but also the most hated by realms hostile to Sirion. He can be compared to President Lincoln of Old America.

Doc will always respect your freedom of opinion and your rights as human been and as player. But he will not hesitate to point out to you your duties. You can get fined for not being Active in the game. Or for Disobeying Orders. His Policy is to have the Judge send you a warning first, and then a Fine! Your always expected to act responsible and social with your realm mates. Cheating gets punished severely! Having multiple Accounts in this Game is against the rules. Thus if your caught with a multiple Account you can get kicked from the realm and reported to Tom, and Tom can Ban you from the game. There are players who turned themselves in with Tom as owners of a multiple account, and offered to delete their multiple account in the game keeping only one. These where the only players with Multis that where pardoned by Tom. The reason why I add this is so you can be aware of this when your witness to a Kick Ban in the game.

Our General is the leader of the Army, he organises all Soldier Activity. If your not of any other social class your expected to take your orders from him. He passes his order out each turn telling you with a bright red message what your expected to do. He will give you the Unit Settings your required to have. In Sirion these settings are Dictated by the General. This to keep you from loosing your unit in battle. Just to synchronise the settings of all troops to the best settings possible. The general is a player who is the best at judging what settings are the best for upcoming battles. With Handow we have not lost yet.

Our Judge is the man with the power to fine and to ban. But he has authority over all the Bureaucrats. His job is to make sure that all our regions are in good shape. If you become region Commander you will have to answer in Sirion to Our Judge Wowure or Hyraltic (two most elected judges) Our Banker has also a say over Region Commanders, a limited say at that. If you change class to Bureaucrat you will have to ask the judge for his approval before doing that. The realm is only allowed a limited number of Bureaucrats. Therefor you need to ask the Judge first for his approval before changing. Preventing that we end up with more Bureaucrats then we can handle.

Our Banker Circle is a fair but firm leader. He is also the only one with a chance at beating Doc in the Ellections. Circle is our banker what means that he is commander over all our Merchants, and the man behind all trade done in Sirion. He also has the responsibility over balancing our food reserves, so all region get fed. On matter of Food stores and sale prices Region Commanders have to obey him. I had once a char serving him as Merchant. It was the biggest game adventure that I had in this Game until now. My Char served as Blockade runner to feed a starving realm. Part of Sirion's charity program to feed starving children in realms condemned to death by the Southern Alliance of old. The so called SA. That SA alliance was a real cruel alliance. Tom ended it by declaring it against game rules. Circle threw at times 200 gold in our merchant's purses to buy food and sell food.

<<<--------------------------------------------------->>>

Our Realm Hierarchy is simple! The President is the Commander in Chief over the whole realm. The General is his Right hand man and in the chain of command he is the officer of Security! To compare it with Star Trek next Generation: Our General equals Lieutenant Worf - Our President equals Jean Luc Picard (and this in more then just ways of rank, he is his equal in Wisdom and leadership also!) - Our Judge equals Diana Troi - our Banker in Rank is equal to Commander Data, but Circle has also the equal in rank and personality to Number Two or Commander William Riker. Our little cast is quite loved in Sirion and hard to compete with in elections as our realm is just NUTS about these chars. ;-)

To Summarize the Hierarchy:

1. Prime Minister Doc
2. General Handow
3. Judge Hyraltic or Wowure (whichever is in office)
4. Banker Circle

I hope you may come to know and love them just as much as we all do.

We got a simple rule in Sirion that says: Enjoy yourself, but never at expenses of an other player!

Enjoy yourself my friend and Student? That will be your test in this lesson! Enjoy yourself, and get to know our council and Realm. Have a chat? For if you're silent they won't have the opportunity to get to know you! Speak out and be recognized as one of us. Enjoy yourself without violating 'Da Rules', and you pass this test?!

Next lesson will be Basic Combat tactics! I will know it when your done with your test. But let me know when your ready for the next lesson so I don't overwhelm you with a large message like this at an inconvenient time for you?

Lesson Three

Mentor Instructions

As a mentor, you are responsible to teach your students the following lessons:

  • Recruitment and maintenance of units
  • The chain of command - realm hierarchy, general and ruler
  • Basic combat tactics
  • Unit settings

You should attempt to answer any questions they might have about other areas.

Lesson 3:

Basic combat tactics and Unit Settings:

In our battles the General always tells you your settings. But this is not done in all realms. Some realms they leave you to pick your own Combat tactics. The best Tactic is always Unity among your units. A well trained unit can last you in the field longer then a bad trained one. Most generals send your units out to their death. Which is only your loss. But in Sirion our army has been structured by the best of generals in BM.

You've got 3 type of settings:

<<<----------------------------------------------------------->>>

Line: There are 4 lines Front, Middle, Back, Rearguard. Fast moving units get always lined up on the rear of the army. In our Sirion you can always find 2 or 3 lines used. This because the Army only consists out of 3 parts Archers, Infantry, and Cavalry. You got other units to. But most are rare to be found in BM. Big realms like Sirion got the most money and are better able to get the best cavalry and Special forces Recruitment Centers. Our troops are lined up based on the type of unit you own. Like Archers now are on Front line.

Behavior: You can set also how your men are to behave. There are 5 types of behavior: Murderous, Aggressive, Normal, Defensive, and Evasive. Its important to know that with some type of behavior settings you can get unwanted effects. Like Murderous, can result in your men attacking their own allies, they don't make a difference between friend or foe. Aggressive, could result in them attacking like madmen, they will most definitely not respect line settings and are at first like in line waiting for the order to attack, then they strike and exterminate. With Normal you get them to act like soldiers, killing what they are told to kill, but not going into heroism. They will stick with the line settings and move in formation. Defensive, will cause your unit to stand their ground and not move at all, they will hold their line. The only time they will move with Defensive is when they run away. Evasive means they will avoid detection from the enemy. Know that this will only work when your unit is 10 men strong or less. With 11 men you stand a chance to be detected. But if you get into Battle you will stand your ground and fight only to get away. You basically will fight a hit and run. Causing severe loss if your fighting in the army. This is a setting used a lot for the Merchants. My char EbionII Junior has used this a lot in the past as Merchant of Sirion. He was Blockade runner, and supplied food to allied realms in the south. The Evasive setting was quite useful, and with 10 men I had enough fighting power to secure the caravans. I suggest when your traveling trough enemy land as merchant, that you always take 10 men units and go on evasive! Also this setting will cause you to be attacked by your allies and friends. This because Aggressive settings kill Evasive settings. Always be on guard for the region your in! Know who it belongs to, its a key of success.

Formation: There are in all armies formations in which your men will take place on the field. There are 4 Formations You can select from. Line, Box, Wedge, And Skirmish. Line, Box, Wedge, and Skirmish say already for themselves how the formation would look. For in case you didn't know how these would look like here is the description. Line means that they form a human wall. This was one of Napoleon's favorites, he even perfected this formation. Box is a line up that forms a square of soldiers who's wall of soldiers is a formation in square. This is used IRL in old days to fend of Cavalry attacks. It was used by Phalanx since Renaissance times. But Alexander the great already used a formation like it but this was vulnerable on its flanks and rear, the modern one isn't. Wedge is a formation that Hannibal used a lot against the Romans. A Wedge beats Line, but is not effective against Box formation. A Wedge is a common used tactic for the Calvary. Calvary beats Archers but is also a great line breaker. Wedges are called this not because of a point like formation, but because of it splitting armies up like that, its called after the stone cutters tool that is used to split huge rocks in quarries. Skirmish is the oldest tactic used. Its called after the oldest soldiers in ancient armies. Like in the Roman Army Skirmishers where used like Scavengers. They where send out to kill of units already severely suffering Severe wounds. In Caesar's Battle with BoduUgnatus of the Nervian tribe, Caesar reported having send in skirmishers to kill the last resistance in the Nervian Capitol, which was raised to the ground. This Formation is a stand in Wich soldiers usually spread out equally to take on the enemy one on one! Romans kept their Skirmishers together and gave them projectiles called Javelins to throw at the enemy. Basically Skirmish stands are a stand in which the soldiers are not standing in a shoulder to shoulder formation, but leave gaps deliberately for the enemy to go trough.

The way you could compare the code here is that it works like Rock Paper and Scissors. Wedge Beats Line - Line Beats Skirmish - Skirmish beats box - Box Beats Wedge! Although you need to use a bit of imagination to ;-), but these formations are a sure thing, based on their military history.

If you got further questions about combat and Tactics, you can always ask. ;-)

Next lesson will be about any subject you wish to have further education in. Your welcome to come to me with all your problems until you feel like your fully educated.

Student F.A.Q.

F.A.Q.

- Whats this Game about?

- BM Is a combat game! But its about creating within a realm social status and stature for your character. Its about creating a character totally not your real self image. But like a actor playing a part in a theatrical play. BM is part Theatre and part Game. So it relies heavy on Teamplay and fairplay. As Tom demanded of the players over and over: Play nicely together! Its about Teamplay, but also about inventing a fictive personality. Most players forget that this is also a part of the game. That's why we have an OOC button. With me you can mix these up when messaging me, because I am your mentor, and your still in the learning process. But also remember that your just human, and entitled to make some mistakes, especially when up late at night writing these RPs or helping each other out. Fairplay and Teamplay! That's what it is all about. And fun of course! ;-)

- What is this war about?

- Sirion used to be an empire, before tom deleted Empires from the Code so Sirion split up in 3 parts. Sirion covered the north of east island once. But since that time many new realms where born, and old East and West Sirion both attacked Sirion to kill her. West Sirion became Avamar after its betrayal. Sirion was once a peace keeper on East Continent. But now its in war with Perdan and oligarch. Oligarch betrayed its ally once. Oligarch dropped relations with them to war and attacked them, while their ally was still in recovery from their shock. They wanted to solve it diplomatically but Oligarch was all over their land. As Ally they used an excuse to get into their land and then kill their troops when they turned enemy. So this war began OOC, but now its pretty much IC. Its a simple rule in Sirion, Oligarch got to go, and its leaders are to be executed. Oligarch betrayed more then one realms trust. Most of these players are innocent. But there are always those you better be aware of. We fight team oligarch for RP reasons. OOC they have a terrible reputation in Sirion and Old Rancagua. But IC the war is about punishing a betrayal and for Oligarchs constant betrayal to friends, allies and realms at peace with them. Perdan is in this because they support Oligarch and believe that Sirion foolishly tries to save the world on their own. They basically consider us in Sirion as Dictators making other realms into puppet states. Most of these realms have poor infrastructure. And currently we are in war with Perdan over their violation of a peace treaty they tried to force on Ibladesh.

- What could I do, or should do?

- Follow your designated Class its commanders orders. Like a good soldier should! ;-) As your now Soldier class you should obey the generals orders! He gives movement orders to the regions where his soldiers are in. If your confused about his orders your always in your right to message him and ask him about them. But remember that the game is not only financially free, its also free in the way that you cant be bossed around all the time! But still you should be respecting your game leaders their orders, but not to an extreme point! You're free always to question their orders or behavior! They can't ban you for it and when they do you should report them. But think before you act, like my mom always used to say to me? ;-) It saved my hide many a time IRL and in Game! =)

- Should I go to fight next?

- The general will get you into battle! That's the whole point of his orders! But your never to go solo on your realm! That's bad for Diplomacy, and its bad for your unit, and your char's social status within the realm!

<<<---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------->>>

F.A.Q.2

- Except from bureaucrats, are you then free to choose whatever class you want, when they become available?

- Yes! By rules of the game you are free to choose any career you want. Its your fun, and your RP, So why should it be anything else? You just need to remember that your char can't return from Hero class, and can even die in game. You can read up on the different chars on the Wiki page or ask me about what I know about your favorite class.

- In terms of having a "good" unit, is there any certain size which is best? Or should one get the biggest possible unit still having gold to training and payment?

- No! It all depends on what your Char is going to be doing. In Battle a good unit can be 30 men strong. That way you can last for a while in Combat. But a good unit for lets say hunting, that can manage a battle or two - that be a 20 men strong unit. For Merchants I advice 10 men strong units as between 1 and 10 men units can evade being spotted in a region by one's enemies. I myself have had many trips like that in enemy territory and got out safe many times. Often with all 10 of my men still unharmed with me. But you need to buy units in terms of functionality and mobility. 20 to 30 men strong units travel fast, fast enough to travel in pace with the army. Most army units are 20 to 30 strong. The only one making a big enough unit is a TO'er, a TL that does the Take Over of Regions. That's the only one who has any use for it. The bigger the unit is the slower it gets. Small more mobile units get to their destination much sooner than the units with more men in them. The thing you need to know is that your realms army depends on a fast mobile strike force to launch a counter attack on the enemy already in a region. This mobility of a unit is to the advantage of the whole realm, but units of 100 men are slow and take a whole day to move from one region to the other. Combat Strength - otherwise referred to as CS - is what counts in battle! The collective CS. Training and payments, it depends on how well you balance your budget. Its like a checkbook at the end of each month you balance that to. Each week you should balance your expenses. A unit purchase can last for a while - and in the mean time you can save up to pay each week for your unit, and train them.

- I am going on Easter holidays on Saturday and 8-9 days. Which is best; to pause my char - or to remain in the realm behind front line or in a front line city (say Avamar)?

- Many people go on holiday and don't need to Pause their chars. I once have been away for a 7 day trip and didn't had to pause. Its better if your only a short while away that you leave your char active and return after a week. But notify always your council, to avoid unnecessary worries or troubles. Its always nice to let people know that IRL matters will prevent you from attending the game for lets say 8 to 9 days. You can sit safe away from the border, because if a enemy launches a surprise attack on our border and your caught in it, some nasty surprises may await you on your return. Pausing your char prevents this, but you also loose your unit and your bonds get send to the realm. Which may a bit of a bother after a while for you. Also know that your account can be paused for a period of 2 months after which your account get automatically deleted. This is best you know of. You can also get autopaused after a long while of inactivity. Like 10 to 14 days... I have no clue of how long you can stay inactive before going into autopause, but 7 days possibly 9 days could be possible as I been inactive once for 7 days without getting autopaused.

- Who is the general?...

- Sir Handow, the Minister of Defense of Sirion, Duke of Avamar, Marshal of the army of Avamar. This is our current General. You can always find him/her in your message list when you hit the message button. Sir Boom Boom is his second in command - just in case something happens and the realm has no general Boom Boom will take on the role of acting commander of the Army until a new General gets appointed.

<<<----------------------------------------------------------------->>>

F.A.Q.3:

- 70 (+156) gold. So I have 70 in my pockets, but how I can get those 156? Going to Sirion? What's the orders or actions I have to do to get those?

- If your in a City Region Like Sirion, Ashforth, or Avamar - you can cash your bonds in a local Bank. You do this by going into your Actions menu, and Select Financial Actions. In Financial Actions your literally in your bank. You'll read your option to cash bonds, and the option to even turn gold in bonds, and send gold to a realm mate or to your family fortune. Note that with family fortune it will upset people when you send gold to your family fortune and then go begging for gold of them. I don't need to tell you how wrong that will look to others, as it looks wrong to you to in my opinion of you. ;-) Basically you can send gold to others to help them or save some left over gold in your family fortune. When you cash your gold into bonds you can do this in these amounts only: 25 gold, 50 gold, 75 gold, 100 gold, or 25+ each time. Your bonds you can cash from any given amount into gold. Not visa versa.

- How big army I should keep at this point? My honour and prestiges are rising, so I could get bigger army, but is it wise?

- Not Always! You see my experience tells me the bigger your army is the more expensive it gets. The Realm has only so much gold to hand you. In the past Slomcha, my other char, had in Sirion orders to join an Punishment Campaign. In that campaign he recruited over a hundred Cavalry in his unit. It cost him almost just as much to maintain them. In that Campaign he was quite slow as spearpoint unit. The battles where good, but in the end he marched home with zero men left. The campaign turned into a rescue mission of our trapped merchants. Our Merchants where threatened by enemy realms, but the whole south turned on us. That is how harsh it got. But we pulled trough, and our merchants got out save and the campaign became a modest success. In the real world you don't send in an elephant to squash a bug! Each unit in your enemies army is equal or almost equal to your own numbers. One going over a 100 is paying for it out of his or her own pockets. 20 to 30 men units are good for starters and even advanced players. 50 to 60 men units are good as advanced troops, but when they move around they are not so mobile as they start to get more trouble along the road then others. We can find with 20 to 30 men units our way round road blocks in one hour! 50 to 60 men strong units can not get around it. Just think of your unit as an SAS unit, or a Navy SEAL unit. They are small but they are extreme mobile, and are send in as the first into battle. They hold the beaches for 72 hours straight while the rest of the troops get ready to land. That's how your unit is, a unit that hold the ground. Your storm the enemy with the other units cripple it, and the bigger unit march in like elephants to finish them off.

- Is it important to train the unit, or should I buy better troops?

- This is up to you. But Training them can have its charm, and battle itself is a training for your unit also. Just make sure your settings are synchronized with that of your fellow TL's. This gives you a chance to safe your unit from to much harm. The general will always give you your settings again if you forgot them. But in your Paperworks your unit settings will remain unless you changed them, or your unit has got wiped out.

- Just wondering how long after I've started does it take till I can change my class?

- It should become Available in a matter of days.

- Which is most cost effective? To repair equipment before hiring new recruits or after? Or does it even matter?

- The answer is simple! Apply the Circle trick to save costs! The Trick is a game friendly one - named for Brains Char Circle, it constitutes a simple benefit in the game code that was first noticed by Brain (from there it being named for his Char). The Circle trick is to recruit first and then pay for your repairs as it lowers repair costs considerably. Of course it doesn't matter, if your char is rich enough to ignore the benefits of this trick! ;-)

F.A.Q.4:

- Prestige... How do I get this up by chance?

- Well Prestige comes every so often depending on how many honour points you collected. You could say that by every so many honour points you receive a prestige point. This is not a certainty. You get prestige real difficult. But I found that serving the realm faithfully gets you in every battle of the realm a prestige point. In a month you wont even notice it anymore. ;-) Prestige you simple get every time your in a battle. The battle has to be no more then a 3 to 1 chance for the enemy or you, or a 50/50 chance, before prestige points get collected. At least that's what I noticed. The more the outcome of a battle is a certainty, the less the chance to get prestige. I used to think it depended on your chars actions in combat, but after a few hundred battles you notice it doesn't make a difference. like in real life, where stories count for more then actual facts; you get no honour or prestige from truth but from popularity with your fan club at home.
