Roleplay from Kaylan McDowell

Crumpled balls of parchment lay on the ground surrounding her as Kaylan held her hand poised over an undamaged sheet. Sitting in the corner of her tent she tried making herself as small as possible, seeking a bit of comfort. No matter how hard she tried, nothing seemed to help.

One single word was scrawled at the top, Sir the beginning of a name barely begun as the tip lay an inch above it. She had been sitting there for a good half hour, contemplating what to write. Deceiving and misleading people had been easy in the past, but now it just made her miserable. A drop of ink had fallen staining the parchment she finally noticed it and sighed. Grabbing it, she scrunched it and threw it to the ground where it joined the others.

What was the point anyway? It wasn’t like she could do anything about her situation and even if she asked no one could save her even if they tried. It was the curse of being who she was, her mother’s daughter. It was the same tired game of escape and evade she had been playing since she was old enough to take care of herself. The only difference was that this time she was alone… and the weight of loneliness was beginning to take its toll.

She needed to clear her head, so many things had happened since she arrived, and she didn’t know what to do. Maybe a little air would help. Rising from the ground, she grabbed a heavy hooded cloak and tied it around her neck. Lifting the hood to conceal her head of red hair, she walked out into the night.

Roleplay from Aewyn Onyxien

Aewyn tilted her head back in the water gazing up at the moon, she wondered if Fiona was hurt but more importantly if she was still alive. She may have been just held captive but she knew how her cousin thought and that worried her to death. As she started to come out of the water to find warmth near the fire she had made she noticed a woman standing there waiting for her. She tried to focus on the face but her cloak hid her features well. The moment was awkward, but Aewyn reached down to her thick cloth and wrapped it around her curvaceous body. Throwing her hood back the woman approached close enough for the firelight to reveal her face.

“Fiona!” She walked towards her but stopped after a couple steps At her exclamation the woman frowned with a shake of her head. “You must be mistaking me for someone else, Kaylan McDowell” she introduced herself.

Aewyn stood in complete shock, the resemblance was so stunning she was at a lost for words, it wasn’t Fiona but she was from the Fontan Rangers and probably here to discuss matters, she turned to the rock where she left her clothes.

“The water is the best under the moonlight don’t you find” Aewyn started small talk but Kaylan remained silent.

“What can I do for you?” she questioned Kaylan as she leaned over to grab the sheath and wrapped it around her thigh. “I wanted to…” but her attention was drawn away to Aewyn’s pendant. “I am sorry, let me get a little bit more presentable” she continued to gather her armor. Speechless Kaylan continued to examine the necklace and started breathing a bit more rapidly while she approached Aewyn.

“That necklace… wh.. where did you get that from?” she asked Aewyn completely hypnotized, but before she could get a closer look Aewyn grabbed the pendant and held it in her hand.

“It’s a family heirloom, but I’m sure you didn’t come here to talk about a pendant” she grinned back at her.

“Th… that’s… my …” Kaylan tried to find words, but Aewyn interrupted her.

“Shhh…” she motioned her to be silent as she reached to her thigh. Out of nowhere a man dressed in black threw his arm around Kaylan’s throat and held a blade to her side. With quickness Kaylan reached for her short sword but he hit her hand with a sharp blow with the hilt of his blade, kicking it away from the struggle.

“Not this time,” he growled, “you’re coming with me… Someone is expecting you” he took a breath of her hair and laughed burying his face in her neck. She let out a small whimper and her eyes grew wider in Aewyn’s direction, begging for help. “Such a sweet fragrance my lord will be happy to have finally found you” he tried to drag her away.

Aewyn’s hand rested on her dagger ready to throw but the situation was too delicate for a quick reaction and she didn’t want to hurt her. She continued to study the man’s move. Kaylan tried to free herself from his grasp and with one motion threw herself back into his chest trying to throw him down but he dug his heels firmly into the ground. The attempt gave Aewyn a clear opening. Without hesitation she threw her dagger stabbing him in the back underneath his left shoulder blade causing him to let go of Kaylan who brought up her sword and with one blow slit his throat, bringing him to his knees.

“What was that?” Aewyn got closer making sure she wasn’t injured.

Kaylan knelt down and pulled the cowl from his face to reveal an older man, neatly shaven, she could tell he was from an older generation of assassins by looking at the colors of the crest that was sewn onto his jerkin.

“Haunting nightmare” she swallowed and Aewyn looked up at Kaylan. “Well your nightmare just about got you killed,” Aewyn raised her brow as she kicked the man over to pull her stiletto out of his back.

Kaylan’s heart hammered in her chest and she gave a grateful look in the woman’s direction. Rubbing her hand over her throat she swallowed against the pain. She had been close before but never that close. “Thank you…” she trailed off and the woman offered her name. “Aewyn Onyxien.”

Upon hearing the name recognition filled her eyes and Kaylen gave a sharp nod. Without skipping a beat, her eyes narrowed and returned to the pendant on the chain around her neck. “Family heirloom?” she asked making sure she heard correctly and Aewyn replied with a nod. “The rose and the vines, that’s my mother’s...” she thought out loud.

“That means…” Kaylan smiled and her eyes brightened. “It’s true, I have a sister," she whispered softly.

It was Aewyn’s turn, and her mouth dropped open with shock. When she was able to regain her stature, she tried to speak but a small croak came forth instead.

“Everyone believed you were dead, but mother never gave up hope. It drove her mad with insanity.” Her eyes lowered with sadness and she took a deep breath. “I made a promise. To make every effort in finding you, no matter what anyone said. She was right,” there was a small gleam of pride in her blue eyes. “She will be so happy, we don’t have much time, she is dying…”
