Melodia-Shadovar Treaty
The following is the treaty signed between Consul Quintus Scarlett and Dictator Edelstein Greneburie.
Treaty for the ceding of Port Raviel to Shadovar
The regions of Port Raviel and Raviel are hereby granted to the realm of Shadovar, to be held under specific conditions and with tribute due to the Republic of Melodia as set out below. This treaty acknowledges the general framework of this agreement as a boon granted to Shadovar by the Republic of Melodia in exchange for goods, goodwill, and services.
Section I - General requirements and conditions
- The realm of Shadovar will enter into a permanent alliance with the Republic of Melodia. This alliance shall compel Shadovar to provide military support to the best of its ability in the event that Melodia is attacked. It shall not automatically compel Shadovar to assist Melodia in offensive engagements, where 'offensive engagement' is defined as assaulting a region that does not fall within Melodia's claimed territories (* below)
- The Republic of Melodia shall likewise be compelled to defend the realm of Shadovar in the event that Shadovar is, in the opinion of the Melodian Parliament, attacked for unjust or unprovoked reasons.
- In the event that either a) Shadovar commits acts of war or, in the estimation of the Melodian Parliament, otherwise brings war upon itself through its own actions or b) Suffers sufficient damage to the integrity of its government such that those ruling the lands of Nebel and Raviel cannot rightly said to be the same sovereign realm as the Shadovar that signs this treaty, this treaty is abrogated and the territory shall be returned to the Republic of Melodia immediately.
- Shadovar shall never provide shelter, succor, or support of any kind to Albert de Blanc, Drystan Bellator, or Iodem Ezrin.
Section II - Tribute
- When the city of Port Raviel reaches approximately seventy-five percent of its maximum production, a sum of ten percent of the gold taxed from Port Raviel shall be sent, in perpetuity, to the Republic of Melodia. This sum shall be taken from the weekly income but sent no more infrequently than once a month.
- Any and all surplus food production of the entire realm of Shadovar shall be sold exclusively to the Republic of Melodia at a cost of 10 gold per 100 bushels.
- The treasurer of Shadovar will provide a monthly summary of gold and food sent to Melodia, including the most recent tax report from the Duchy of Port Raviel.
- Shadovar will designate a trader to purchase food from lands east of Port Raviel upon the request of the Republic of Melodia. These purchases shall be paid for in full by the Republic (taken out of the ten percent tribute). In the event that Shadovar does not have any traders, it is not subject to this clause.
- Claimed territories: For the purposes of this treaty, Melodia's claims shall extend North to Aspar in the West and Mistight in the East, and South to Agl in the East and Orphealis to the West. Even if any part of those claims are ceded to another realm or colony, any engagements between Melodia and those realms shall be considered 'defensive' and Shadovar shall be required to assist.
